"Fantastic family car, feels safe and easy to drive"

Mine is an 03 plate so not the new style, but I am really happy with it. So easy to drive, steer and park. Visibility is good and it feels safe whatever the weather.
I don't drive off road but dh does and says it holds the ground well!
Like the fact we are high up, especially on the motorway, as we can see what is going on. dc are happy in the back and there seems to be enough room.
The only downside is that the boot is small. It can hold shopping and scooters etc but bikes will not fit.

    "safe, reliable and spacious"

I have had my Freelander now for about 6mths, and although not new, I love it. It is very spacious, feels safe and reliable and there is enough storage space in the boot for the buggy/pram as well as shopping and other stuff.

A negative would be that it is a 1.6 petrol and it sounds strained at higher speeds - perhaps a 6th gear would be good....it also does use a lot more fuel than my previous small car.

On the whole though, I would not want to have a smaller car again - at least until my little ones are older, and I would certainly consider upsizing/larger engine to get a better fuel consumption.

In terms of being built to last - I see lots of Freelanders driving around quite a bit older than mine, so I guess they are likely to have a good lifespan.

"Family friendly, but I may need something bigger"

On the whole I like our 2011 Freelander XS, easily fits in our small family (1 baby) + the ridiculous amount of things that you take on holiday for your pfb.

Exterior: The exterior of Freelanders is starting to look a little dated compared to newer more 'rounded cars', however the boxy look works to the advantage of boot storage.

Front: The front is spacious and had plenty of room to store bits and pieces (glasses, tissues etc). The drivers seat is easy to adjust, however I wish we had gone for the memory seat option (lazy) which stores favourite positions so the driver simply presses their button and the seat automatically adjusts. I think that the dash board is starting to look dated compared to other manufacturers latest offerings.

Back: There is plenty of room in the back too and a Maxi Cosi car seat fits well (with family fix base). There are however only 2 ISOfix points (but there is a full seatbelt in the middle seat). I am however thinking we will change for a car which can accommodate 7 seats before we have a second child (to ferry around visiting grandparents, friends etc)

Boot: The boot is a good size (helped by the height of the back of the car, although when full you feel like you are driving a van as you can't see out of the back window). Another slight downside for weak shorties like me is the height of the boot when lugging heavy pushchairs in and out.

Driving: I enjoy driving this car, its easy to drive, good visibility and parking sensors work well. Its 4 wheel drive capability is decent (we have used it in heavy snow but not across fields). We have the 190hp engine and acceleration is very good.

Reliability: We have had the car for 15 months and it has had one fault (electronics) which required a garage visit. The Landrover dealers were very quick to help and offered a replacement car for the day without asking. The problem was minor (computer glitch) and the car was ready to pick up within the day.

    "Great all rounder"

We bought our freelander mainly because we tow a sizeable caravan and also because my husband needed comfortable car for travelling up and down the motorway for work. The car is so comfy and feels very smooth to travel in, and the high driving position gives you a fantastic view of the road so you feel very safe and secure. The freelander handles the towing with ease and we have say we find it to be pretty good on petrol as well. With regard to filling up for a large car the fuel tank is very small which is a bit of a nuisance albeit a minor complaint. I found that the steering was very light and the car is easy to park - helped by sensors, which I wasn't expecting.

"Tough, rugged, capable but a bit squashed"

As a driver this car is great, it's responsive yet solid. Boot space is fine for normal stuff, buggies, scooters etc. . For a family of 4 camping we needed a roof box. paid a premium for Landrover name, not sure I would again. I think would go for Nissan but overall it's fine. the grass is always greener!
