In partnership with Asda

At Asda we're really keen that every store plays an active role in the life of their local community. From raising money for local charities to volunteering, our colleagues take their responsibilities towards their local communities very seriously.

2014 will be the third year of our initiative, Community Life. Each store has a Community Life Champion to work with community groups and local organisations. Our champions help keep an up-to-date noticeboard in our foyers to let you know what's going on and how to get involved. They help arrange events in store and inspire colleagues and customers to get involved in local community work.

Community Life is about making the area around our store a better place to live and work for our colleagues and customers. We have created the Community Life Champion role to work not just with, but within the community.

Asda is also inviting local people to vote for local causes to receive a donation from the Asda Foundation, the supermarket's charity. Called "Chosen by You, Given by Us", three local not-for-profit organisations will be shortlisted every two months based on nominations from customers and the wider community.

Customers can vote in-store by putting tokens handed out at the tills in to one of three marked boxes next to the store's Community Life board. Tiered donations based on the number of votes will then be given to help improve the lives of local people. Check it out at a store near you!

Asda saves a space in-store – for you!

Thanks to Asda's Community Life commitment, local not-for-profit organisations can use space inside stores at no cost. So whether it's a PTA meeting, Brownies or a local yoga group, Asda can help give you a place to escape the cold weather and meet in a safe environment.

Dawn Clements, Asda Head of Community, says: “Lots of our customers get involved in Community Life. From baking cakes for charity to using our store cafes for coffee mornings, they play a big part in our stores. We are delighted to partner with Mumsnet and help give our mums an even bigger voice.”

Stores can act as the perfect meeting venue for a coffee, play date or local meet-ups and free Wi-Fi is available in all our stores. For bigger stores, please speak to the Community Life Champion about setting up a coffee morning in your local Asda cafe. Asda Living stores all offer coffee and cake spaces and provide refreshments and baby changing facilities for younger children.

Asda would love Mumsnet members to make the most of the space and get to know their local store colleagues. To find out more please contact your local Community Life Champion – contact details will be on the Community Life board inside your local Asda.
