How to Add a Metatag

What is a metatag?

A metatag is like a label attached to your blog and/or blogposts, telling the search engines what you’re all about.

Why to add a metatag to your blog

You know what your blog’s all about – but do your readers? To get your little fish noticed out there in the sea of blogs, and make sure it’s caught in the right net, you need to add a metatag.

How to add a metatag in Blogspot

You’ll need to insert the following content into your html code:

<meta content='IE=EmulateIE7' http-equiv='X-UA-Compatible'/>
<meta content=’INSERT DESCRIPTION HERE' name='description'/>
<meta content=’INSERT KEYWORDS HERE' name='keywords'/>

In Blogspot, you need to go to ‘Design’ and then click ‘edit html’. Find the following and add in your meta content just below <head>.:

How to add a metatag in Wordpress

Wordpress have a great explanation of what a metatag is and how to add one here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Meta_Tags_in_WordPress.

But adding a metatag in Wordpress it’s a little trickier because you need to pay to edit your blog’s code. We suggest going to ‘Dashboard’ then ‘Settings’ then ‘General’ and adding a tagline here:

If you’ve got more time on your hands, you may want to download one of a plugin to try and add a metatag.
