Woolly Hugs: A Blanket for TrinityRhino.

(543 Posts)
KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 11:56:07

We have heard the shocking and devastating news that TrinityRhino's DP died suddenly this weekend. Very sadly, many of us will also know that Trinity tragically lost her DH four years ago. Trinity's thread is here
She and her girls are in our thoughts and we send them much love.

We've offered to make them a blanket in the hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So we are now asking for help once again thanks

Pistey (RatherBeOnThePiste) will co-ordinate and I'll be here to answer any queries you may have. We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool).
If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc.

Thank you so much thanks

The wool we are using
* James C. Brett Pure Merino DK
* Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (being discontinued, but still some around)
* Rowan Cashsoft DK
* Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
* Artesano Superwash Merino DK
* Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (new to us)

Just from these please as they are very similar and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, RKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

The Colours
Warm purples, blues, silvers and cream
If choosing cream please go for either the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 or the James Brett no 7
Green and pink but only for embellishments

Suggestions for motifs
*Fishing, fish and the sea
*Themes from nature, flowers
*A submarine, a gecko
*A teddy bear, a crocodile (for Trin's teddy bear in a crocodile suit)
*We have their initials if you would like to help with this, please PM Pistey.

thanks

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you like or follow us you'll be updated on progress via your feed. If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

When ready for posting, please PM Pistey for info.

As always, we thank you so much for your support. thanks

Knotty and Pistey

So, so sad that this blanket is needed... have lit a candle for Trinity and her girlies.

Count me in - I will see if I have yarn in the right colours.

rubycon Tue 14-May-13 12:19:44

I'm in, but so very sorry that another blanket is needed.

TacticalWheelbarrow Tue 14-May-13 12:22:37

I am a very novice knitter but would like to give this a go. When does I have to finish the squares by?

Oh poor Trinity, not again... I can't contribute as I have a big project on the go atm but my thoughts are with her and the children.

LackaDAISYcal Tue 14-May-13 12:29:38

OMG shocksad

I'm in, but wish it wasn't needed sad

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 12:31:15

Tactical, we normally set a last posting date for 3-4 weeks from now. We'll set the actual date once we know that the majority of crafters have their wool.

What tragic news sending my thoughts to her and her family.

pistey I shall pm you now.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 14-May-13 12:32:10

Such a heartwarming response already, huge thanks to everyone thanks

WhoremoaneeGrainger Tue 14-May-13 12:32:18

I would like to donate. I have no skills, but I am so sad to see this news and would like to help.

MapofTassie Tue 14-May-13 12:51:49

I'm in. Have PMd Pistey.

Primrose123 Tue 14-May-13 12:52:16

I'm sorry that we need this blanket. I'd like to make some squares, I will PM Pistey.

Saw Trinity's thread the other day sad Don't know the full back story but it seems so very very unfair.

Have PM'd Pistey. I ordered a ball of Cashmerino last night for Daisy's blanket so could split that between the two projects but will mean only one square for each I think? (still quite new to crochet and not sure how much is usual to get out a ball?) or if a donor is available I would be very very greatful.

thanks

MinnieBar Tue 14-May-13 12:53:35

Count me in sad

Ubermumsy Tue 14-May-13 12:57:25

I can't knit or crochet, but I'd like to buy some wool - will PM.

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 12:58:30

Maud, most people get 2- 3 squares from a ball if hooking. Knitters can get more depending on the stitch.

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 12:59:13

Huge thanks everyone. Your support is much appreciated. thanks

Thanks Knotty I'm sure it was DB Cashmerino I was kindly sent for Lemon's blanket and I got two squares out of that with a little left over but not enough for another square ifyswim, so would rather err on the side of caution and say I'll get two out of it again.

PurplePidjin Tue 14-May-13 13:01:21

That was nearly me at Christmas.

I'm in.

Are there any particular motifs or colours?

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 14-May-13 13:02:13

I have blue and cream donated wool via Pistey for Teamsurvival. (Which I haven't started yet.) Shall I do 2 squares for teamsurvival and 2 for TrinityRhino? Would that be OK?

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 19:06:31

That would be perfect, Ellen. thanks

Wolfcub Tue 14-May-13 19:13:59

quick question.

