VW is adding two new range-topping engines to the Beetle line-up, one petrol and one diesel. Both are available with a choice of DSG or manual gearboxes.
The turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with 197bhp will be the fastest Beetle available, so you can get from traffic jam to traffic jam in even less time. Fuel economy works out at 38.2mpg with the manual gearbox and 36.7mpg with the auto.
That makes the 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel a more wallet-friendly option. On average it claims to cover 57.6mpg in manual form, or 52.3mpg with the DSG gearbox.
As the engines both sit at the top of the Beetle range they come fitted with plenty of luxury equipment. Big alloy wheels, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, air-con and leather trimmings are standard. Sport versions add tinted windows, parking sensors and cruise control. Petrol versions even offer red brake callipers.
Both models are available to order now and there's some stock available if you must have one today. Prices start at £20,085.
