"I know some people adore this book, and it even…"
24-Jul-2008
I know some people adore this book, and it even won some prizes, but I didn't like it at all and nor did my boys. I think I just find the whole setting implausible, nay impossible, unimaginable and therefore am not able to believe in and care about the characters.
The first line of the book is:
"It was a dark, blustery afternoon in spring, and the city of London was chasing a small mining town across the dried-out bed of the old North Sea."
Take my advice and don't read on. It really does say what you think it says, and it doesn't improve!Read moreLessMumsnetter roisin

"My two sons (8 and 10) loved this so much…"
21-Aug-2007
My two sons (8 and 10) loved this so much I had to read it myself. It is the first in a series of 4 books, so great for those children who read and read. It is a fantastic tale set in the future, with interesting characters on one exciting adventure after another, I just couldn't put it down. These books will easily appeal to girls and boys alike who love stories with outstanding imagination.