If we're no greens is a dark teal (db cashmerino) in or out? I think it's blue and so does dh but some might define it as green

GoldenGreen Tue 14-May-13 20:17:22

Have donated through the website x

Jacksmania Tue 14-May-13 20:46:38

Pistey,
I'm about to order more wool through Deramores (who ship fantastically fast), but shipping to Canada is quite pricey so I'd like to order more than just one or two balls of yarn, to make it worth it. I was going to order the Artesano purple (looks gorgeous), but could you recommend some other colours I should get, that are popular for blankets? For example, I read where you said that if choosing cream, to please get Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 - so that seems to be a colour we're using consistently, but I can't find it anywhere anymore sad

Is there another colour that would pretty much work in most blankets, so I could stock up a little and not pay oodles for shipping two balls of yarn each time?

Jacksmania Tue 14-May-13 20:47:23

blushblushblush

Cripes, I just read what I wrote there and I sound like the worst cheapskate blush - sorry blush

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 20:54:50

Jacks, our basic palette usually has blues. Purple and green generally appear too.

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 20:55:33

Not a cheapskate, you're being practical. smile Postage is horrendous.

LewisFan Tue 14-May-13 20:58:18

where can we get these new wools from?

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 21:00:51

Yarn Box have been in touch.

They are offering a discount to Mumsnet Woolly Hugs crafters.

Artesano Superwash DK(one of our suggested blanket wools) is available in all colours on their website for £4.25 a ball.

Discount code MNWH will give our knitters or donors another 10% off until the end of July.

Thank you, Yarn Box!

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 21:01:46

Sublime at Deramores

LewisFan Tue 14-May-13 21:02:35

oh fabulous Yarn Box

JammyDodger1 Tue 14-May-13 21:03:15

So really sad, have donated through paypal, and my thoughts are with Trinity

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 21:03:33

Sublime at Black Sheep Cheaper!

Jacksmania Tue 14-May-13 21:03:45

Hm, I wonder how much their shipping is, maybe I'll order from them. Ok, purple, greens and blues it is smile

Do you have any thoughts on which brand of yarn/shade of beige you're going to start using when Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 isn't available anymore?

Pancakeflipper Tue 14-May-13 21:04:39

Got my needles at the ready... for some slow knitting. PM'ing you Pistey.

Loads of love Trinty and your gang xxxx

KnottyLocks Tue 14-May-13 21:07:49

I'm sorry, I've gorn and interfered again - I had a thought that maybe a cow would make Trin smile, you remember her thread about her DP and her arguing over whether a dead washed up cow on the beach was finders' keepers and could they eat it? - and I asked her if a cow on the blanket would make her smile and she said yes, it would.

So if anyone can manage a cow... thanks and sorry!

Lets go for it then Thumb!

BIWI Wed 15-May-13 15:18:03

Troublemaker, Thumb! grin

thanks streakybacon

You are all stars thanks

Donors do remember, if you would like us to send on a card to Trinity and her family from you, you have all the info in a PM or email from me. Crafters send cards along with their squares if they wish to.

We are sending cards earlier now, they will go soon after the close of a project, so about three or four weeks from now.

So please think and send if you would like to X

Sincere thanks to all again thanks thanks thanks thanks

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 15-May-13 19:22:33

Thumb I've PM'd you asking if it would be OK to stitch MOO! on one of my squares 'cos I didn't know the story behind the cow thing!

TacticalWheelbarrow Wed 15-May-13 19:29:57

My wool and needles should be arriving tomorrow so I can start smile

I'm really worried mine are going to be crap and I will be blush when looking at everyone else's amazing work!

Evening all.
Just catching up.

KnottyLocks Wed 15-May-13 19:33:37

Tactical! Listen good....

'Simple squares are good. Simple squares are essential'

Tis true smile

A square made with love is the most important thing.

TacticalWheelbarrow Wed 15-May-13 19:52:23

knotty you might change your mind when you get my squares through grin

How long do we have until we need to post them?
I can't believe all the hard work you ladies put into this, I was on the wooly hugs website and had a warm fuzzy feeling smile

How many squares do you usually receive out of interest?

KnottyLocks Wed 15-May-13 20:02:59

We haven't set a last posting date but it's generally 3 to 4 weeks after we start the project.

The number of squares varies from project to project. Once the Woolly Hug is made, any additional squares go towards the fundraiser blankets.

TacticalWheelbarrow Wed 15-May-13 20:08:32

Ok thanks for the info, I will start tomorrow smile

So sorry for Trinity and her family.

I'll do a square, but could do with donor wool if possible. I'll pm.

