The continuing story of how Team Woolly Hugs does running. All newcomers very welcome!

Our first fabulous runner, PiggyPlumPie has been there, done that and quite literally has the tshirt (gorgeous btw) and we are looking forward to more runs taking place round the country, and further afield maybe? <Looks at our International Blanketeers smile>

We are doing this to support the Billie's Blanket Project being run by the Woolly Hugs community, see here This project was launched as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday. In Billie's name, and through World Child Cancer we will send little blankets to children who are suffering from cancer, and who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after. Our first batch has already gone to Malawi, the next will go to Ghana and Bangladesh.

We are helping raise funds so that alongside Billie's Blankets, we can send a donation to World Child Cancer. Money is so scarce, they really have so little. There will be other fundraising events this year, but we are RUNNING!

These are where the 5K runs will takeplace, they are all over. But even if you run round the block and someone sponsors you to do so, it all counts!

Our Just Giving Page is here. Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in. At this moment we are up to £1,116.33, where will be be when this thread is full?!

Enter established events soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you are running so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things, the support here is awesome and we love Piggy's idea of tying a woolly bracelet on to run, then we are all with you as you go. smile

MNWoollyHugs on Facebook - come and find us, you can still remain anonymous smile

For novices....Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

* Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles. <we have a done risk assessment>

* Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.

* Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.

* Open front door and go outside.

* Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support.

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

first thread is here

Enormous success was had, there is more to come!

5madthings Sun 28-Apr-13 13:36:06

Checks in, very apt as am just back from a run, literally dripping and red as a beetroot, soooo attractive! 8km in 55mins. Really warm and windy, i had some good views on my run as there was a cycling event, lots of lycra clad bums and thighs grin

My note to myself...remember to take inhaler when i run and maybe it would be a good idea had i had some bfast as i realised i felt rather hungry...havent eaten since 6pm last night duhhh!

Mouseface Sun 28-Apr-13 13:42:08

I donated last night to the wonderful cause and the gorgeous Billie.

As you know I'm broken so can't run but I could use my walking frame or stick to do a bit of hobbling? I'm want to get a sponsored 'round the village' lap organised if that's okay? What do I need to do to set it up and is there a time frame in place for me to do it by?

Can you advise please lovely Pistey? And can I still have a Wolly Bracelet™ please? smile xxx

Mouseface Sun 28-Apr-13 13:42:39

Or a Woolly Bracelet™ even!! grin

MrsDeVere Sun 28-Apr-13 13:42:56

Checking in.
Will be aiming to be up the gym every morning this week.

Cos I am no where near up to 5mad's standard of training and I can't let the young whippersnapper beat me can I? ;)

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 28-Apr-13 13:44:52

Mousey - I will so proud to sponsor you, and I will make you a wolly bracelet!

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 28-Apr-13 13:45:02

smile

Checking in too. Just back from taking my bike to get fixed (no lycra here 5mad!).

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 28-Apr-13 13:45:58

Lovely Mousey, no time frame. Our last organised run that we know of is when I go with the very lovely BIWI and Frank in October

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 28-Apr-13 13:53:15

To set it up, I would say decide what you want to achieve, and when, link it to your FB, advertise to family and friends and in that I include us obv! Link everyone to our Just Giving page

And we will cheer you on, and a photo afterwards is fab. You don't have to out yourself, it could just be a general picture, and we wouldn't put your actual name on FB anyway. All money goes to the most amazing cause in beautiful Billie's name. Really special. X

5madthings Sun 28-Apr-13 14:04:59

Arf at young wipper snapper grin

Dp informs me the cyclists i saw were from a local velo...club? Or something... They were looking very toned in their lycra, i dont look quite so good in my running kit or when i am cycling with a toddler in tow.

I have cooled down now, was trying to do some stretches but when i do the two little madthings seem to think i become the perfect climbing frame. They do look funny trying to copy tho so i can forgive them their overenthusiastic clambering on me...but toddler elbows and boobs dont mix!

KnottyLocks Sun 28-Apr-13 14:31:12

Checking in with me pompoms smile

Mousey, let us know how we can help. You little treasure smile

Mouseface Sun 28-Apr-13 15:03:06

Will do, I have just told DH and he said "why not, you're always saying Pay It Forward" so that's what I'm doing, my little boy is still here, he'll be four whole years old on Thursday so as a huge thank you to The Powers That Be, I'm going to do this for Billie xxxxx

I'll use my Mouseface pic from FB smile

(I might need help with all the linking stuff you said about but will get myself organised as to how far, where and when I'm going to shuffle off to and let you know smile )

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 28-Apr-13 15:06:28

Bless your heart Mousey you are a star, love to you and all your family X

We can help with all linking, not a prob. Hooray for the latest member of Team Woolly Hugs X

Thank yoooooooooouuuuuuuu!!

