Ingredients

  • 115g butter

  • 115g brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp golden syrup

  • 1 tsp ginger (or 1/2 tsp nutmeg or 1 tsp cinnamon)

  • 170g oats (jumbo or a combination)

  • 1 large cooking apple peeled and cored (or 2 medium dessert apples)

Method

  1. Melt the butter, sugar, and syrup together in a large saucepan.
  2. Then, add the oats and the spices and mix well. Put half the mixture into a 7inch square brownie tin, then grate the apples over the top.
  3. Cover with the remaining half of the mixture and cook at 160C for about 35 minutes, longer if you like it crunchy.