VirginiaPosh Wed 15-May-13 20:37:34

So shocked to hear Trinity's sad news, much love to all the family xx

I can't knit or crochet so I've made a donation via paypal through the

link on the Woolly Hugs website.

I would love to join this project, I cant afford any wool at the moment but if anyone wants to send me some I can make some squares, they will be quite basic as I am just a beginer.

KnottyLocks Wed 15-May-13 20:49:29

Dita, PM Pistey. She'll sort you out. A simple garter stitch square is very snuggly in these wools .

KnottyLocks Wed 15-May-13 20:50:31

Currently laid low with bug but will be up to my fighting knitting weight soon and will crack on.

So sad to have three blankets on the go.

My donor wool has arrived. thanks to my lovely donor and Pistey for arranging it

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 10:21:40

Morning brew

Good news MBJ, really hoping to hear of lots of woolly arrivals today, thanks to our lovely donors thanks

Thanks Terrys - let us know thanks

Pancakeflipper Thu 16-May-13 11:51:19

Ooh my wool has arrived.

It's gorgeous. Lovely donor thank you. Not knitted in this colour before ( actually I don't know colour it is - I would say grey but that does not do it justice. A very Farrow and Ball colour).

Off to find needles and decide what to do.

PurplePidjin Thu 16-May-13 12:02:17

I have gorgeous woolly wool. Thank you Pistey and donors! thanks

Some lovely blue and silver wool arrived today from Pistey, thanks very much!

HoggyTruffle Thu 16-May-13 15:00:27

I'm a bit late to this but would like to contribute. It's just so sad to see there have been 3 families recently in need of a Woolly Hug. Will PM.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 16:12:14

Good to hear that woolly wool is arriving with crafters, thanks to the donors again.

Hoggy thanks I am just coming to PMs now, thank you.

thanks

Gigaflops Thu 16-May-13 16:17:46

Wool has arrived - thank you to the lovely donor, it's a gorgeous purple... I'll get started tonight. Still can't believe we're doing this again... hmm

I have started with the James Brett. Although its not as squishy as the DB cashmerino, I'm not finding it splitty, but I have a habit of snipping the first 6" of a ball off and I noticed that had unraveled a bit. Maybe worth thinking about snipping off the first wee bit, might avoid some of the issues some of you are having.

Jacksmania Thu 16-May-13 17:19:13

Ugh. I'm sorry - I am under so much time pressure the next two weeks, before we're flying to Ontario for a family wedding and to see my parents, that I think I'm only going to get through my other ball of apple green wool. I haven't had much luck finding the required yarns in my local shops, although I imagine if I order online it will get here really quickly --- but it's finding the time to turn it into something useful!!

Knotty and Pistey, if I only manage to send six squares (three pale blue and three apple green), would you be able to use them for all three current blankets? I really want to add something to Trinity's blanket - could you maybe reserve one of my blue squares for hers? Or I have enough pale blue yarn left to do a flower...

Sorry I'm being so feeble, things here are just so darn busy right now sad

Jacks <strokes hair> calm down have a brew I'm sure 6 squares will be plenty.

Can I help you with yarn? I could buy it here and post it (depending on charges) to you. Might work out cheaper and quicker for you, and save you time having to scroll through the Internet to find the right ones.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 17:57:21

Jacks, Jacks, Jacks. smile Please don't fret like this X Send the squares, we will split them so you have something in each of the three.

Not feeble, busy, tis very different!

KnottyLocks Thu 16-May-13 18:39:49

Jacks <stern>

Don't make me come over there. Your squares will be most marvellous and we'll share them over the blankets.

Have pm'd but not sure how successful it was.
Beautiful purple wool arrived today. Thank you to my lovely donor thanks
I shall crack on once the kids are asleep <fingers and toes crossed>

Thinking of Trinity in this awful time sad

gonerogue Thu 16-May-13 18:50:29

I'll make a few squares for Trinity's blanket. PM on it's way to Pistey.

tribpot Thu 16-May-13 19:07:17

Chillax, Jacks. (Rhyme intentional). Six is plenty!

TerrysNo2 Thu 16-May-13 19:32:56

I have lots of wool but no idea what they are, mainly cottons and Stan weight so I don't think I have any of those wools. IIRC I posted back the remnants of my last wool with the last square I did.

I can go to my local wool shop tomorrow but they don't have many wools. If they don't have any can I get some donor wool instead?

