"The best breast pump ever! Affordable, hospital grade, closed system…"
I started pumping soon after I had my little one to help my milk supply. I used pumps from 2 different brands that were alright, I preferred one over the other. Then I came across the calypso. I wasn't sure about it at first because it was a different experience to my previous pumps.
But once I really started using it, I found it to be quicker and easier to wash, assembly, store and sterilise. The instruction manual is also straight to the point and the diagrams and guide are very simple to follow. This is unlike previous pumps I've used with bulk-ish manuals that took a while to get my head around.
There's no denying its stamina. I've been using it for about 3 months now. To start with, I used it a lot everyday, for about 2.5 to 5 hours - in the wee hours of the morning, late at night before and after my child's dream feed and during the day as often as I could pump. As my supply improved and my body got used to it, I soon started pumping more milk in less time! My supply is now a lot better (6 months down the line) and I now use it less often, but still daily.
I find the pump to be quieter than other pumps I've used, and its sound is also more bearable; the sound of one of my previous pumps was so irritating!
Unlike my previous pumps, it has only 4 components that needs washing and sterilising - this is vital / time saving when you pump as often as I used to pump.
To store it, I just put a small food bag over the pumpset and put it in the fridge with my pumped milk. This way I don't have to wash and sterilise it every time I use it. I then wash and sterilise it at the end of the day.
The fact that it is clearly a closed system is super important! I had to do a lot of research to find out what kind of system my previous pumps were. The company makes it very clear, so you know you're getting a WHO compliant pump from a WHO compliant company. No fear of your milk getting contaminated with exposed air from the pump or collecting in the membrane pot that has contact with the pump and thus wasting. This happened with one my previous pumps and it used to upset me so much; every drop counts. Their vacuum seal technology that makes this hygiene barrier between the pump and the pumpset with ones milk possible is just genius.
The 2 icing on the cake for me with this product is its warranty and customer service. It's warranty covers its use for 2 consecutive children! Ardo must be very sure of its pump's ability for this to be the case. As for its customer service, I've never encountered anything like it before in the breastfeedng products world. The few times i've had to call them, they pick up their phone promptly and I always speak with UK based women who know what it is like to pump. You know you'll have empathy and support from them. Once I spoke to someone who wasn' sure of the answer to my question, she just passed me on to someone else immediately who could answer my pumping questions. I find them helpful beyond the call of duty. Their passion to support breastfeeding mothers couldn't be more obvious. They listen to your concerns and suggest suitable solutions to ease your situation. I'm always happier after calling Ardo! Imagine my surprise at being sent replacement pumpset parts at no cost when I needed it as a resolution to a problem I had; and promptly too - next day delivery even though I spoke with them in the afternoon.
They also have very good information about getting the most out of the product on the Ardo Medical site. I especially find the diagams and explanation about how the vacuum seal technology works and also how to know that you're using the right breast shell for you very helpful.
I really appreciate the environmental friendly nature of this product, it can be turned into a double pump if needed for very little cost by just upgrading to a double pumpset, unlike other brands where you have to buy a whole new pump. Also, the pumpset comes with a bottle cap, so the milk collecting bottle can also be used as a milk storage bottle - I use it like these because I've got a spare pumpset.
I also like the fact that its replacement parts if ever needed are easily affordable unlike one of my previous pumps whose replacement parts are not fully stocked by the manufacturer.
The quality of this product is a reflection of the excellent quality that Ardo is. For me, when it comes to breast pumps, Ardo Calypso is the one for me and indeed for all breastfeeding mums. Ardo is big enough to design and produce truly excellent / exceptional products that fully considers its end users without breaking their bank balance or/and exploiting their vulnerability; but small enough for the needed personal touch on this sometimes difficult breastfeeding journey.
Ardo Calypso contributed to the saving of my breastfeeding relationship and boy I'm I glad!Read moreLess
