I've read many books to my 2 kids over the years and this has to be in the top 5. We have the original which has different illustrations from your picture - they are of their time and absolutely fabulous.Read moreLess
"A classic children's book!…"
Have recently had this out of the library for my DS (3.7yo), who thinks it's marvellous- as do I. It is a magically imaginative story, which provokes more questions...
"why did the birds take the sandwich"?
"Did they like it"...?!
Really a great read, which all children should be treated to!Read moreLess
Another British classic, full of charm, great illustrations and a tale which our children love.Read moreLess

So lovely! First published in 1974, this is an old classic that I'd never discovered before. The story is easy to understand, the illustrations are full of detail and the text rhymes in a gentle and rhythmic way. Slightly infuriating that the female characters do the cooking and the males do the hard graft, but I won't let that get in the way of this wonderful book.Read moreLess

Bored of twee animal stories??
Brilliant book, my 2.5 year old & 4.5 year old both love it, very original, rhyming text, broad vocabulary. Kids think the story is very funny, detailed illustrations with new things they pick up each time. My 2 year old goes around chanting quotes from it. A bit like the humorous verse in Room on Broom etc but with 1970's feel.
I never get bored of reading it!Read moreLess