TerrysNo2 Thu 16-May-13 19:33:13

Stan = aran!!

schooldidi Thu 16-May-13 19:39:33

Hi, sorry I've missed this thread for the past couple of days, work has been manically busy this week.

Do we have a last posting date for this one yet? I can get some more wool on Saturday.

HairyPotter Thu 16-May-13 20:16:23

Evening Woollies brew

Do we have a new cream yet? I need to order some today or tomorrow and always like a ball or two in my stash.

Hairy, Pistey sent me some James Brett Pure Merino cream. The label is torn, though, so I can't see a colour code. Pistey will know.

KnottyLocks Thu 16-May-13 23:16:32

Hairy, the James Brett cream is in the Op but we've added a new one to the list. Will find the colour code in the morning, if that's ok.
Apologies - been a busy workday here.

Jacksmania Thu 16-May-13 23:22:33

blush
Thanks all - sorry I was in such an arse-freezing panic this morning. I tend to get a bit anxious when I can't super-perform to my own expectations blush which are usually ridiculous.

I will send my six squares (when I get through the green wool) and a flower for Trin's blanket, that's the best I can do right now.

Glaikit - you are a love. I really appreciate the offer and the hair stroking. I'm having one of those days when kindness makes me feel like crying so I must have needed it blush

Will be curious to see what the new cream colour is going to be - I think I'll buy a bunch of that so I always have a "safe" colour in stock.

thanks to all of you.
xx

Jacksmania Thu 16-May-13 23:26:23

Just another quick question - when you pick the new "stock" cream yarn, would you still take squares made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013?

Because there is a yarn shop in Toronto near where my mum lives that still sells it - but only in packs of 10. It seems a bit pricey CDN $9.79 per ball, which comes to GBP 6.30 - or is that reasonable for this yarn? Again, not trying to be cheap - just wanting to get good value.

Oh yes, the colour code for the James Brett cream is 7. Should have read the OP!

The Deramores price for Drbbie Bliss is £5.50/ball, Jacks.

Offer still stands Jacks! smile

Jacksmania Fri 17-May-13 01:02:29

Oh ok, so that's not that much more. Good to know. Maybe I'll pick up a package of ten while I'm at Mum's - if we're still going to be using it.

Glaikit - hmmm... how much would postage be to either Toronto or Vancouver?

Based on sending 5x50g balls £4.50 or 10 x50g balls £7.20 and considering pistey sent me 2 balls within the uk for £3 shock and I parcel I wanted to sed 150 miles away cost me nearly £6 that's not bad!

Why am I still up????

Jacksmania Fri 17-May-13 02:57:31

I don't know, why? grin

Ok - I would love that - thank you thanksthanksthanks

TheRealMBJ Fri 17-May-13 08:03:51

Just a quick question. Is the DB Rialto Ecru the same shade as the Cashmerino 013?

KnottyLocks Fri 17-May-13 08:15:13

Morning all.

The DB Ecru isn't quite the same - it's creamier , but close enough for us to use, so that's the cream we're adding to the list. Tis Debbie Bliss Rialto DK Ecru 02.

Currently just over £4 a ball at Hejhog and Woolly Badger.

KnottyLocks Fri 17-May-13 08:17:00

That's obv Wise Badger, not Woolly. smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 17-May-13 09:34:46

although a Woolly Badger would be quite cute

Right, I've finished all my squares and will get to a post office next week. I've got 2 for teamsurvival, 2 for Trinity and some for a little hug, and have completely run out of wool. <satisfied sigh>

Strange profile problem, any new photos are overwriting the old ones, but I've put my 2 for Trinity on.

My donor wool has arrived and it's gorgeous!! thanks x

I'd like to thank the lovely doner who's beautiful yarn arrived today. thanks

Well thanks to my peri menopausal insomnia I have finished all my squares without resorting to neglecting my children I have got to sew in all the loose ends but should be posting everything on Friday.

There's a hug for Yorkhill, some Stylecraft squares and a square each for the blankets for Daisy, TeamSurvival and Trinity. I found a cow pattern for Trinity's square and dusted off my knitting needles specially.

I have wool left over so I'll pop that in the parcel too, to go back in the stash.

