Come hold my hand. Hoping for a win within fulltime. Is anyone else here?

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 14:47:28

Yup! I am nervously waiting for kick off

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 14:50:04

Helloooo. Hope it's better than the last match. I couldn't cope with going to penalties. Wine's in though, might need it grin

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 14:55:36

I am sat next to the TV playing on my laptop so I cant see the TV screen but listening to the game like on a radio - I just can't watch.

sophable Sun 27-Jun-10 14:57:32

in my FANTASTIC new kitchen/dining/living space...enjoying the view out through huge doors to garden...

and am not that tense coz being an internationalist i'm hoping that football will win today (ducks to avoid being bottled!)

am sat on the sofa. feel a bit guilty for not being out in the sunshine but can't miss this!

any one enduring this on iplayer?

sophable Sun 27-Jun-10 15:00:46

dh can't actually sit down. is watching standing up.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:00:49

sophable this is not the place for that sort of language <peers over glasses>

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:01:37

the bit about internationalism

sophable Sun 27-Jun-10 15:03:02

sorry darling.

how do you know i'm not triple back double bluffing myself cause i care so much?

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:04:07

am not watching it atm

couldn't bear to watch England lose to Germany tbh. I would love Ghana to win th world cup if there is any hope of it. I am so keen on Ghana winning, I couldn't watch the game yesterday. Only swtiched on the tv when it was finished to watch them celebrate.

this whole football competitionthing just doesn't work for me, can only watch games I couldn't care less about

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:05:42

he he he Soph.
bloody hell. close

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 15:05:46

I'm in Germany. dh is German. I felt quite tearful during the national anthems. dc seem to be supporting England. wink

sophable Sun 27-Jun-10 15:07:07

hi franke is it boiling hot like it is here in london?

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 15:07:47

Yep, sizzlin'.

you have trained them well franke!

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 15:10:48

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:10:49

dd is down the road watching with the German family actually

The German family that is that drove me mad last week or wehnever it was when they won against Ghana and honked their car horn at 3 in the mnorning. When did the game finish?

Ghana can still win, Ghana can win. In the meantime : go England. I shall be cleaning windows...

TriplePachyderm Sun 27-Jun-10 15:11:33

sitting with wine and kfc hoping england lose grin

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:12:31

I love the coating on KFC but what do they do to the chicken underneath? I notice we seem to all pick off the covering and throw away a lot of chicken with the bones

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:12:59

that boateng of germany looks quite yummy though

BosomsByTheSea Sun 27-Jun-10 15:13:13

In the living room with 9 month twin boys both fallen asleep on the floor after the excitement of the garden and the paddling pool earlier. Not watching (no telly) but listening on 5 live. Have sent DH to the pub for a few hours off (he is f-t SAHD, he needs a break at the weekend smile)

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:14:23

so who is going to win the WC then? I know really it won't be Ghana in the end.

Won't be England or Gemrany though either, will it?

nice save

Timbachick Sun 27-Jun-10 15:16:21

Got absolutely everything crossed for an England win. DH is supporting England all the way (is of Italian extraction so somewhat depressed at the moment). DS is supporting England too ... it's either that or he get's no dinner grin

Beers are cooling for after - post England-win-celebratory BBQ!

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:16:42

oh sigh I will go and watchi t. Posting about it is not much different to actually watching.

Meglet Sun 27-Jun-10 15:17:09

in the garden watching it on lap top grin

Just got back from a birthday party so DD is having a nap and DS is watching cbeebies upstairs in my room.

free kick...

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:18:24

We need Beckham.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:18:26

kfc became tooooo greasy, even the chips are greasy hmm

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:19:02

We definitley need Beckham. hmm

welcome to the dark side zen.

doh. waste of a free kick.

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:19:35

Is it me or is Wayne Rooney looking slow and heavy these days?

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:20:11

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lilymaid Sun 27-Jun-10 15:20:33

Oh no!