"Easy to use, very effective…"
After struggling with mastitis x2 my ds started to have problems latching on, I thought it was lack of milk till I bought this product, a hand pump was doing nothing but the ardo calypso worked a treat, I almost gave up & use formula milk, I'm so glad I persevered and purchased this breast pump. The customer care at Ardo was brilliant even down to breast feeding advise & support, the team just seem to go the extra mile, they even helped with the couriers who delivered my purchase, absolutely nothing was to much to ask, very impressed all round, I'm now a happy breast feeding mummy again with a very happy ds xxRead moreLess
"Ardo Calypso Double Thumbs Up!…"
I have had the Ardo Calypso double since May this year and I love it. As a mum of two breastfeeding babies (a toddler age two and a young baby aged just 4 months) I was struggling to find time to express using my hand pump, and, if I'm honest, I was finding it a bit of a chore!
Also, just before the birth of my now 4 month old I signed up to donate milk to the Addenbrookes/Rosie Maternity Milk Bank. Therefore, having this pump has been fantastic in enabling me to express regularly not only for my own children’s needs but for milk donation too.
I was a little sceptical about electric breast pumps as I had read a lot of conflicting information regarding open and closed systems and it came to my attention that not all retailers are very clear in stating whether their pumps are a closed system or not. This was initially the reason I was drawn to Ardo, as they very clearly state that their pumps operate on a closed system and as a retailer they are also WHO compliment too (which personally matters a lot to me).
When I called Ardo to discuss the pump and my requirements I found them to be very helpful, knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. The lady I spoke with was able to offer excellent advice such as pumping techniques to maximise my flow, thrifty tips on how to utilise old nursing bras to be able to double express hands free and spoke with a passion about visiting hospital wards on a regular basis to support both staff and new mums alike. It was very refreshing to speak to someone with such enthusiasm and passion for their role. Good customer service is always valuable but when it comes to breastfeeding, promotion positive and informative support it is not only refreshing but vital in order to normalise breastfeeding within today’s society.
The pump arrived the following day (very impressed at such a speedy delivery) and I found it very easy to assemble and use. The settings allow you to set the vacuum and cycle rhythm independently to be able to express in comfort. I find the shells and bottles easy to clean, compact enough to store and quick to assemble. The pump itself is quiet, although a tad on the heavy side, however it fits perfectly back in the sturdy box that it comes in (which is how I have chosen to store mine).
I am a big fan of the small valve which enables you to switch from a double to a single pump. Having one breast which produces more milk than the other I often find that one bottle fills much quicker than the other. When this occurs I simple continue to express from the lesser side using the calypso as a single pump simply by closing the small valve that allows you to interchange between single and double expressing with ease!
Overall, for my first experience with an electric pump, I am thrilled with the Ardo Calypso. It continues to meet the expressed breast milk demands of my two nurslings as well as enabling me to easily pump in excess of three litres of donated milk each month! Furthermore the fantastic and knowledgeable customer service of the Ardo UK team is in my opinion outstanding and altogether I highly recommend both the company and their products!Read moreLess
"Best breast pump I've used - quiet and efficient…"
The Calypso is super quiet (nothing like an awkwardly loud revving noise to alert everyone in the nearby vicinity to the fact that you are expressing!), and more than enough power for an occasional user like myself.
Double pumping is so much quicker, I don't think I'll ever go back to a single pump. I also LOVE that Ardo pumps are WHO compliant and have a closed valve system - meaning they can be used for more than one baby or sold on with no risk that the milk will be contaminated.Read moreLess
"Easy to use, portable.…"
I bought this the day I left hospital with baby. Without it I wouldn't have been able to breastfeed. I used it mostly mains operated, but found the battery operation just as effective. Customer service from ARDO was excellent when I had a slight problem with the unit. It was discreet enough to use to express once I returned to work. Very happy with the pump and accessories.Read moreLess

