Explore Learning - a Family Friendly company
Explore Learning was founded with the aim of making high quality tuition as family friendly as possible, and so we are incredibly proud to be a part of the Mumsnet Family Friendly programme. We are continually striving to provide the best possible service for our parents and children, and to offer the best working environment for our staff.
1. Tuition that children enjoy
At Explore, we believe that confidence, enthusiasm and independence are as important as academic progress to a child's development. Explore centres are fun, vibrant places that children enjoy attending, which means that the process of attending a tutor is much less stressful for parents too. In addition to this, children make great progress, and our tuition is award-winning - Explore Learning was named Supplementary Education Provider of the Year in both 2011 and 2012 at the prestigious Education Investor Awards.
2. Support and advice for parents
We get to know every single one of our members and their parents personally. We pride ourselves on being open and approachable so that parents feel comfortable asking us any questions they may have about their child's progress or the education system more generally. All of our members receive one-on-one parent conferences on a regular basis, and are also invited to attend free workshops for parents on subjects such as Understanding Phonics Screening and How to Help Your Child With Their Maths Homework.
3. Taking the stress out of homework
We understand that homework time can be stressful for families. At Explore we do not give any homework, and also provide positive support that helps both children and parents to understand the work set by school.
4. Affordable for families
We strive to make our tuition accessible to the widest range of families. As Explore Learning is Ofsted Registered in England, parents can use Childcare Vouchers to pay for membership, and families receiving Working Tax Credits may be eligible for a discount of up to 70% on the cost of Explore membership. This means that our tuition is often much more affordable than more traditional forms of tutoring.
5. Open seven days a week, with families attending on a drop-in basis
When we started Explore in 2001, we had the aim of making tuition as convenient as possible for busy families. That is why all of our centres are open seven days a week, and operate on a drop-in basis with no pre-booking required. Our parents really value being able to fit their Explore membership around all the other things they have going on during the week, with the ability to change plans at short notice.
Explore Learning is also innovative in the way that it provides tuition in convenient, accessible locations that are appealing to children and parents alike. Explore centres are located within shopping centres, supermarkets or on local high streets. These locations mean that the centres are easy to access, and are convenient for parents. Children attend Explore Learning for an hour and a quarter, and during this time parents often carry out their weekly supermarket shop, or relax in local cafes, allowing Explore to fit well with busy family life.
1. Great team spirit
Explore Learning was named the 47th Best Company to Work for in the UK in the Sunday Times Best Companies Awards 2014. We were praised for the strong sense of family within our teams at work, and ranked as the 5th best company in the UK for personal growth. 86% of staff said Explore is a fun place to work, which we believe is a testament to our great members and their parents who make our centres such vibrant, positive places.
2. Staff development
We invest heavily in the development of our staff and provide a supportive environment that allows our staff to have a healthy work-life balance. However, we still aim for improvement we are excited to be working with the Mumsnet Programme to reflect and improve upon our family-friendly practices.
