We are grandparents that look after our daughter's identical twin 20-month old boys several times a week. We have had several BMWs in the past and just bought a brand new 320d Touring. The good news is that it is still one of the best in its class for most things you look for in a car; great ride, though unlike the professional testers, we didn't think the adaptive suspension was worth the money. The sport auto gearbox is a no-brainer over the standard auto. 2.0 diesel engine giving high-40s mpg. Now the sting in the tail: We had bought Recaro Monza Nova IS seats because they came so high in the Which list for safety. They fitted an Audi A4 we had briefly before the BMW with no problems at all, but the 320 has its adult seat belt sockets right next to the ISOFIX sockets and it is a nightmare trying to get the adult seat belt locked in whilst leaning over the child. I've tried all ways of getting a solution - or even recognition - from BMW but have just had the brush off. So if you are considering this car, check out your child seats in one first!
