This is one of my DD's favourite ever books. The idea that you can take off in your bed every night and travel to faraway magical places is perfect for children before they go to sleep. Georgie needs a new bed and his Granny buys him one from a junk shop. The initial harsh illustrations give way to a soft surreal glow as he travels to different landscapes, ranging from cities and jungles to riding on dolphins. When the bed is replaced for a new model one day while Georgie is out, he goes on a mission to rescue it from the dump before flying off again into the sky. The pictures are beautiful and, as usual with Burningham, the story is open to interpretation whilst celebrating the power of the imagination.Read moreLess