Will posting on Friday mean I miss the deadline for Yorkhill?

i think Yorkhill's deadline is the same deadline - last posting 25th
i think

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 22-May-13 16:53:18

Woolly - you are doing just fine, bless you, last posting for Yorkhill is Saturday. They are coming to collect next Wednesday, and I just need to put a label on and pack them up. thanks

Hopefully all the info is in Knotty's OP. Do PM if I can help in any way. Thank you.

Do I just buy the wool myself? In any colour?

KnottyLocks Wed 22-May-13 21:44:20

Flipflopper, the colours we are using and types of wool are listed in my OP at the top of this thread. There are also some online suppliers listed who stock the wool.

Feel free to ask more questions if you need to.

flipflopper Wed 22-May-13 22:06:52

TerrysNo2 Thu 23-May-13 20:05:37

anyone know how many crochets it takes to make a 6 inch square? just about to cast on!

Jacksmania Thu 23-May-13 22:09:01

I just posted my squares for Daisy's blanket, and TS's... now eagerly awaiting the woolly treasure the lovely wonderful fabulous Glaikit has posted to me smile smile smile
Am hoping it arrives before next Weds, so I can take it with me, and post it from my mum's in Toronto... 5000 km closer to the UK so should hopefully arrive faster than from here hmm.

KnottyLocks Thu 23-May-13 22:30:14

Terrys, I normally need 25 ch plus the 2 or 3 before the first HTr or Tr.

KnottyLocks Thu 23-May-13 22:31:11

That' s very 25ish btw smile

I've just done a square and made 27 chain to start giving me a foundation row of 25 trebles (3 turning chain and 24 trebles to be completely accurate) smile

TerrysNo2 Thu 23-May-13 22:44:33

I did 21 fdc's to start but it was only 5 inches as it didn't get any bigger after the chain but I just added a DC row both sides at the end, it looks quite good, a knobbly bobbly people crochet square grin

TerrysNo2 Thu 23-May-13 22:44:56

Apologies, been a mad day. Am just coming to PMs now. Fingers crossed everything works!

Lovely to see you Trinity.
Looking forward to seeing the seagull Soupy! grin I have 3D bluetit and dove patterns if they will help<no help at all...>

TrinityRhino Fri 24-May-13 19:15:35

Wolfcub Fri 24-May-13 20:24:15

SoupDragon Fri 24-May-13 20:58:08

Trinity, I've made far worse! grin

KnottyLocks Fri 24-May-13 21:00:28

Trin, worry not. You're not putting pressure on Soupy.

We are though!

The woman wields that hook like a majestic lightsabre.

SoupDragon Fri 24-May-13 21:35:54

In my head, it's already done. I just hope it translates properly into fact!

LewisFan Fri 24-May-13 22:42:44

mikeysmail and bethintx on youtube are good for crochet squares

Thumbwitch Sat 25-May-13 05:57:31

Great Gecko, Soupy! Good luck with the seagull-on-the-head ;)

Glad the wool arrived to DWM safely - looking forward to seeing what she produces with it, she's brilliant! smile thanks

In fact, you all are. thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 25-May-13 06:58:10

Morning brew [geckos]

Tis fab Soupy!

SoupDragon Sat 25-May-13 07:20:09

I see there is mention of a bear. In a crocodile suit...
bear I can do...
I have green... hmmmm

Woolfey Sat 25-May-13 11:36:48

Blimey Soupy you are brave posting that! You know you'll have to do it now don't you?
I was wondering how I could embroider it and the only thing I could come up with was a half teddy half crocodile monster type thing so I sensibly decided against it smile

SoupDragon Sat 25-May-13 11:59:13

I can definitely do a bear. It should be just a matter of doing it in green except the face and... er... um... add a snout and teeth hmm

At the very least there can be a bear coloured bear anyway grin

yeay! to a Cliff seagull head grin

I keep thinking you guys are talking abut gecko soup. Tis very confusing! Now I'm imagining terrifying crocobears and heads being stolen by mutant seagulls!

This blanket is so different (in a good way) to the others! Love it!

SoupDragon Sat 25-May-13 18:01:10

I've smiled at gecko soup too smile

TerrysNo2 Sat 25-May-13 19:07:53

can someone tell me the first initials of trinity and the girls? I know C already

Crocodile square done, I've also done another silver and purple square. Just waiting to be paid this coming week, and then it will be winging it way to you Pistey.

OpheliaBumps Sun 26-May-13 23:00:19

I've only just seen this thread, poor poor Trin and the girls, just heartbreaking.

Have pm'd pistey, will knit whatever motifs are still needed.