Meglet Sun 27-Jun-10 15:20:47

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:21:47

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:22:19

I thought Germany were running a bit to freely in midfeld for my liking.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:22:48

Triple are you supporting Germany?
<passive aggressive smile>

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:23:07

Now I am speaking German ....midfeld...?

sophable Sun 27-Jun-10 15:23:24

Tidey Sun 27-Jun-10 15:23:41

Oh bugger

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:23:57

grin beta

zzen - you can replicate kfc by soaking chicken nuggets in a bowl of sunflower oil then microwaving them!

(love the taste of kfc but can't bring myself to eat it cos I think the welfare of their chickens must be terrible)

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:24:50

LOL at speaking German.

Are you like my dd? Whatever game she watches, she waits to see who looks like they're going to win and then she'll swtich allegiance anytime. Has to bge on the side of the winner.

I'm for the underdog. In this way though she is more Gemran than English I think.

TriplePachyderm Sun 27-Jun-10 15:25:24

sorry guys

I'm not really a football fan but watching for fun and I'm trying to renouce my englishness, have been for years, so can't support england grin

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:25:52

something wrong with the chicken

The coating is the good though. Could quite happily buy a hamper of that without the chicken

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:26:32

that's ok triple, you're allowed. Join in slagging off the umpires though, that's the main thing about watching football, isn't it?

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:27:16

this is too hard

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 15:28:48

Meglet Sun 27-Jun-10 15:33:18

I am having to bite my lip here and not bellow at my neighbours who are cheering wildly angry.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:33:31

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 27-Jun-10 15:33:33

What is the point of even playing the match....we should have just booked our flights home when we knew we were going to play Germany!

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:33:47

I am definitley going to water some vegetables now and I think I will also need a drink myself.

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 15:34:22

Bye bye capello
rooney' s career going to be in tatters
the 'never quite made it ' men

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:34:42

I knew I shouldn't watch this.

That was a good goal though. How do they get this Poles playing for Germany? I rmeember when Lukas Podalski and that other Polish guy - what's his name? - played for Gemrany in the WC and had to play against Poland.

Bet that was a tough game for them

Well I think England is out tbh

and fgs
and fgs. Hope it doesn't end up 7:0 or something like that

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:37:32

compo I don't question/doubt that Capello is a brilliant coach. It's the team, not the coach.

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:37:51

Oh, we are back in it! hmm

What was the German goalie doing?

TriplePachyderm Sun 27-Jun-10 15:37:52

LadyBiscuit Sun 27-Jun-10 15:39:57

The BBC think it's in. Scoreboard is showing 2-1

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 15:40:06

Ffs how can they not let us have that
can't be run on pitch and stop the game ?!!!
There's going to be riots if we go out now sad

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 27-Jun-10 15:40:08

Is he on a f'ing backhander???

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:40:12

That was so massively over the line and they will not allow 4th referees and technology.

There is over £50 million being bet on this game and it is currently 2:2 - FIFA need to rethink.

tethersend Sun 27-Jun-10 15:40:43

What the fucking fuck???

Meglet Sun 27-Jun-10 15:40:59

LB that was for the first goal. There was a second goal after that.

Enormarse Sun 27-Jun-10 15:41:02

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:41:08

lady, it is 2-1. england scored again to make it 2-2
you been watching intently then grin

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 15:41:16

The german goalie must have known it was in

TriplePachyderm Sun 27-Jun-10 15:41:45

lol @ lady

LadyBiscuit Sun 27-Jun-10 15:42:05

There was an urgent incident involving a Spiderman water squirter on my new carpet

Phew - thought I was in a parallel universe

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:42:18

first it was maradona's hand of god....now this hmm

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:42:53

of course it is IN, is undeniably IN. Are they all sunstruck, blind, half asleep?

let's fgs get a bit of modern technology in there

noddyholder Sun 27-Jun-10 15:42:58

This is so stressful NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the ref should write a personal apology to every single England fan.

Meglet Sun 27-Jun-10 15:43:46

am loving the bbc commentators slagging off FIFA.

This is a billion dollar industry with no technology behind it.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:44:04

I'll use that apology as bogroll

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 15:45:01

I don't mind losing, I do mind being robbed

its incredible Attila.

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 15:46:49

Bloody cheating germans - that bloody goalie knew it was in angry

LadyBiscuit Sun 27-Jun-10 15:47:35

That is outrageous - useless refs. If they can have those line things in tennis I'm sure they could splash out for them in football

were the assitant refs not allowed to say anything? what the hell is the point - were non of them looking at the ball?

