JollyHappyGiant Tue 03-Sep-13 12:19:56

Lovely, thanks HQ smile

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Tue 03-Sep-13 13:09:17

The gradual world take over has begun...

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 13:12:18

Ah dammit...someone has spotted our plan.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Tue 03-Sep-13 13:16:18

I see you plotting like the cats from the cravendale advert. Little bits of knitted material suddenly appearing until all of MNTowers is covered and it then starts to spread like tribbles...

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 13:28:07

It's like you can see into our HQ shock

Woolfey Tue 03-Sep-13 13:33:41

Oh hello, fancy seeing you here smile

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Tue 03-Sep-13 13:36:29

Lalalala <polishes spy camera knitting needles>

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 03-Sep-13 14:12:18

Taking over the world? Now there's an idea smile

Dutchoma Tue 03-Sep-13 14:13:33

Tribbles? Wasn't that triffids?

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 14:27:14

Star Trek, wasn't it?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Tue 03-Sep-13 14:44:52

Tribbles is Star Trek. Triffids is John Wyndham.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 03-Sep-13 14:49:19

Nibbles. I coud do with nibbles. Olives and nice things smile

HairyPotter Tue 03-Sep-13 14:56:52

Olives are just evil grapes! Can we have cheese? And naice biscuits?

I do like the new woolly home though. I will try and knit faster so I can take part more frequently. grin I still have half finished little hugs as well as a nearly finished Billies blanket and a bit of a Babette panel on the go blush

elfycat Tue 03-Sep-13 15:02:52

I'm a lurker - so I'm glad I found you (1/3 the way through my first Billies Blanket with another non-MN friend crocheting one too)

<back to lurk>

<<makes note to knit a tribble, once I finish the dalek>>

SoupDragon Tue 03-Sep-13 15:59:52

If only someone had accessorised the place with blankets.

Sheesh.

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 16:03:47

grin

Hello. A nice new bolt hole just in time for the start of term. when I can crochet without other people distracting me with trivialities like asking for food

Just finishing some going-off-to-Uni blankets for DD1's friends and then I will be back to hugging.

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 16:14:04

We need gherkins.

AnyaKnowIt Tue 03-Sep-13 16:27:55

I've started another hug. tried to buy a lovely pattern from etsy but managed to block my dp card hmm

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission Tue 03-Sep-13 16:29:22

and gin, definitely gin grin

SoupDragon Tue 03-Sep-13 16:29:42

I think I've lost a ball of "Parchment" which means I've had to put TheOldDragon's second blanket to one side and will have to start on constructing her third whilst she starts on her fifth. FFS

Did someone mention cheese?? Tis nice here, can I stay?

I have 8 balls of parchment soupy.do you want one?

SoupDragon Tue 03-Sep-13 16:38:37

Oh, I'll order some more at some point along with umpteen other items.

But I'm sure I ordered one from Deramores and had some left over from a previous ball... I have so much Stylecraft hanging about, including an unopened bag that arrived yesterday) it is embarrassing. I can't work out where it's gone. Unless I've used an entire ball crocheting a medium sized hug together and putting two rows of the border on and gave the other ball to my mum confused

Still, it's not like I don't have several other blankets to keep me busy grin

You would be doing me a favour!! I swear its breeding in my stash unit.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Tue 03-Sep-13 16:45:20

Do you ever need help stitching the blankets together? I find that bit quite therapeutic.

SoupDragon Tue 03-Sep-13 16:56:57

Perhaps mine left home to join your Parchment commune grin

grin

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 17:01:23

Our Billie's blankets, Babettes etc thread is now in this new area smile

Cheers, HQ.

Oooh this is nice! Do we have bean bags and some good lighting [blind as bat emoticon]?

JollyHappyGiant Tue 03-Sep-13 19:07:21

Mmm, cheese. And bean bags.

Happy to be here. I'm only a very small contributer so far, but once my children are a little bigger (DD is less than 2 weeks!) I shall have time to do more.

