Yogurt bread

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 570ml natural yoghurt

  • 1 tbsp demerara sugar

  • 450g plain wholemeal flour

  • 1 handful seeds (optional)

  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda heaped

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200C/Gas Mark 6.
  2. Mix all dry ingredients together, then mix in about three quarters of the yogurt with your hands. Add rest of yogurt a bit of a time. If it is not moist enough put some milk in.
  3. Put in a loaf tin or just make into a rough loafy shape and put on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes and then lower heat to 180C/Gas Mark 4.
  5. Eat while still warm, though it does slice better when cold.

    How long should you cook it for after you've lowered the temperature?

    whwn I wrote white bread I meant white flour obviously!

    If you make this with white bread and add yeast instead of baking powder you have yourself an easy naan bread recipe! Just shape into flat naan bread shapes and cook on an upturned wok or frying pan over a high flame for about two ro three minutes on each side, or if you don't have a gas hob grill on both sides until cooked and puffed up.
