"I love this highchair, I did a lot of research"
13-Oct-2011
I love this highchair, I did a lot of research before hand and it paid off. My son had much better posture than a friend of the same age I think because if it. I have now had it over two years, I have bought replacement cusions but now rarely use them. Only downside I would say is the cleaning. The food tends to get stuck in the screws. It doesnt fold but is like a part of my furniture and doesnt look out of place.

"I have recently bought this after extensive highchair research and"
09-Sep-2011
I have recently bought this after extensive highchair research and trying a few out and have to say that I am not at all disappointed! I am SO pleased with this chair. I was keen to have a wooden chair, as I don't like the look and feel of the plastic ones and they certainly have far more nooks and crannies for food to get stuck in than this one does in my opionion. At the moment, we live in a small flat, so space was a big issue. I had quite an extensive criteria for my highchair: it had to be height adjustable, grow with the child (so not have one of those silly plastic nodules between their legs that can't be moved so they grow out of it really quickly and you need to buy another!), preferably last them as long as possible, have a removable tray, have a removable plastic tray cover, have the ability to put them in straight away, without having to put them down to remove the tray or something first, have washable covers, be comfortable for the child, fold up and be wooden. If you've looked at many wooden chairs, you will have noticed that most do one or two of the above list, but not all. Of all these things, the only thing it can't do is fold. However, when it arrived and I had it assembled (pretty easy btw - did it in less than an hour and had it ready for DS's lunch) I was amazed to see how small it was! It takes up the teeniest corner of our living room and actually looks very nice! Certainly not a monstrosity that many of the plastic ones are. On top of all that, it is light and very easy carry if you can't keep it at a table like us - the hole in the back of the seat is a perfect handle!
Yes, it is expensive, but I bit the bullet and made my first big purchase from ebay and ended up paying over £200 less than the RRP!
Definitely highly recommended!!!Read moreLessMumsnetter pipsicles

"I love this chair, so much so I have two;"
30-Aug-2011
I love this chair, so much so I have two; one for each of my kids.
Best bits; sits at table at correct height, grows with the child (3.5 year old still using), tray great in the early days (although you need the tray protector!), easy to change settings, small area taken up with the chair (it become part of the furniture of the kitchen, isn't unsightly!).
Not so good bits; screw holes get full of grime on the foot rest (grim!), my second child is prone to climbing out of it so needs to be strapped in.
I love the fact that my children sit comfortably at the table at the right height. It makes doing craft things with my older child easier as she can properly see and use her arms without kneeling up.Read moreLessMumsnetter dukey

Mumsnetters' comments: Users loved this "stylish", "flexible" chair. It's "comfy" and "secure" and "although the removable tray isn't the easiest to clean if not done straight after eating, it stores away neatly at the back of the chair" and "the padded seats are simple to remove and dry in about 15 minutes in the tumble drier!" It doesn't fold away, but is "very compact" and can be used as a normal chair later on, plus "when something looks this good you don't mind it cluttering the kitchen". It's "not cheap" but "should last forever". Overall "highly recommended".

"I think it's absolutely fabulous! Seriously. If a tight fit"
12-Jul-2010
I think it's absolutely fabulous! Seriously.
If a tight fit around your child, it works great, as you don't need a harness. The foot support is fully adjustable too, so you can make sure your litle one if comfortable.
The cushions are very good quality actually. We bought a set of these with the chair and I've washed it at least 50 times now at 40degrees on easy-care cycle with reduced speed and it's not showing ANY signs of wear so far :).
I understand where the other reviewer is coming from re: the hard to clean crevices where food gets stuck. However, I've never had a problem cleaning these - if it's wet food, just don't let it dry out and wipe with a paper towel; the dry crumbs are easy to get out with a wet paper towel or you can just vaccuum them out when you do the floors.
The tray is brilliant and ours has NEVER come off and it's absolutely impossible for my son to get it off (he's 15 months). If he really yanks on it, it moves a tiny bit up/down, but I'm positive it would never actually come off the chair!
THe plastic cover for the tray is worth getting, as it's so easy to just pop it off and wash with the rest of the dishes.
Overall, I think the design is very good and my DS is very comfortable staying in it. The added bonus is it takes up a lot less space than plastic chairs and can even be 'hung' on the table making it easier to clean the floor underneath.Read moreLessMumsnetter elk4baby

"i'm not really impressed with this high chair, we bought"
28-May-2010
i'm not really impressed with this high chair, we bought it intsead of a plastic one as we thought it would last a couple of kids, could be used for longer and because it had a front tray unlike the trip trap chair. the whole chair gets quite wonky and screws have vanished from it, the tray is pretty useless, it doesnt fit securely so a baby can remove it which could cause injury if they're yanking at it, ours had red cushions (it was an ebay buy) which aren't very nice and the inners get all bunched up in the wash, the wood on the step is very worn, but the worst thing about it is all the annoying holes and gaps and crevices that there are for food to get stuck in.
i think it is a really bad design that hasnt worked out that there will be ridiculous amounts of food chucked about when a child is using it, and there are loads of places that bits get stuck, especially in the gap where the step attaches, but also most of these places are impossible to clean properly.
im thinking of getting rid of mine sharpish and maybe getting another trip trap and pushing it up to the table to make up for the lack of a tray...Read moreLessMumsnetter bokki

