What Mumsnetters said

We honestly cannot wait to be able to read it again and again - although perhaps we'll wait a wee bit closer to Christmas Day!

I read this book with my 6 year old daughter. She found the book captivating with its beautiful illustrations. She especially enjoyed the poem and loves listening to the CD at bedtime.

The illustration in the book is simply gorgeous, and the story is a classic, one that we loved. The book will be a treasured keepsake & read for many years to come.

What the Jackdaw Saw by Julia Donaldson and Nick Sharratt
Poor jackdaw is about to fly into trouble - will he learn to read the animals' signs in time? The jackdaw wants all his friends to come to his party, but when he calls out his invitation the animals just touch their heads. Why won't they answer? And what do their actions mean? Luckily a brown owl can help him with the puzzle!

This book about friendship and sign language was created by Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson with a group of deaf children in a workshop organised by the not-for-profit organisation Life & Deaf.

Mumsnetters Say:

This book is just fabulous, my three year old daughter loves the story. It has everything, wonderful rhymes, engaging illustrations and interactive signing. It's now a firm favourite and will be for a long time to come!

The Best Christmas Present Ever by Ben Mantle

Sometimes it's the thought that makes the best Christmas present . . .

It's Christmas and Bear has forgotten to get his best friend Squirrel a present. Oh no! He'll have to make something instead. Except Bear isn't very good at making things. A badly knitted jumper, a terrible painting and a broken rocking chair. They're not exactly the best Christmas presents ever...Or are they?

Mumsnetters Say:

I read this book to my DDs, aged 6 and 3. They both enjoyed it but the 3-year-old asked for an immediate repeat read, and has wanted it for her bedtime story every night for the past four nights!

How Mumsnet Rated works

Each month 150 members of the Mumsnet panel are sent one of three books to read with their child aged two to six: each book is read and reviewed by 50 MNers. Once they have read the book, the reviewers complete a survey form to rate the book on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is absolutely brilliant and 1 is terrible. The book with the highest average score wins the Mumsnet Rated badge.
