Not comfortable in sports bra and hot pants

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to join a yoga or pilates class to get back in shape after my pregnancy. I went for a trial class recently and felt that the attire I just bought was too revealing especially as I am not very confident with my post-pregnancy body.

I've been browsing around, and don't you feel that most of the sports wear range out there reveals a bit too much?? Just wondering if you guys have the same problem? I feel like I am the only one who doesn't want to wear hot pants and a sports bra for class. Any suggestions of where to buy decent sports wear?

Any suggestion would be appreciated!! Class starts in 2 weeks! Excited and nervous!

I don't know anyone who wears that sort of thing you describe to yoga or Pilates! In my experience people go for leggings and close fitting t shirts or vests (to stop them flapping up when you are upside down) with a sports bra underneath.

As for brands I tend to buy from an independent running shop near my office. My leggings are Ronhill. My tops are whatever they happen to have on sale.

I consider myself fit and am happy wth my shape/size but I have never and have not seen any one wear just a crop/sports bra top and shorts.

I wear
athletic leggings- H and M are good
Supportive sports bra- as above
Vest top- Nike or h and m

In the summer u wear short shorts but still with a vest top.

I only go for sports bra and hotpants if it's hot yoga/bikram. And then I don't care what I look like, I don't want a shred more clothing anywhere near me!

I never see anyone wear shorts and sports bra to a gym class.

The youngsters might wear a crop top but they'll be in full length gym leggings. Anyone in shorts will usually be in a t shirt on top. There really isn't much skin on show.

TK maxx usually has good stuff in. Mine is a mix of Maxx, primark, sports direct and H&M..

I've been doing yoga for 6 months now and am still far from confident getting my bits out in the kind of garb you're talking about! I wear leggings, a sports bra, and an oversize wide neck tee (actually a handkerchief top from DPs!) - it's cooling and covers my flabby bits and I'm nowhere near expert enough to be worried about the top flapping around when I'm doing inversion poses as I'm only in them about 3 seconds! The hot yoga I go to does have some people wearing cropped tops but usually with full length leggings. Most of us wear full length leggings and a close fitting vest top though. If it is to loose then it falls down when you do your headstand. Smile

What temp and humidity is that hamabeads? Out of interest?

About 38 degrees ish. The humidity has been quite high recently due to the general humidity outside!

Long leggings are necessary for certain poses as your legs get too slippery with sweat if you wear shorts.

Thanks. I do bikram which is 40 degrees and 40% humidity before the class starts. Only seen one or two folk in long leggings in a class of about 45. Personally notbhad a problem holding poses just on bare skin even though I'm pouring sweat from every pore, but i have a grip of steel (used to do aerial circus) and can dry on a towel just prior if needed.

I'm looking for another hot class though as I don't want my money going to Bikram as he's a cock. But i don't want to be the only one in basically my underwear so will clad myself in more until I suss it out!

No crop-tops, sports bras or shorts (hot or not) in my Pilates class. Apart from the occasional bra-revealing racer-back vest, T-shirts/vests and leggings are the norm, and the one man in the class wears the same T-shirt and track pants week after week.

Not one person in my class wears hot pants or just a sports bra. Leggings and vest top or sports top are what is the norm.

hama yy, downward dog is the enemy of baggy t-shirts and necklaces.

I think Instagram has a lot to answer for- no-one at my yoga class wears bra tops and shorts. It's leggings/ long shorts and t-shirts/ racing back vests.

I wear cropped leggings and a vest top with a looser top over the top- usually fairly sheer. I take nice fluffy socks for meditation at the end. I think they are the only things I have bought just to wear at yoga.

I've only ever seen one person in hot pants at yoga, and that was under the Mediterranean sun, in the summer. In any studio I've been to, people either wear sweatpants or leggings.

I agree that a loose top doesn't work well in yoga because of inversions, downward dog etc but the bottom can be as loose as you want it to be.