MNPlovesthesunshine Tue 03-Sep-13 19:09:09

Love the room, just needs some yarn bombing grin

Ooh, I completely forgot about this, but this isn't very far from me

I think I might try to join them!!

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 03-Sep-13 19:31:01

We can have gherkins [thumbsup]

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Sep-13 20:26:33

YY Gherkins smile

HoggyTruffle Tue 03-Sep-13 21:17:47

SoupDragon Wed 04-Sep-13 07:50:56

<<perks up>>

How about Bellinis?

MrsKwazii Wed 04-Sep-13 07:56:05

Oh the drinks trolley is most definitely boozy winkI do love a Bellini and am also partial to a Bucks Fizz - if it contains fruit juice it's a breakfast drink, right?

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission Wed 04-Sep-13 08:11:50

and one of your 5 a day surely, tis positively good for you bucks fizz wink

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Bucks fizz must be 2 of your 5 a day surely - 1 for orange juice and one for the grapes

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission Wed 04-Sep-13 08:28:14

ahhh of course!

AnyaKnowIt Wed 04-Sep-13 09:29:06

are you lot always this cheery this early confused

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 04-Sep-13 10:26:12

Perking down?

<hoot>

<wanders off with the drinks trolley>

HairyPotter Wed 04-Sep-13 11:22:19

My knitting is so wonky that even if I downed mutiple bellinis/bucks fizz, no one could tell the difference. grin

Are we doing a woolly hug for Enim? Such sad news. Ive just re read her thread about the addicted foster baby. She was truly inspirational sad

SoupDragon Wed 04-Sep-13 11:23:25

I am mostly perked down these days [sigh]

SoupDragon Wed 04-Sep-13 11:24:54

On the subject of a Hug for Emin - would it be a good/better/possible idea to send a small batch of baby blankets to her local fostering agency to go with fostered babies who have nothing?

Soupy that sounds like a lovely idea.

I have woollyone at work, woollytwo pretending to tidy her room and pack her school bag for tomorrow and woollythree off for his first day back at school for year 2.

The house is quiet and quite blissful

AnyaKnowIt Wed 04-Sep-13 13:29:59

I'll help with blankets sad.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Wed 04-Sep-13 13:58:24

Just been reading the thread in chat and EMIN's past threads. Heartbreaking, blankets for the fostering agency sounds like a lovely idea.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

sad

So many threads in this section - a woolly hug history. It's so sad that so many blankets have been needed

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

SallyBear Wed 04-Sep-13 19:28:31

I agree that some of the blanket threads are really sad, but some are amazingly inspirational. My DD was the proud recipient of a Little Hug as she had a big surgery last month. I cannot possibly express how wonderful it was to receive a box with so much love and blessings under its lid. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of my fellow MNetters. smile

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Thu 05-Sep-13 10:25:10

It's sad that so many have been needed, but it's overwhelming that so many MNetters have been involved, caring and supporting each other. Nest of vipers my arse!

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 05-Sep-13 10:57:40

My arse too

Dutchoma Thu 05-Sep-13 13:24:19

I got my yarn from Anya. It is beautiful and enough to make a shawl. I'll see if I can put a picture on my profile.

Thumbwitch Thu 05-Sep-13 15:34:31

Just been directed here by Dutchoma, re. blanket for EMIN - if anyone wants some wool to do a baby blanket for EMIN's foster agency, please let me know - or indeed, if anyone decides that EMIN's family should receive anything - I'm happy to donate wool again.

Nice new topic, btw. smile thanks

Fancy meeting you here Thumbwitch!

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 05-Sep-13 20:23:02

Evening woolly chums wine

Thank you so much everyone for all the lovely ideas for EMIN's family, on here, on FB and in messages. Bless her heart, the world is a poorer place without EMIN in it. sad

Knotty and I have been talking over the ideas, although we are somewhat hampered at this precise mo as she has lost phone and internet. We will also need to speak to EMIN's family before we can move ahead with anything, as you will understand.