MegBusset Sun 28-Apr-13 16:09:27

Hello runners and hobblers grin

Got up at 7am on Saturday to run 5k before breakfast then went to London and undid all my good work with too much food and wine

5mad well done on your run, did you stop to walk at all or just run straight through?

5madthings Sun 28-Apr-13 16:17:48

I had three one min walk breaks as it was the wk ten run and them ran through the cool down at then end.

My legs feel slightly achey now!

Well done for getting up early on sat, i often think about getting up for an early morning run but i am sooo not a morning person.

Dp now has a week off work so i dont have to try and juggle running with his shifts i do have to try not to throttle him if he continues being a grumpy git as he has been the past two days

I may get up take boys to school and then go for a shorter run tomorrow morning...

MOSagain Sun 28-Apr-13 16:22:21

ooh, meant to sign up for this ages ago but never got round to it. So its not too late? <panics!> Pistey is it the 12th or 13th you are doing? Will sign up myself and DD if still places

PiggyPlumPie Sun 28-Apr-13 19:27:04

What a fabulous total!! Think I am going to look for another run because i am just loving this!

5madthings Sun 28-Apr-13 19:32:22

It is a fabulous total!

Go piggy I am looking at runs for sept/Oct so I have another goal after the 10k in may.

What's the consensus BTW on running consecutive days, is it best to take a day off inbetween runs? Did 8k today and was thinking of running tomorrow but slightly achey this eve so maybe should have tomorrow off and run Tuesday?

Otherworld Sun 28-Apr-13 22:20:28

Just checking in to the lovely new thread.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 29-Apr-13 10:25:30

I'm thinking our next Woolly run is the Manchester 10K, am I right? Then the London 10K the next day all at the end of May?

hawthornthree Mon 29-Apr-13 10:44:15

I just wanted to say well done to you all and what a brilliant cause and a wonderful way to support other children in Billie's name. I hope you don't mind me sharing my own efforts - we are setting up a charity to fund the best cancer immunotherapy research internationally - cancer immunotherapy works in much the same way vaccines do, ie, they train the body's immune cells to recognise specific and multiple cancer antigens on the surface of cancer cells - so that the body can eradicate cancer in the same way as it does a virus or bacteria. Prof Carl June has had amazing results with adults and children with advanced and refractory leukaemia,[both with CLL and ALL] and you can read about his success here
We hope this will one day be a standard treatment for children in whom other treatments have failed.
Though Novartis have now come onboard to sponsor Prof June's work [after many years struggling for funds] many other academic research scientists in the immunotherapy field, looking at immunotherapy for a wide range of solid tumours, still struggle for funds. We are working towards registered status at the moment [have to raise a certain amount of money first] and have consulted research scientists in the field about coming on board as part of the decision panel when we are in a position to award research grants. At the moment, if anyone was interested, it would be great if you could look at our FB page, where there is more info and research links, and click like if you can! [btw I have been here since 2005 just under various guises!] www.facebook.com/CancerImmunotherapyFund

Other cancer research charities do fund immunotherapy research, but only as part of wider remit and often only basic research, so we felt, after much research of our own, that a charity solely to award grants for cancer immunotherapy research, is needed. World Child cancer is crucial in supporting children in developing countries with cancer, we just hope for a time when cancer in children [and adults] can be controlled long term and one day, perhaps even cured. Sorry for lengthy post!

Best of luck to the runners.

hawthornthree Mon 29-Apr-13 10:45:52

btw Prof June's work is not like a vaccine in the sense that he takes the body's own immune cells, engineers them to recognise a cancer antigen, multiplies them in the lab, and then re injects them into the patient. he has had amazing success with this.

KnottyLocks Mon 29-Apr-13 23:28:12

Aww, thanks for popping in, Hawthorn. We really appreciate it. thanks
Will pop across and have a look at your project, bless you.

oi! Runners!

I'm sure you'll be all chuffed and only a bit frit that my master plan for costumes is coming together grin

5madthings Mon 29-Apr-13 23:34:06

Costumes?!!...

I have set my alarm for 6am so i can get up and run before school run etc. I have a busy day tomorrow so if i dont run in the morning i wont feel like it by the evening. I am NOT a morning person so not sure how succesful my attempt at getting up at 6am will be... But i can try snd then feel extra smug if i manage it!