Woolly treasure arrived at my house yesterday - four balls of gorgeous sublime yarn, courtesy of the wonderful GlaikitFizzog smile thanks

And well in time for our departure to Ontario tomorrow, so I can bring my crochet hook and have some quiet happy moments and post Trin's squares (and I'm going to try for some flowers) off on or before June 10th.

thanksthanksthanks*Glaikit*thanksthanksthanks

Jacksmania Thu 30-May-13 00:36:32

I should clarify that while the yarn is indeed sublime, it is actually by Sublime, which I have not, for the bloody life of me, been able to find here. So Glaikit kindly offered to help me out by posting me some.

I'm still trying to find Debbie Bliss, and Sublime, and Rowan yarns here locally - frustrating, because having talked to some avid local hookers grin they all agree that they're common brands, but everyone's drawing a blank at where to buy them.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 30-May-13 16:18:14

Aww thanks Fizzy X thanks

I should be ready to start on my squares for this blanket over the weekend, just wanted to check if there's a preferred green for geckos etc?

SoupDragon Thu 30-May-13 22:13:17

Trinity, it doesn't sound crazy at all. You know that every square was made with you and your family in mind and is filled with love.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 30-May-13 22:23:19

Not crazy at all lovely.

Thinking of you Trinity, big hugs Xx

Evening wooly huggers!

Did I read somewhere that the deadline was 10th June?

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 01-Jun-13 20:49:03

Yes you did lovely, thank you X

MOSagain Sat 01-Jun-13 20:52:33

Pistey are you colour blind or am I? X

MOS, what colours did you think they were? wink

MOSagain Sun 02-Jun-13 08:21:29

Purple and cream, definitely purple :-)

PurpleFrog Sun 02-Jun-13 09:33:06

It wasn't Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Shade 37 purple was it? Pistey described my square for a previous blanket done in that shade to be pink! grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 02-Jun-13 09:57:38

Yes! Tis!! grin

Amethyst innit? I'll go with pinky purple or purply pink, how's that?!

<flees>

Poor pistey, its difficult to tell colours apart when looking through the bottom of a Gin bottle!

Hello. I'm back from my holiday with some knitted/crocheted goodies just waiting to have ends sewn in before putting on my profile. I have my purple/silver cow square, a gecko, starfish, 2 fishes and some seaweed so far...

MOSagain Sun 02-Jun-13 16:26:32

grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Mon 03-Jun-13 09:16:00

Morning everyone.
I remember reading on other threads that attaching things like beads, sequins and buttons wasn't a good idea. I think it was partly a weight issue and partly a bad idea when there were babies/ small children in the family and there were finger catching/ scratching concerns.
I have some very small metal buttons shaped like fish and some bugle beads I've been thinking of adding to one of my squares.
Will take your advice though if you think they'll be a pain.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 03-Jun-13 10:21:51

Bless you, BBB, thank you for thinking to check, they sound lovely and as long as not too many will be fine, thank you thanks

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Mon 03-Jun-13 12:58:47

Oh great,thanks Pistey.
Whether I can execute it satisfactorily is another thing. Don't want the back to look a mess and want the bugle beads to look like bubbles not poo!

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 03-Jun-13 19:13:43

it'll be lovely I just know it X

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 04-Jun-13 17:19:08

I would like o report that I appear to have figured out the granny square grin grin grin

<pats self on back>

At least I have done one and it looks quite nice, I think blush.

I am going to attempt another today, in contrasting colours, and then a flower or two. Should easily be able to mail on Monday the 10th. And since I'll be mailing them from Toronto instead of Vancouver, they shouldn't be quite as tired as the last batch grin

Fizzy, the Sublime yarn is just gorgeous. I love how it feels. I think it's my new favourite, which is good news because I believe it is actually available somewhere local to me. thanks, you are so lovely!

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 05-Jun-13 20:12:56

Oh well done Jacks X smile <proud>

Jacksmania Wed 05-Jun-13 21:35:07

Two granny squares done - both in light blue and dark blue, but one more light blue and the other more dark, so they're the same but opposite, if that makes sense. And two sweet little flowers that turned out rather well, for a novice / well, sort of novice [impressed with self emoticon].

Will post tomorrow smile

Well done Jacks! Pics would good!

