"Well loved family favourite…"

Goodnight Poppy Cat has proven to be a firm family favourite spanning three children and countless bedtimes. Lovely bright pictures, catchy text and great textures make happy babies at bedtime. All of my kids have particularly liked sticking their fingers in the bubbles!

Lovely rhyming book for little ones, with bright pictures to grab their attention. Plus it's not so long that they start losing interest.

This book is fantastic. My 19 month-old baby has been addicted to it (every bedtime) for many weeks now. There are lots of touchy feely bits and the story is simple and sweet.

Free book (for us anyway) from Bookstart.
A bit disappointing; there's not really much to this book, either in terms of story or pictures.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

Ten out of ten! My youngest is obsessed with this book. She has to cuddle bear and kiss poppycat every night and about 20 times in the day.

Comments from other Mumsnetters:
"This was such a hit with our daughter we have since bought most of the other books by this author. I can't honestly say whether it is the bright colours or the extra touchy feely bits on each page but they really seem to hold her attention more than any of the other books we have which are aimed at the same age group". "It's perfect for little hands. The chunky cardboard pages are easy to turn. The sticky chocolate page was a particular favourite, but my daughter also loves the twinkling stars and the teddy's furry tummy"Read moreLessMumsnetter RachelMumsnet

"I bought Goodnight Poppy Cat! for my daughters first birthday…"
25-Jul-2008
I bought Goodnight Poppy Cat! for my daughters first birthday in June and suddenly it has became her favourite book.
It is a board book but has lots of things for my daughter to touch and feel, helping her to learn about different contrasting textures and giving her something a little more interesting than just smooth board pages.
It's bedtime for Poppy Cat and this is the theme for the book. She cuddles her teddy and looks at the stars, has a bubble bath and snuggles up with her soft quilt. All of these things are textured so my daughter will sit and stroke the little teddy bear and try to squish the bouncy bubbles in Poppy Cats bath. Her favourite is the tiny book that really opens and closes, we'll get past this page and she'll suddenly remember and frantically go back to it to have another play with the book.
She also loves to touch the shiny material that has been used to make the stars and she will quite deliberately touch the shiny star and then move her finger to the duller finish of the page. It's little movements like this that shows me Goodnight Poppy Cat! is definitely helping her to make sense of the world around her.
The few words in the book are written to form a lovely rhyme that is perfect for a gentle bedtime story for my daughter and she'll snuggle on my lap while I read all of the text to her, pausing so she can make use of the touchy feely aspect of the book.
The colours used in this book are bright and colourful which means my daughters attention is held for much longer than it would have been if more pastel and traditional bedtime colours had been used. She beams whenever she sees Poppy Cat on the page and she is such a gentle and sweet looking animal that I can definitely see why she would appeal to babies and toddlers. The illustrations are simply drawn and I am grateful for this because young children can associate more with childlike drawings than if the illustrator were going for an artwork prize, a good example of this is a book I bought my daughter at the same time which is exquisitely drawn but ultimately does not hold her attention at all.
There are twelve pages in Goodnight Poppy Cat! and I think this is the perfect length for a book aimed at young babies and children, any longer and they will get bored while shorter books tend to get overlooked when my daughter is sorting through her toybox possibly because she has realised that these result in a shorter bedtime story! Reasonably priced at aboutRead moreLessMumsnetter iamjoy

My dd adored this book from about 6 months old and still loves it now at 3. The story is a great settler for bed-time.
