Don't just watch it, do it

Haven love to help families get together and enjoy the outdoors, and whilst many of us may sit and watch all the sporting action at the Common Wealth games this year, there will be some families out there willing to give it a go.

Lucky for them, Haven have many different, exciting and fun sporting activities that will help train up your little sporting star. Plus, getting outside means giving your family that all important Vitamin D needed for healthy and strong bones.

Graham Bell, five times Olympic skier and eight times British Champion, officially opened Airspace, the £2.2 million indoor sports facility at Craig Tara holiday park in Ayrshire, earlier this year. "I was lucky enough to try all sorts of activities as a child growing up in Scotland," he said, "my parents encouraged me to try as many sports as possible."

At Haven that is also encouraged, and a holiday is the perfect to time to discover new talents and learn those all important skills. With most of the parks offering a chance to try your hand at archery, tennis or fencing, it couldn't be easier. Just think, a member of your family could be competing in the next Common Wealth games or Olympics, all thanks to Haven!

Haven also offers coaching in football and golf as well as fencing and archery which both take place in the indoor sports zones, so if you are unlucky with the weather it won't have to spoil your fun. You will be kitted out with everything you need and given professional tuition from the Haven sports and leisure team. There are also mini versions of these activities available especially for under-fives, which are included in the cost of the holiday.

New for 2014, Haven are very excited to be welcoming The British Basketball League to 14 of their parks. They will be teaching everyone to shoot, throw and dribble, and for once this dribble won't be the messy kind. Why not check out Rory's skills and learn essential tricks with our YouTube video of when Rory met Connor Washington and Drew Sullivan from the Leicester Riders.

SwimmingIf you'd like to get off land for a bit, the at Haven pools aren't just for swimming - you can walk, jet or glide across the water. There are AquaJets, Turbo Paddlers, Water Walkerz and loads more fun activities to take advantage of. Many pools have flumes and slides, SplashZones, toddler areas and fun inflatables. For the little ones there are free water confidence sessions, and older ones can sign up for Learn2Swim sessions so that everybody can be involved.

Although some coached activities like football are included in the price of your holiday, some do carry an extra charge. The best advice is to pre-purchase some sports activity passes as you will save up to 25%, the average cost of a coached session is £6 per person.

With all this going on, don't just watch it - do it!
