"I have 4 children between 4 and 9, and am…"
03-Apr-2008
I have 4 children between 4 and 9, and am always on the look out for good books. I wanted to share this one with other mumsnetters. I only bought it at the weekend and we've already read it twice. It's about a little girl who has a very bad friend, who comes down a wormhole from another planet.
My boys loved it because it gave them lots of ideas for annoying their sisters, and the girls because they identified with Felicity Frobisher. And I enjoyed it even though I'm 41! - especially all the very silly names, like Miss Sprint the PE teacher and Mr Floggitt the headteacher and Brian Nylon and Kerry Gold. The illustrations are great, like the one of little Felicity being hugged half to death after the Pan-Galactic Speaking Dictionary gives her the most marvellous French accent (normally, she has the worst at French in her class, something I can identify with!).
I already know of Marcus Chown as a science writer so I was intrigued to find out whether he could write for kids. The story is fantastic and lots of fun and we all learnt something about space along the way too.Read moreLessMumsnetter pearlygirly