Meglet Sun 27-Jun-10 15:47:59

if Rooney has just been gobby to the ref then we are in even more shit than we were....

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 15:48:25

It wasn't as if it was even close - it was soooooooooooo far over

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:48:43

if there is one place you'd think they'd manage to look at, it would be the goal

Exactly Zen!!
bloody bloody hell. bastards.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:50:08

I have German satellite tv and even the Germans are saying it was definitely IN and there can be absolutely no doubt about it

but then they said something about it being a pay back for 1966 and whether it was on the line or not. No idea what they are talking about. They're not complaining mind.

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:50:34

On the other hand the England defence has still been useless.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:51:40

Gemrans are saying that they had the game in the hand and allowed themselves to be irritated by England's "totally unnecessary goal" after which apparently they have crumbled

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:52:20

must have some coffee and wire myself up some more

bloody linesmen wtf

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 15:52:23

England are lucky the Germans only scored twice - the defence has been appalling and the Germans have taken full advantage of them. Cracking goals.

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 15:53:39

Interesting. Alan Hansen just said something similar about Germany.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:54:32

yy defence apalling

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:56:18

ok final score anyone?

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 15:58:03

DH 3-2 England smile

Me 2-2 penalties and we'll win!

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 15:58:59

I was thinking that too steamy - penalties

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 15:59:15

2-2. extra time 3-2 to england

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 27-Jun-10 15:59:41

DS (4) will not shut up! Keeps standing in front of the TV and whinging...aibu to be toying with giving him some biscuits to shut him up???

Dh has brought the portable DVD down for him to watch...I initially said no as 'in my day' if my parents wanted to watch TV, we learnt to do something else until we could put a video on (yes was video in those days grin) and its a lovely day, he has a garden, a sandpit, a trampoline and a water play table! But both DH and DS have whinged so much, I have relented....

Now I've got fecking 'they're to they're four they're six and eight..hauling trucks and shunting frieght' in my right ear...

Fecking Island of Fecking Sodor

<Puss mutters>

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:01:36

this is no time for good parenting. Biscuits, dvd

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 27-Jun-10 16:03:22

You think? DH is now in mood at interrupted footy match...

Still, at least he knows some of what I have when I am on my non working days with DS grin

absolutely - what ever works!

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:04:17

I've often wondered if you sneaked an extra man on in the middle of exciting play, who would notice? And they're all milling about, aren't they? Difficult to count

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:05:00

they've been saying too , there is something wrong with the ball

TriplePachyderm Sun 27-Jun-10 16:05:24

I would have had biscuits, dvds, pringles, skittles about 10 mins before the match

no four year old will stop me watching lol

Tidey Sun 27-Jun-10 16:06:05

This is bullcrap. Why can't they watch the frickin footage afterwards and allow it when they can clearly see that it was a goal? Fucking bullshit.

zen - i don't think the ref would notice if they tried that.

winnybella Sun 27-Jun-10 16:10:57

French commentators are saying that referee is coming down hard on Germans now, as he obviously fucked up with the goal.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:12:18

COME ON angry
where's roo???

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:12:59

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 16:13:23

My view is if an England player dives in the German box the ref will give a penalty no question - even if the ball is the other end of the pitch. grin

interesting perspective winny - what was their reaction when it happened?

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 16:14:18

Our commentators sound pissed off with our players and the ref

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:14:22

have I already said like the look of that boateng?

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 16:14:29

Defoe has out shone Rooney.

Earlybird Sun 27-Jun-10 16:14:50

Rooney has been a complete non-entity this World Cup (other than his complaints about fans). Maybe he should have been left home with Theo Walcott.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:15:50

this ref wouldn't notice a thing

who is he anyway

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:15:53

choice words fromm james hmm

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 16:15:57

willie - that's what I've been saying for the whole tournament. I hear that he's quite good at football, apparently.

winnybella Sun 27-Jun-10 16:16:28

BadKitten- they said that it was obviously in and how FIFA needs to get their shit together wrt the video replay and that it's a shame that things like that can happen in the 1/8 of the World Cup final.

