"My six year old son loved this whole series and…"
My six year old son loved this whole series and they elevated him from picture books to chapter books (along with Flat Stanley). Although I felt physically sick reading one of the books - they're pretty gross at times, of course I can see why he loved them so much. They are funny, there's flip books within and there's a superhero in big underpants. My son also became obsessed with creating his own cartoons after reading this. Great because there's so many in the series.Read moreLess

Its hideous to read, but its a huge hit with little boys! Its got pants, aliens, jokes, poo, robots, bad teachers and naughty pupils. A recipe for success! And they love the cartoon parts too.Read moreLess
"This was the book that gave my 7 year old…"
This was the book that gave my 7 year old son the confidence to tackle chapter books by himself. A mixture of comic strip and prose narrative, these books combine all the traditional attributes of a super hero with glorious anarchic fun. Some of the humour is surprisingly sophisticated (my son pointed out the pun in the teacher's name - Miss Ribble - for example), but much of it is unashamedly lavatorial...and if you can't indulge a taste for fart jokes when you're seven, when can you?! These books are a great stepping stone for kids who perhaps need a confidence boost - my lad has now happily tackled other, more traditional novels on his own, and has to be forced to put books down at bedtime. Some parents may be put off by the deliberate spelling mistakes in the comic strip sections - but it's one of those things you'll need to talk to your child about. My son enjoys finding the mistakes, and understands that they're there because the comics are written by children who "are not very worried about the spelling". These books would probably be suitable for reluctant readers from age seven right through primary school. A great way to convince boys of the joys of reading.Read moreLess
