This book was ok - nice pictures, and an amusing premise, but my 2 and 4 year olds didn't really get the twist in the tale, so remained stony faced throughout reading it. As an adult, I liked the funny ending, but it wasn't aimed at me!Read moreLess
"Fun illustrations, grim, but different!…"
I have an almost 2 year old and 3.5 year old. The book went over the head of my two year old, other than he enjoyed pointing out the pictures of the cakes. My 3 year old daughter was interested in the book and there were things to point out in the illustrations and discuss, however, the ending was totally missed by her and she was perplexed as to what happened, especially as we never see babysitter, so story requires more imagination to put pieces together. That said, she loved the story and asked for repeat readings. I have to say that the illustrations were brilliant and well-observed, worthy of a feature length cartoon.Read moreLess
"Bright, colourful and engaging…"
From start to finish, my son was smiling and laughing, couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. Colours and pictures were clear and good for engaging conversation about what was happening.Read moreLess

"DS (5) didn't "get it" to start with…"
DS (5) loved the look of this book and was engaged by the first few pages, particularly the funny food. As we got to the last couple of pages, it was clear that he had no idea what was going on and it took a bit of prompting e.g. "what do you think happened to the babysitter?" before it dawned on him and a smile slowly crept on to his face. So, we liked it but a bit of explanation was needed and I thought a more sensitive child might have been a little perturbed by the idea.Read moreLess
"colourful fun with a hint of wickedness…"
All good young children's read aloud books should have the anticipation of a great ending, and words the child can repeat with a sense of being part of the stories secrets - this has both. The end may be slightly worrying for under 4's and adults but the anarchic 5-8's would love it. Yum!Read moreLess