MollieO Sun 27-Jun-10 16:16:29

Ds at a party. Am enjoying watching the footie without the pleading from him to watch 'my programme'. Ds likes all the paraphanlia but not the actual football.

Ref needs to get a grip of this game or else give 10 mins extra time to allow for German time wasting.

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 16:17:07

I reckon the score will stay like this until the whistle sad

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:17:34

next game hmm capello should drop rooney

cyteen Sun 27-Jun-10 16:18:38

Rooney has done nothing all tournament. NOTHING.

We are still fuming over the goal that was a goal angry

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 16:19:17

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:20:10

i just don't get it.what's happened to him?

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 16:21:15

Cole on and Milner off. Why? I dont understand that. Wasted substitution.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:21:17

rooney i mean.
there has to be a scapegoat for this.
we love a b it of scapegoat we do.

rooney went off all limpy last match didn't he.

thanks winny

go Joe!

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:22:03

free kick grin

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 16:22:19

Good one Rooney. Now just do that 15 yards nearer the goal.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:23:04

it's over now

oh no.

BeenBeta Sun 27-Jun-10 16:23:13

England only have themselves to blame.

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 16:23:28

May as well switch off and go do something else hmm

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:23:49

yes. we've played so badly whole tournament

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 16:24:30

Absolutely beautiful - got to give it to them fantastic goals! They are fully exploiting England. sad

Crivens Sun 27-Jun-10 16:25:10

My BIL, who is British Ambassador to a country I won't specify, is having to watch this in public in a hotel with the German Ambassador and remain polite and gracious.

I fear for his blood pressure....

we are being rubbish.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:26:20

that's it I reckon

And Boateng should be playing for Ghana, like his brother. Wtf playing for Germany?

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:26:32

it's a disaster

winnybella Sun 27-Jun-10 16:26:36

Oh no.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:26:55

we got one, we got one

it's not so bad

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:27:16

a ctually we got two

even so...

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:27:39

we're too fucking slow
2 goals on the counterattack. bam bam

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 16:27:56

We got 2 actually ZZZen angry

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 16:28:15

I think this German team is incredible - their passing is perfect, the ball is falling at their feet, incredible!

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:28:49

something funny about that ball

we need 3 goals in 20 mins hmm

Earlybird Sun 27-Jun-10 16:29:33

Am in America, and commentator here keeps commenting on how it is the young German players who are really delivering this game.

Where are the young, up and coming English players? We seem to have the same old tired faces every time.

ReneRusso Sun 27-Jun-10 16:29:55

Emile heskey? To save the day? hmm

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:29:56

so we can do it

we can do it

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 16:30:00

grin zzz

DH has given up!

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:31:23

neighbour down the road is going beserk

He was saying to me yesterday, "Shame about Engalnd, ZZZen". I said, "It's not over, till it's over"

but in truth, you know.. I kind of knew this would happen

Ghana is my last hope.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:33:04

dd just ran over to tell me: it's 4:1 for England mum.

So that's alright then

EB - that commentator is spot on.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:34:17

US had some nice looking young lads I recall. Maybe we can have a few of them.

jaffacake2 Sun 27-Jun-10 16:34:47

Im hiding behind my flag this is embarrasing!!

Earlybird Sun 27-Jun-10 16:35:18

Well.....if the game had been close, we all would have moaned about the disallowed goal.

But as the game isn't close at all, the ref's mistake can't be blamed (much) for the outcome - unless people say it completely deflated/demotivated the English team's morale.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:35:57

yeah we'll go with that one, wrecked their morale

saslou Sun 27-Jun-10 16:36:38

Think the govt should pass a law stating that the England team can only earn the average national wage until they start to provide value for money. The shame of being 4-1 down...

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:37:23

but every time they tell us what a great team we have and how they're definitely favourites

yeah and then

at least that was a reasonable attempt.

