A classic amongst children's fantasy, the story is set in Cheshire with real places that are identifiable.
Colin and Susan go to stay with their mother's old nanny and her husband on their farm. There, they encounter shape shifters, a wizard, elves, dwarves and other characters not of this world.
Susan is the keeper of the stone 'firefrost' which keeps the knights in the cave 'Fundindelve' sleeping until the day comes to fight the evil one, Nastrond. In the meantime, there are many that wish to take the firefrost themself and wield it's magic for their own gain. The story follows Susan and Colin's adventures to keep the stone safe and when it is taken, to take it back and get it to Cadellin Silverbrow before they run out of time.
Heavily influenced by Norse, Irish, Manx, and Arthurian mythology this story was written over 50 years ago and is still loved by older children. If you like the Hobbit, then this is definitely for you.