15-Apr-2010
This high chair, although a little pricey, is worth every penny. It is so easy to adjust that it fits a tiny 6 month old and great for older kids too. I'm now using it with my second child. The fit with the tray is so snug you don't really need an additional harness. The fact the tray cover is removable makes it easier to clean and you can also remove the entire tray to put them up to the table.
It looks great, fits in with our decor well and is much safer than the Stokke Tripp Trapp. My DS1 could kick his egs and tip the stokke backwards, but could not do that with the SvanRead moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

"This is a fabulous chair! I bought it after reading"
17-Mar-2010
This is a fabulous chair! I bought it after reading reviews on here and looking at loads of them at Kiddicare Warhouse in Peterborough. It is expensive, but well worth it. Every last detail has been thought of:
Lightweight and easy to move around
Tray table with plastic cover for easy wiping, and removable for meals at the table when older
Looks good rather than a plastic monstrosity
Last for years of growth - if you have a small toddler, they can still sit at the main dining table for meals, yet fits brilliantly for 6 month old.
The only downside is that the seats are not washable. They are only filled with sponge though, so I have just handwashed mine and squeezed gently/ left on the radiator to dry out. Seem to be fine!
All in all, expensive but worth it.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

"Tried lots of high chairs before buying this one as"
05-Jul-2009
Tried lots of high chairs before buying this one as it was the only one with a wrap around tray table. The lack of gap between tray and child meant that not much food was dropped into my daughter's lap. Now that she is bigger having a removable tray is great as we bring the high chair up to the table. The really high back is a good feature for a smaller baby with not as good head control.

Stylish, easy to use, comfy, strong, good quality.
A few crevices to hide things in but overall still a great purchase.

"Fantastic. Really adjustable so my toddler is comfy. Looks funky,"
02-Sep-2007
Fantastic. Really adjustable so my toddler is comfy. Looks funky, everyone comments on it and it doesn't look out of place in my dining room. Easy to clean - has withstood painting, water play, baking, icing and mealtimes with a 2 year old. My 2 year old wanted to sit in a grown up chair but I didn't feel he was old enough, this is the perfect compromise. I wish I'd splashed out earlier instead of wasting my money on an ugle, clumpy M&P dondolino.

24-Aug-2007
Svan highchair design is the most stylish and modern of all wooden high chair. A highchair with credibility; sturdy yet adjustable, lighweight yet stable providing comfort both for you and baby.
The tray is detachable and the seat cushion is washable for your convenience.
Although it is on the pricey side, its worth the price as this highchair can easily be converted into an ordinary wooden chair years later.Read moreLessMumsnetter aria21

12-Jul-2007
I love this highchair! It is one of the very few I could find that could either be pushed up to the table so we can eat as a family, or had the option of using a tray with it in case this is preferable at any time. It fitted my daughter snugly from aged 6 months, and she is secure at all times in the seat. Having used other highchairs on holidays, this is by far my favourite. The only downside is that the cushions are fabric rather than wipe clean, but they wash really easily and dry in no time. Would recommend this highchair, despite its price!

Stylish, compact and feels good to put our babies into.
As we have twins we were worried that our entire kitchen would be taken over by plastic monstrocities but two of these chairs fit comfortably, look elegant and well worth the higher cost.
added factors included the detachable tray (easy to clean and the chair can fit right up to a table) and the safety bar (we were worried about having to fiddle with safety harnesses)Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

I love the Svan chair. My daughter loves her 'big girl' chair.
It's very very comfy and very very Scandinavian touch stylish. Just the type of chair that blends in with your adult furniture. It comes in light beech and dark cherry beech?, so you can pick the one that goes with your furniture.
As bubba grows, her seat and footrest can be adjusted very easily and it's really easy to put together initially too. Also, you can chuck the infant kit when bubba is old enough to climb up and down, and it's the perfect height for bubba to eat at the table like a BIG girl with the family.
However, it's not a foldaway and keep type of high chair, so definitely not for a kitchen in need of space.
Costwise, a bit on the high side but worth every bit of investment. Just think, just 1 high chair can last your 6 month old bubby until 4, possibly 5 or 6 years old? Many regular baby high chairs retail from 40-120 quids. These aren't even adjustable, and those at the low end aren't even comfy.
I would say, if you've got the dosh, go for Svan! It's an investment you won't regret!Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

A fantastic chair! It looks really stylish and my son looks very comfortable sitting in it, as it can be perfectly adjusted to fit him. Very adaptable as the tray can be removed (it clips on the back of the chair) so he can sit up at the table, and later on it will turn into an adult chair. The cushions are machine washable, but are easily wipeable with a damp cloth. Expensive, but well worth it! It far surpasses any other high chair he has sat in, at restaurants etc.

I've only had it for a day but my 6mo daughter loves it. She's a small baby but sits comfortably upright and is securely in place within easy reach of the (removable) tray. It is a beautiful peice of furniture too, and a welcome addition to our dining room. There is no need to keep it hidden and it actually doesn't take up that much room unlike other highchairs I've seen. Pricey - but will last for years to come.

This goodlooking highchair fits well with the rest of our furniture, and more importantly, it's comfortable and safe. Our son happily sits in it for ages, playing. Gripes are: the full range of wood colours isn't available in the UK, neither is the removable dishwasher-safe tray cover (you can get that from the US) and you need to buy a harness separately. But apart from those niggles, we love it.