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 27-Jun-10 16:38:08

Let's face it...we are shit

DH is Syrian but all gung ho for England..I on the other hand have been rather chilled....as I tell DH its years of being let down and fucked over by refs...

compo Sun 27-Jun-10 16:39:05

Good point, we're meant to be an older wiser team
but maybe we need a younger fresher team who aren't racked with failure in past world cups grin
Rooney = most hyped up player ever

We are rather. amazing we got this far.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:39:55

it's a disgrace. i'm so deflated.
I hope they won't try and blame capello. He's been excellent. the boys didn't deliver when it mattered.

easy group = check
excellent manager = check
brilliant base = check
pre- tournament altitude training in austria = check

everything's been given to them. but they just didn't play

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 16:41:32

Do you think this will be the end for Capello though? He will be blamed regardless.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:41:55

rooney wilted underf the heat
not watching anymore. napping on sofa with ds

EB - I think there was a marked change in how much crapper we got after the unnoticed goal. Also Germans seemed to spot how slow our defence are and exploited that very well.

why are we bothering with a sub? they might as well all get off and have a cup of tea.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:43:57

I think capello is the only manager with who we stand a chance to be honest. really hope they don't change him. we've had manager after manager. the only constant is a poorly performing team

Earlybird Sun 27-Jun-10 16:44:14

Rooney wilted under the heat?? What do you mean?

It's chilly/cold there on the other side of the equator....unless you mean wilted under the heat (as in pressure of expectation)

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:45:31

PMSL at they seemed to spot how slow our defense is.

That was so difficult to spot. LOL

I blame Iceland.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:46:18

eb grin the pressure. under the lights, he slunk off into the shadows. wish he'd been subbed for algeria game

cyteen Sun 27-Jun-10 16:46:20

Injustice though the disallowed goal was, the Germans thoroughly deserve this win. They've played fantastically: a young, fresh team, playing as a team.

I honestly believe that England will never win a major tournament again. We just can't get over this sense that being England is enough, when most of the other nations around the world are actually putting the work in and, y'know, playing football.

orienteerer Sun 27-Jun-10 16:46:46

England will be off on a team building weekend nowgrin.

Earlybird Sun 27-Jun-10 16:46:48

US commentator:

'out-maneuvered, out-smarted, out-skilled'

Not good grammar, but he's correct in his assessment.

you are right cyteen

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:47:57

don't know why i allowed myself to imagine.....Germany always do better than I thought they would. always go very far

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 27-Jun-10 16:48:40

Yes Kitten...do you think the volcanic ash scuppered their lung function and so they have been playing under par???

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:49:45

they are very tough I think. Not dirty players at all but very aggressive in their approach to the game. England are fighters but not anywhere near as tough.

There's a harshness to the Gemran team, their coaches that I don't pick up on so much with other teams. It seems to do the trick.

noddyholder Sun 27-Jun-10 16:50:26

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:50:51

we could have a go at ice hockey?

ah no wait that's another toughie one

I dunno really, England always seems to lack a kind of pizzazz (however you spell it) in these WC games.

Absolutely PussinJimmy - plus clearly because of the bank crisis they've not been paid enough.

lottiejenkins Sun 27-Jun-10 16:51:43

I was in the pub, in the other bar away from the football but having to listen to it! I finished my drink and left though as i got sick and tired of the language! Im not a saint. I do swear but having to listen to one particular guy saying F....g German C...s and Kraut W.........rs was more than i could deal with!!

noddyholder Sun 27-Jun-10 16:51:51

Come on murray

we are quite good at tiddly winks as a nation.

McSteamy Sun 27-Jun-10 16:52:02

Germany to win the World Cup - my brother disagrees but my money is on them.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:52:20

"back 4 looked like they'd never seen eachother" grin alan hansen

So when are Ghana playing next?

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:55:21

I definitely wouldn't bet against germany winning. ever. they always at least go to quarters. loads of finals

franke Sun 27-Jun-10 16:55:23

There's a self-belief in the German team, that seems lacking in the England team. That's why if it had gone to penalties (yeah right), Germany would have won anyway.

ThatVikRinA22 Sun 27-Jun-10 16:55:35

i blame the octopus

and the shit manager who was signed again for another 4 years....