MegBusset Mon 29-Apr-13 23:43:01

6am shock Good luck with that!! I do like running first thing though.

Did w10 r2 today smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 30-Apr-13 06:34:50

Well I wonder if you are running right now?

smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 30-Apr-13 06:38:13

Thanks Hawthorn. thanks

Right. Two things.....

What date is the Manchester 10K? smile

And

Where's my BIWI? sad

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 30-Apr-13 06:39:56

Three things.

And...

Lovely to see you on here Knotty. grin arf at costumes!

KnottyLocks Tue 30-Apr-13 07:22:21

<taps nose>

hawthornthree Tue 30-Apr-13 16:13:46

smile Thanks guys! I didn't intend to hijack but kind of did unintentionally sorry about that grin Best of luck with the running!

Costumes?

<runs away>

KnottyLocks Tue 30-Apr-13 18:10:52

It's like she knows I'll never catch her.

PiggyPlumPie Tue 30-Apr-13 18:12:23

I wish I was running with you - I love wearing costumes!!!

KnottyLocks Tue 30-Apr-13 18:15:58

You haven't seen it yet grin

I've just been out in my orange vest, purple running trousers and pink trainers. A costume might look better than that combo grin

KnottyLocks Tue 30-Apr-13 19:22:44

Your 'costume' will go with that combo beautifully grin

shock

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 30-Apr-13 20:07:16

KnottyLocks Tue 30-Apr-13 20:53:47

<beams>

BIWI Tue 30-Apr-13 22:35:00

<rushes in>

I'm here grin

I have had a two week break from running, having managed one week 9/30 minute run, because my shins were just too sore, and I was really worried about shin splints.

But I'm going to go out for another run tomorrow. Hopefully the two week break won't impact on my fitness levels, and I'll still be able to do the 30 minutes.

Now. About these costumes ...

Welcome back BIWI! Hope your run goes well tomorrow.

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 01-May-13 06:45:53

oh REALLY hope it goes well BIWI, I shall keep everything crossed
<keels over>

rubycon Wed 01-May-13 07:55:56

you'll all look spiffing - photos mandatory of course smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 01-May-13 09:28:07

Leave that to me Ruby smile

Now what I want is to find an International Blanketeer who will run for us, for Billie and for World Child Cancer, to make our running event global <reaches for the stars> We have plenty of internationals, but do we know if any of them run?

<ponders>

BIWI Wed 01-May-13 15:31:29

Managed the 30 minutes, and I ran it faster than the last one! Managed 4.85K in 30.42 minutes, at a pace of 6.20 - which means I should be able to run 5K in 31 minutes.

I'm very pleased about that. Just hope that the shins are OK. I'm doing lots of stretches which I'm hoping will help.

EasilyBored Wed 01-May-13 16:58:22

Hello all!
Well done Piggy! I'll be so chuffed if I can do it in the same time.

Training going well here, though have taken up netball too so must be careful not to injure myself.

Whispers... Since this is all gping so well, would anyone be interested in doing something next year? Notorious Night Run or a half mudder? I'm thinking Dirty Woolly Huggers as a team for an event?

Just a thought. I'm having a bit of Oh God I'm 30 next year crisis and must Do All TheSports!

5madthings Wed 01-May-13 17:09:58

Netball?!! Ha ha at you having a midlife
crisis grin i need to see photos of this netball playing easily

And what is this night run or half mudder?!!

EasilyBored Wed 01-May-13 17:14:58

I know. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Haven't played since school, and even then I didn't play very well!

Can't link as on phone, just google.

5madthings Wed 01-May-13 17:20:49

See i have learnt to do links on my phone (smug) ignores the fact it took me months and tutorial from my thirteen year old to get it eventually

I shall be off out for a run this evening and then i may well need one tomorrow and fri and sat as mil is visiting....

EasilyBored Wed 01-May-13 17:27:54

Well I'm stuck on a tram and some guy just grabbed my boob by mistake (tram is packed, think he was groping for a hand rail). So no links.

BIWI Thu 02-May-13 18:25:50

I'm very glad to report that manic stretching seems to have resulted in no shin pain.

Yay! grin

I'm not going to push it by going for my next run tomorrow, but I'll probably try and go on Saturday. Then I will have completed the C25K!

[amazed and gobsmacked]

KnottyLocks Thu 02-May-13 18:28:16

How manic exactly?!