Jacksmania Wed 05-Jun-13 21:54:38

Ok... just for you. Gimme a sec grin

Jacksmania Wed 05-Jun-13 22:01:28

Ermmm... WTF? Where has the "My Mumsnet" thing gone, I can't figure out how to get into my profile from the desktop site to add a picture confused.

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 05-Jun-13 22:07:10

Tis all bonkers Jacks.

PMs very weird too. wine

Hang on, I'll get the link, I saved it earlier!

Jacksmania Wed 05-Jun-13 22:09:38

Crikey, yes. I'm trying to sneak in via FAQs. Will update on progress.

Alternatively there is a link on a thread in site stuff. The sticky at the top

blondieminx Wed 05-Jun-13 22:15:15

Just seen this - am I too late to sign up?

So sad for Trinity, there are just no words sad

*deep breath*

I'd like to have a go at hooking a square this time rather than donating wool. I've said that out loud now haven't I?! Eeek.

Jacksmania Wed 05-Jun-13 22:27:56

Blondie!!!!!! Hello darling!!!! <mwah>

Ok, pic should be on profile now but - again - WTF, it's replaced all my pictures with the one of the squares I've done confused

So my bragging yoga pics are invisible blush

Fizzy and Blondie, since I have you on my FB you can see them, but now I can't impress Knotty or Pistey or anyone else angry [grrrrrr]

blondieminx Wed 05-Jun-13 22:33:10

Hiya Jacks that's what I call a welcome! grin <air kisses then adds a squishy hug> I confess to the terrible sin of not RTFT... It was a v quick post while I spotted this in active convo's...

Your yoga pics are amazing haha! On the iPhone ATM (old app!) so can't see wooly pics but will do next time I'm logged into a proper pooter!

<<end of derail!>>

I think tech is working on a fix! They will be back!

Btw jacks, I've signed up for a yoga class, starts next week! I'm so not bendy it's a disgrace, she might throw me out! I'll practice ohm-ing!

Jacksmania Wed 05-Jun-13 23:04:27

I'm still not very bendy. Chaos always calls me "my bendy friend" and I always say I'm stronger than I am bendy, although I'm getting better every year. Yoga rocks. Not in a freaky hippy-dippy way grin

Blondie grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 05-Jun-13 23:24:20

Posted 2 squares this afternoon.
Have since had more ideas and wish I'd incorporated Cliff's hat sad

Your squares are great Jacks and the yoga descriptions are even better left to the imagination! grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 06-Jun-13 07:01:47

Morning brew smile

Off to look at Jacks pics and hunt down if I have any PMs <rolls eyes Tech's way>

blondieminx Thu 06-Jun-13 20:58:22

Thanks Pistey gulp that means i'd better order some wool eh!

Jacksmania Thu 06-Jun-13 22:22:46

Pistey, I found a yarn shop here in Toronto that stocks a lot of the yarns we use - including the sadly discontinued Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK! If I stock up on some, is it ok to use it for blankets? Or are you switching away from it entirely? I especially wanted to check about the shade of beige (013?) because they sell a 10-pack of it. I would hate to buy 10 balls of it and find we're not using it any longer.

Or would I be safer to buy Sublime or Rowan?

Jacksmania Thu 06-Jun-13 22:27:53

Oh, and I posted my squares today smile
They should be with you within 10 days.

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 07-Jun-13 07:23:56

Morning smile brew brew brew brew brew brew brew brew brew brew brew brew brew smile

We will be using the DB cashmerino DK until it runs out Jacks, tis a real shame it has been discontinued as it's such a lovely woolly wool, having said that, just used the Rialto and that is as lovely. The 013 cream is very similar to the Rialto cream and JB cream, so no reason not to stock up, and it is a core colour. Three of my face colours are DB cash DK - apple, mauve (warmer purple than it sounds) and denim sad

Sadly the Rowan is being discontinued too sad

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 07-Jun-13 07:24:20

and thank you for the squares smile thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 07-Jun-13 07:25:31

Jacksmania Sat 08-Jun-13 13:41:10

Ha Fizzy, don't count on it - I may need you again when this runs out grin

is the last posting day on monday?

i've finished one square, but not trinity's.

oh god, i hope i get it finished on time sad

blondieminx Sat 08-Jun-13 16:18:31

When is the last posting date? My wool is being dispatched today but I need to hook it yet!