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 16:56:22

no idea when Ghana plays next but I think the next game is Argentina vs Mexico? Really don't know tbh and then Germany plays the winner of that game next time round.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:56:29

capello forgotten english grin

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 16:59:02

cyteen Sun 27-Jun-10 16:59:54

Oh well, as always happens with such things, now that England have been knocked out I can relax and get on with enjoying the rest of the football.

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 17:00:06

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 17:01:31

jaffacake2 Sun 27-Jun-10 17:01:50

ZZZenAgain Sun 27-Jun-10 17:01:53

you're right. friday blush

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 17:05:08

i guess i'm in too

excellent - whilst this is a miserable result - our spirit still lives on grin

The "pyschic" octopus in his tank picked Germany to win.

I think there needs now to be a long and cold hard look at the english football game. They people have a long season without a real break, the "top" players are massively overpaid and their hearts are just not in it. I feel that the England players as a whole performed woefully and if we keep playing like that we will never win the World Cup again. We don't deserve to win frankly if we play that bad.

donnie Sun 27-Jun-10 18:46:03

I agree with ctyeen as well. England just seems to have an inherent arrogance which is utterly misplaced; the players are overpaid and completely spoiled. They need to be jolted out of their cushioned world. They are indulged, courted, feted as celebrities and treated like semi-royalty when in reality all they do is play a bit of football FFS. There is no discipline and no sense of team IMO. They deserved to lose. Don't get me wrong - I wanted them to win - but they didn't deserve to.

donnie Sun 27-Jun-10 18:47:47

And immediately after the game in a interview I heard Fabio say "they played well". That from a man who gets several million quid, clearly he is paid to be a twat.

williewalshsballs Sun 27-Jun-10 18:48:52

donnie grin
I think he was just stunned by what just happened.

orienteerer Sun 27-Jun-10 20:06:34

Well I assume there's a vacancy for Fabio as the Italian Manager?

So is England team completely out of World cup then???

hmc Mon 28-Jun-10 14:39:26

It does annoy me that the first German goal was off side but was incorrectly allowed, and that the 2nd England goal was wrongly deemed not to have crossed the line - and disallowed! True full time score then 3:2 to Germany - and anyway, how that might have been different (given the psychological effect of being on the back foot) if the correct decisions had been given at the time. Accurate decisions would have meant England leading 2:1 at half time - and that would have had an impact on how both teams played in the second half.

And I don't think they were crap, could have been better, but not crap.

RunawayWife Mon 28-Jun-10 15:19:34

Why did the chicken cross the road??
It di not according to FIFA grin

Euro 2012 here wa come

ErnestTheBavarian Mon 28-Jun-10 16:06:59

Was the 1st German goal offside? linecker et al didn't say anything about that? Still, we played absolutely rubbish and are a complete embarrassment. Rooney needs his are kicking.

And FIFA need a serious re think. Surely they don't even need to introduce loads of new technology, surely the tv cameras and instant playback from a zillion different angles covers it?

Pisses me off that Argentina had a totally obvious-to-the-entire-stadium and world off side goal allowed. Blood argentinians always getting away with dodgy stuff. Is Germany meeting Argentina next? Fingers crossed the Germans stomp all over them and send them home.

hmc Mon 28-Jun-10 16:16:27

Yes Ernest - it was replayed on the news this morning and identified as off side

Raahh Mon 28-Jun-10 16:36:33

I have just read on the DM website (sorry), that Rooney shaving his chest hair is why we lost.grin Tis the Samson effect. rofl.

I don't think our players can play as a team- they are all big cheeses in their individual clubs, and seem to fail to connect. It is like a clash of egos. And once again, all the build up, focussing so much on one player, Rooney, has been misplaced. When will we learn not to do that??

Raahh Mon 28-Jun-10 16:40:59

Anyway...now i get the tv back to watch the tennis grin

mayorquimby Mon 28-Jun-10 18:33:06

It wasn't off-side no.perfectly legitimate goal.
Anyone who claims it was off-side doesn't know the laws governing football.

ErnestTheBavarian Mon 28-Jun-10 20:26:34

Well, I'm hppy to admit I don't know all the rules and can't be arced to get my head round the ooff side rule, but i do trust Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer and that gorgeous Scottish bloke with them, and none of them thought it was off side, so that's good enough for me.