"A great pump!…"
I really recommend this pump for a number of reasons. It is quiet and efficient to use and I found it much better than other pumps I had tried previously as it has a variety of cup sizes. I really like that it is so light and compact and is easy to transport to work/when travelling. It is great that you can buy attachments to make it into a double pump. For me, one of the main selling points was that it has a 'closed system' pump which ensures that the whole system is kept sterile. I also found the staff at Ardo extremely helpful when I called up with questions.Read moreLess

"Without this pump I would have given up…"
I was given the details of ARDO after having my first child. Breastfeeding was always going to be a challenge due to inverted nipples and ARDO was the only brand I could find that had easily available larger (36mm) breast shells. I found in hospital that smaller ones caused friction and were painful.
I initially bought a cheaper handheld other brand version but found it too much of an effort squeezing the pump and it hurt my wrist.
The ARDO Calypso pump is electric and so much less effort for me. It is similar to the one used in hospital and when i worked out the cost of buying formula for my baby over the next year it pays for itself and then some.
After a few weeks I was confident to buy another breast shell. The Calypso is easily adaptable to go from single to double pumping. This was the best decision I made as it saves so much time and pumping each breast at the same time seems to increase milk production.
Without this pump I would have given up by now!!Read moreLess

"Easy to use quality pump…"
I bought this on offer at Boots having read excellent reviews. I have not used other pumps but found this simple to use and wash. A slight problem with the old style power pack was easily solved by calling Ardo who sent out a free replacement. I have purchased accessories from Ardo directly which were good value and quality. I like the various attachments I can choose for best fit and comfort and find I can quickly express adequate quantities for babysitters etc. Overall an excellent product.Read moreLess

"Easy to use, quiet and comfortable... great buy for any mum…"
This breast pump is a really good investment for any mummy who might need to express and feels they don’t really have the time. It’s easy to use, good quality and very effective; I can normally express in just 10 minutes. Even though I predominantly breast feed, it’s not always possible and being able to express quickly means I don’t find it a hassle.
The Calypso Electric Breast Pump has over 60 different combinations of settings which means that you can adjust it to best suit you and your needs (these may change as your baby gets older). I have found this setting useful as it has enabled me to find a comfortable yet super effective setting – other pumps which aren’t this flexible left me feeling sore and not wanting to express; I never felt like I managed to express as much as I can with the Calypso.
The pump itself is very quiet and means I can finally sit down at the end of a long day and watch some T.V. without having any irritating noises disrupting me; my husband doesn’t even notice the noise. I would be able to express in the same room as my baby with this pump without the fear of waking her. If you needed to express while out, it would be very discreet soundwise – I still wouldn’t do it sat on the tube but if you have to express at work it wouldn’t be obvious what you were doing.
I also love the fact that it uses silicone membrane pots to ensure that the milk doesn’t get into the tubes as this could get very messy. Because the pots keep the milk in the right places, it means that washing and sterilising the bottle and breast shells is really easy but most importantly it means that the milk you express is less likely to become contaminated.
The pump comes with a range of different sized breast shells and inserts to make the experience as comfortable as possible; while this may seem like a waste, I am glad to get the choice as it makes expressing more effective and therefore reduces the time it takes.
To make this pump more flexible, you get the option to run it off of batteries or mains; I have never needed to use the batteries option so don’t know if this affects its suction or not.
The one thing this product could use is a carry case to keep it all together. Because I use the pump every night (my daughter has stopped having her 10pm feed) I want to keep it to hand but feel I need to pack it up every night. If it came with a carry case, this would solve the problem.
I actually bought the double pump but have found that this isn’t necessary. Unless you need to express a lot during the day, I have found the single pump more than adequate. It works so quickly that I actually find it easier to express one side at a time as when I tried the double pump, I have no hands left to adjust the controls. The double pump was only £9 more than the single pump and it’s actually quite nice to have duplicate shells and bottles.
The pump costs £129 which is more expensive than a lot on the market but I would say the overall quality of this pump and ease of use are worth spending that little bit extra on. If bought from http://www.ardobreastpumps.co.uk/ the Calypso pump has an extended guarantee which Ardo say will last an average mum for ‘two consecutive babies whilst benefiting from a full no-quibble manufacturer’s warranty’.Read moreLess

"After using the Ameda Elite in hospital with my second…"
After using the Ameda Elite in hospital with my second little one, I realised the difference that a good breastpump makes to expressing milk.
After a bit of research I decided to get the Ardo Calypso, and I haven't been disappointed! I like the fact that it's easy to tailor the the speed and strength of the pump to get milk flowing quickly and easily. Its also fairly quiet which is great, and I like the fact that I can simply convert it to a double pump with the upgrade kit I got with it. I'm able to get a whole bottle of milk in less than 10 minutes which is a massive difference to my previous electric pump which could take 30 minutes or longer.
The pumping unit itself is larger than I'm used to and not as portable, although it would be reasonably easy to take out and about if I needed to. A carry bag would have been a plus.
The availability of different size breast shields is also great, and the breast shields and collection bottles are easy to clean and sterilise.
Overall this is a great pump and I'd strongly recommend it.Read moreLess