I guess I'll be doing a crochet commute!

blondieminx Sat 08-Jun-13 16:20:29

If my woolly wool arrives on Monday I'll be able to post on Thursday (it will only be plain though - I need to learn how to do patterns/designs!) smile

plain is good.
plain is essential smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 10-Jun-13 07:44:25

Last posting is indeed today smile

Blondie hopefully your woolly wool will arrive today, and see how you get on with it, PM when you are ready for posting. Unique, fret not, just make and PM when you are ready too thanks

<gets in a tizz with parcel tape> I am posting today. DS keeps trying to put his toys in the parcel! So there may be something extra!

PiggyPlumPie Mon 10-Jun-13 13:15:38

I'm posting today too when I get round to sewing those pesky ends in.

It is a very boring moss stitch square - I had high hopes for a fancy schmancy two colour square but just couldn't get it to knit up 6 inches wide!!!

I tried so many times and eventually gave up last night in disgust!!

I know plain squares are good but I wanted to do something different!

<stamps feet and sticks out bottom lip>

<whispers>
thank you - she's asleep and i've put her in the pram (that normally wakes her up so fingers crossed)

yeah, she's woken up.
so now she's on my shoulder because that's the only way she'll sleep.
i got one half row done ....

i'll pass her over to DH at lunch and have a go then.
damn Busy Bees!

valiumredhead Mon 10-Jun-13 13:42:41

Goodness only knows how I missed this and I can't add to trinity's original thread, so would just like to offer my sympathies to her and her family thanks x

SoupDragon Mon 10-Jun-13 14:44:50

I am an idiot... Brought my parcel of squares for all three current Hugs on the school run but left my purse at home!

Argh, soupy! That's the kind of thing I do!

I went to a different PO today because we were that side of town. Lets its dpsay we won't be going back, DS pulled a whole shelf of mouse and rat traps (it wasn't the nice end of town) down. Mortified! Still all my knits are winging their woolly way to you Pistey!

Trumpton Mon 10-Jun-13 15:35:00

Hope to get mine in post tomorrow. DD was not well yesterday and I have DGCs today . Smallest is refusing to sleep and is squealing at me from her jumperoo ! Will knit frantically tonight once I have them both in bed. Deep purple squares by the way. One with a celtic triskele , one plain.

SoupDragon Mon 10-Jun-13 15:38:10

Be careful when you open Glaikit's parcel, Pistey, it may have a mousetrap in it! grin

Yeay! I finished it!

Both squares finished, kissed and wrapped.
DH will try to remember to post them on his morning break tomorrow. smile

blondieminx Mon 10-Jun-13 20:14:37

I had an email on Saturday saying wool had been dispatched... Today's post brought a hospital appt and an NCT magazine but no wool <sigh> sad

Catmint Mon 10-Jun-13 21:03:14

I had a look at the Woolly Hugs website, which brought me to tears. A quick question, who decides how the squares will go together, and who actually joins them up?

Thanks.

Pistey and knotty (forgive me there is someone else but I can't think who, pidj maybe) hook the blankets together. I think they all have their own ways of putting them together. Some are random, some laid out symmetrically by colour, all are works of art IMHO!

SoupDragon Tue 11-Jun-13 07:35:59

Pidj has certainly done them in the past

blizy Tue 11-Jun-13 13:32:55

I forgot to go,to,the postie yesterday but my squares were posted this morning, imhopemthey arrive safely. X

OpheliaBumps Tue 11-Jun-13 13:37:27

My squares should have arrived today.

I was on the woolly hugs site last night looking for some pattern inspiration for my next mini hug, and I was saddened to see how many MN blankets we've made, just over a couple of years. So sad that we've needed to make so many, I do hope they offer some help to the recipients.

JulesJules Tue 11-Jun-13 18:39:13

I lost this thread and only just found it again, nothing to do with the wine ...

Where should I send my squares?

thanks

Pm Pistey jules, she will send you the info. grin

JulesJules Wed 12-Jun-13 10:13:43

Halfway to the post office yesterday afternoon, in the rain, I realised it was Wednesday. And thus early closing. FFS.

In case you missed the story trin Jacks lives in Canada and has struggled to get the right yarns and when she did find them they worked out quite expensive. So, I indulged my woolly hoarding and shopping passion and sent some to her from Scotland. smile

Morning Pistey! Got caught up in stuff but am readyish to post. I could post today but you wouldn't get my fish, or I can post tomorrow with it. Tis a silver 3D one which I need to stuff and pop an eye on.

Pancakeflipper Thu 13-Jun-13 08:21:40