Rindercella Mon 28-Jun-10 21:14:22

The first German goal wasn't offside as it came from a goal kick.

The England squad never bonded as a team and never really stepped up to the plate in the whole short tournament. Probably a couple of reasons for this: firstly, John Terry's previous shenanigans causing him to be stripped of his captaincy. I think - and his awful 'press conference' a few days ago probably confirms this - he has never quite forgiven Capello that and has subsequently caused problems within the camp. Then, you have a bunch of men who generally play against each other - week in, week out. Most other countries have players who play abroad and outside of their premier division, so when they get together as a nation is a great team bonding experience. Think about it: if you saw the England team disembarking from their coach, several of them would generally be wearing huge headphones, listening to their iPods. Not a great way to gel with your team mates.

But, the most important reason why we failed to get further in the tournament was because we were shite in 2nd half. Donnie, when Fabio said 'we played well', it was in the context of just before our 2nd (good) goal being disallowed, we were playing well. I don't think for a moment that would have changed the final result (score perhaps, but not result) but that context should be mentioned.

Imo Fabio should stay. Who else is there? Harry? I bet the press would love to dish some dirt on him when he gets a bad result. Perhaps the focus should be on a higher level than the manager. What purpose is the FA serving?

Blimey blush who knew I ever had so much to say about football?! grin

Rindercella agree re offside, didn't even cross my mind it was offside.

Also agree about Terry, don't understand why he did the press conference. Just after Anelka got sent home for speaking out of turn, he goes on international television and speaks out of turn confused. Can't bloody stand him anyhow.

Don't agree with you about the team not bonding due to them playing against each other, nearly all of the German squad play within Germany and they have a great understanding and team spirit. I think simply the English players are prima donnas, who think they are owed something. They're a team of individuals with no thought of playing for the others. How many of them took wayward shots outside the box when there was a better pass on, a player in much better position. Every single free kick was skewed at the goal not one thought of a set play. They are all selfish and I don't think all the blame should be laid with Capello, I think he should stay too. Everytime the lazy shits players fail, the manager gets blamed.

hmc Mon 28-Jun-10 22:46:26

Yes I am sure the Sports reporter on BBC news could learn a thing from you lot hmm

erm and a biscuit for you hmc

mayorquimby Mon 28-Jun-10 22:51:58

I'm a qualified referee so I think they could.
You'd be suprised how often professional pundits get the basic laws of the game wrong when discussing things like off-side etc.

mayorquimby Mon 28-Jun-10 23:17:32

although in fairness I didn't hear any pundits get that wrong yesterday, and the one commentator who did ask the question corrected himself pretty quickly and pointed out why it was legitimate.
So that only makes one I saw and if we include the BBC sports reporter 2, which isn't too bad.
The amount of incorrect statements I heard after the Mexico off-side goal was disallowed in the opening game correctly in the pub I was in, was astonishing, and this was from people who regularly play the game and watch it.

essenceofSES Tue 29-Jun-10 21:32:09

Sorry, just had to share this (stolen from a friend's FB status!):
"Oxo are bringing out a new cube. It's white with a red cross on it and it's called a laughing stock"

Sorry but I thought it was funny!

In terms of the football - I think Sepp Blatter and Fabio Capello should both resign and the England squad need to take a large chunk of the responsibilty themselves. For a bunch of supposedly so talented individuals, they know nothing about team work.

I'd love to see Becks take on an official management role with support from someone like Harry Redknapp or Roy Hodgson. I don't think that will happen though - I don't think Becks wants to go into management.

RunawayWife Tue 29-Jun-10 22:24:47

Right you lot, stop being nasty about the England team......they were tired and had not had nap time. grin

BeenBeta Wed 30-Jun-10 08:21:21

I see the newspapers are reporting this morning that Fabio Capello came back to England with the team and then immediately left the country again.

williewalshsballs Wed 30-Jun-10 13:42:33

wouldn't you beenbeta?

RockRose Wed 30-Jun-10 13:47:53

I think I would have not even bothered coming back with the team, just slunk off to italia grin

BeenBeta Wed 30-Jun-10 14:28:24

I think I would have faced the music on a guranteed salary of £6 million a year for the next 4 years.
