About the book (for ages 9 - 12)

Cogheart is a Victorian adventure filled with murder, mystery, mayhem and a dash of steampunk.  Be swept away by airships and flabbergasted by dastardly plots in this wildly imaginative debut which is bursting with invention. It was chosen as the Waterstones Children's Book of the Month for August 2016.

When Lily's inventor father vanishes after a routine Zeppelin flight, the 13-year-old is determined to find out the truth behind his disappearance. But she's not the only one searching for him; there are silver-eyed men in the shadows who will stop at nothing until they've found him.

With Robert, the local clockmaker's son, and a cantankerous clockwork fox called Malkin in tow, Lily travels to London. It soon becomes clear that she holds the key to the mystery - which is closer to Lily's heart than she could have ever imagined.

Praise for Cogheart

"Marvellous fun for nine plus readers" – New Statesman

"A glittering clockwork treasure"– Piers Torday, author of The Last Wild

"Vivid and gripping… a beautifully-drawn world and delicate detailing, as finely wrought as a watch's workings." – Kiran Millwood Hargrave, author of Girl of Ink and Stars

"A delightfully badly behaved heroine, enthralling mechanicals and a stormer of a plot." – Abi Elphinstone, author of The Dreamsnatcher

About the author

Peter Bunzl grew up in a rambling Victorian house with three cats, two dogs, one sister, an antique-dealer dad and an artist mum. As a child he loved writing and illustrating books and comics, and so he went off to study animation at university. Peter has animated commercials and two BAFTA-winning children's TV shows. Recently his stories spilled from screen to page and he found he loved this new wordier way of telling tales. Cogheart is Peter's debut novel. A sequel, Moonlocket, will follow in 2017.
