I love the River Cottage series and thought this would be a good book to buy. It's a lovely read. There's a huge amount of information in it and I have learnt a lot through using it. There are some great photos and I like the different projects aimed at teaching children about food and cooking, such as kneading dough and making bread, and preparing and cooking fish. My daughters are too young to use this book with me at the moment so I have only used it by myself, but I am looking forward to helping them learn about cooking with it as they get older.

This is a lovely book to sit down and flick through on a Sunday afternoon with the kids. If you want a very general book with reliable and basic recipes covering a little bit of baking, a little roasting, a little about making bread, a bit about jam etc then this is the book for you. It is fairly lifestyle based and will appeal to the yummy mummy in you.

A little on the basic side if you are a keen cook, but if you want to learn how to use various key store-cupboard ingredients, and find out why various items are prepared in certain ways, this is a useful combination of factbook & recipe book. Lots of nice, simple, favourite family recipes like drop scones. Would be great to use with older children & young teens to get them started in the kitchen.
