"Great adventure books with a King Arthur theme…"
I loved these books as a child and recently bought myself the box set as had lost a couple over time.
The second of the series is my favourite but there are five books overall.
The first, Over Sea, Under Stone is set in Cornwall and has three young siblings, Simon, Jane and Barney, go to stay with a mysterious relative. They embark on a search for a grail after finding an old treasure map but find themselves working against a set of sinister adults who work for the Dark.
The second introduces us to Will Stanton, whose eleventh birthday brings a magical awakening as he discovers he is a key player in the fight against the Dark. It's a great Christmasy read.
The following books see the Drew children and Will meet and work together against the Dark.
I can't wait to read these to my son when he is older.Read moreLess
I loved these books as a child (there are five of them, starting with 'Over Sea, Under Stone'), and have been very happy to discover that my boys (10 and 8) really enjoy them too - although they're a bit too difficult for the 8yo (and I remember being about 11 when I read them myself).
The series is a mystical, slightly po-faced account of the struggle of the Light against Dark Forces - with some seriously scary bits thrown in. Sort of Harry Potter, but without many jokes and with a wider vocabulary. But a great story, and The Dark Is Rising itself is a great one to read at Christmas.Read moreLess