We will be back very soon I hope.

Thinking of EMIN's family Xx

Ooh shines new home! I've been very slack on the hug front lately, but I'm starting a scrap knitted one. I never knit, expect this in 2020... smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 06-Sep-13 07:07:29

Looking forward to it Pig smile

Hi, I'm a newbie Woolly Hugger but I like our new special home! I want to contribute some more, just need more hours in my day..... I fancy attempting a babbette panel, they are beautiful.....

SoupDragon Fri 06-Sep-13 19:44:19

Sadly I packed my children off to their father's at 4:30.

AnyaKnowIt Fri 06-Sep-13 20:56:18

Soup. if you get bored i'll gladly send my toddler round, it'll be no problem honest!

<fetches more wine >

SoupDragon Fri 06-Sep-13 20:58:44

I couldn't possibly deprive you of all that toddler joy.

Although I have a hyperactive spaniel, to swap...

AnyaKnowIt Fri 06-Sep-13 21:01:48

Toddler joy? Also known as bedtime? grin

SoupDragon Fri 06-Sep-13 21:08:33

You wouldn't fully appreciate the peace without the hell that comes first...

PastaBeeandCheese Fri 06-Sep-13 22:24:54

It's good to know there may be something in the pipe line for EMIN. Her foster work was amazing and she sounded like such a selfless person.

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 07-Sep-13 08:20:48

Morning brew

Babette panels really are fabulous Horses - have a go! smile

That she was Pasta, bless her heart sad

<winds up Soupy's hyperactive spaniel into a frenzy and leaves>

SoupDragon Sat 07-Sep-13 08:23:03

<<listens to snoring spaniel>>

SoupDragon Sat 07-Sep-13 08:24:25

Just shout SQUIRREL! at him. He hares off to the end of the garden and back again and runs about in a circle waiting for praise. It's hilarious grin

Sadly we can't play the game in our garden as there is currently a hole in the fence and he has to be on a long line - he'd strangle himself!

Dutchoma Sat 07-Sep-13 08:50:25

Just a thought: should we ask the fostering agency that EMIN worked for what they would like? Maybe a sale to raise some money for them would be more useful than the handiwork itself?

KnottyLocks Sat 07-Sep-13 09:33:50

Thanks Oma.

We'll be talking a few options through with EMIN's family when they are ready to do so.

Morning brewbrewbrewbrewbrew[matchsticks]

Plus side, more knitting time [thumbs up]

KnottyLocks Mon 09-Sep-13 23:02:56

<stocks medicine cabinet with Pistey strength nurofen>

JollyHappyGiant Tue 10-Sep-13 06:32:54

I'm trying to master crochet in the dark. One handed. While feeding a newborn.

I think I could do it with granny squares where you're crocheting into gaps, but it doesn't work for anything trickier.

SoupDragon Tue 10-Sep-13 07:11:40

I can't crochet in the dark.
Or with one hand.
Or with a large tabby cat who is bigger than a newborn on my lap. Especially one who can not maintain his Grown Up Cat Nonchalance and ignore the moving yarn.

Dutchoma Tue 10-Sep-13 08:16:17

I so get the picture Soupy

SoupDragon Tue 10-Sep-13 09:00:56

I can see his mind working. I won't swipe it. It's only yarn. I am too mature. It is beneath my dignity. I won't swipe it... damn

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 10-Sep-13 14:02:56

A year ago today we launched our Little Hug Project, and what a year it has been, with more than 200 little blankets being made for babies and children at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow, more for children of Mumsnetters, and one for the most lovely Mumsnetter too. X

HUGE thanks to all fabulous donors and crafters who have helped make this project such a success. As you know the feedback we have had has just been amazing. Families really do feel the love and support crafted into every stitch.

So THANK YOU! May the project go from strength to strength Xx

I feel we should have cake smile I've never used the cake pic before <beams>
