How to crochet a striped cushion
Colour is the key ingredient of this simple, stylish cushion with its cord-like edging. The entire project, including the edging, is in double crochet.
The last row of the edging is worked from left to right instead of right to left, which takes a little getting used to, but it isn't difficult.

With 4.50mm hook and A, make 43 chain.
Miss 2 ch, * 1 double crochet in next ch; rep from * to end. 42 sts.
1 ch, [1 dc in next dc] 40 times, 1 dc in top ch of 2 ch.
1 ch, [1 dc in next dc] 40 times, 1 dc in ch. Rep last row 19 times. Total 22 rows. With B, work 14 rows. With C, work 2 rows. With D, work 8 rows. With A, work 22 rows. Fasten off.
Follow the same instructions as the back.
Matching stripes, place front on back, wrong sides together. With front facing, starting on a long side, using 4.00mm hook and A, join with double crochet: insert hook under 2 strands of first st of front and under 2 strands of corresponding st of back, yarn round hook and pull through a loop, yarn round hook again and pull it through 2 loops to make a dc.
Continue like this, working a dc in pairs of stitches and working 3 dc in each corner, until 1 short side and 2 long sides have been joined.
Along second short side work 1 dc in each st of front only to leave an opening for the cushion pad, join with a slip stitch to the first dc. Do not fasten off.
With front still facing, work dc from left to right (sometimes called crab stitch).
Insert hook under 2 strands of next dc on right, yarn round hook, pull through a loop to make 2 loops on the hook.
Yarn round hook and pull it through 2 loops to complete dc. Work all stitches in this way.
Fasten off. Insert cushion pad and stitch opening closed.