Bravo, BIWI smile

5madthings Thu 02-May-13 18:52:25

Yay for no shin pain grin

I have done a 6km run today and it was shite, i planned on doing 8km but just felt crap, not physically tired but not right, sort of worn out? And i got a stitch, i have a niggly sore throat and feel like i could curl up with a duvet on the sofa and go to sleep. Only mil is here... Depending how i feel.i shall go for a short run tomorrow and then do a longer run on sunday.

Hope your boob has recovered from its groping easily

Bravo BIWI, well done for making it to the end!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling great 5mad and that you have MIL visiting

So, London 10K Woolies, the good news is I have tested out the route grin. It is lovely and flat apart from a small incline near Blackfriars Bridge, and another one by Westminster Bridge. But what goes up must come down smile. It's a very pretty route - or was this afternoon in the sunshine - along the river and past St Paul's. I didn't start and finish right on The Mall (I was working just off Trafalgar Square today) so didn't quite do the whole distance, but got round in an hour and 10 ish, including walking bits, stopping to check map and waiting for traffic lights to change.

BIWI Thu 02-May-13 20:20:24

Goodness. That almost made me want to run 10K. Almost. Easy at the back there.

MrsDeVere Thu 02-May-13 20:24:19

I did a few km (not many) at the gym today.
Then came home and went to bed.

So not the best training day.

ah well.

I can always walk fast..

5madthings Thu 02-May-13 20:28:37

I am snuggled on the sofa with a duvet and mug of tea, dp.is entertaining his mother and putting the kids to bed and cleaning up ftom dinner -- i am pretty sure i can see the horror in mils thought process, she thinks dp is hard done by as he actually does stuff around the house/with the kids so the fact he is doing everythinh whilst i do nothing will be frying her brain --

Glad the run is relatively flat, walk/run we will get round and then have a drink after grin

((Mrsdevere)))

MegBusset Thu 02-May-13 21:50:29

I am actually getting quite excited about the run now smile

Did week 10 run 3 today, was fine. 3 x 17 mins next week!

PiggyPlumPie Thu 02-May-13 22:01:36

I'm not having you lot running a flat route!!!

Can you stop at St Paul's and run up the stairs - right to the top mind, not just the Gallery bit - and back down again?

That makes it comparable to my mountain!

5madthings Thu 02-May-13 22:05:39

Ha ha I am massively relieved it is flat, but you will essentially be the winner of the woollyhugs runners by default as you had hills! grin

meg I did week 10 run 2 earlier this week and was going to just skip wk ten run three but after today's crap run i think I will do wk ten run three on Sunday and then start wk 11 next week.

Going to head to bed soin and either squeeze Ina short run to borrow morning or go min the afternoon/evening depending on how I feel.

grin Piggy. You are definitely the leader of the Woolly Hugs pack!

Feel better soon 5mad. I'm park running tomorrow, feeling a bit stiff today after yesterday's run. I made DH drive us to the station this morning as I couldn't face the 1 mile bike ride/walk - cue much tutting about the environment/waste of petrol etc grin.

5madthings Fri 03-May-13 19:23:52

I do feel better today, still got a sore throat but had a productive time shopping and got a new shock absorber runninh bra and some other running bits smile

Is there a magic technique for doing up the plastic catch at the back of my bra? I can do the normal bit up fine but then higher up at the top between my shoulder blades it has a funny plastic bit to do up. Was a pita in the changing room but once on it is very comy, no bounce etc so happy with it just may end up recruiting dp or a madthing to do up the catch at the back!

I didn't realise that my bra had a top catch for ages blush. I keep it done up and just fasten/unfasten the bottom one to get it on and off.

5madthings Fri 03-May-13 22:00:25

Hmm i dont know if i can get it over my head with the top catch done up... But i shall try!

5madthings Fri 03-May-13 22:03:20

www.shockabsorber.co.uk/en/products/ultimate-range/ultimate-run-bra/

I got this one in.black, they didnt have the purple one in my size, infact it was quite hard to find one in my size as i have a small chest measurement and a big cup size.

That's the same as mine smile

MegBusset Sat 04-May-13 08:31:51

Got up at 6.30 and did week 11 run 1 before breakfast shock

i have a blister though!!

5madthings Sat 04-May-13 09:17:06

I often think i might get up and do an early morning run but i am soooo not a morning person!

How was wk 11 meg ?

MegBusset Sat 04-May-13 09:51:21

I was awake anyway and thought I might as well. Now I can eat DS2's birthday cake without guilt smile

It was fine. No harder than W10, just took longer!

shock meg well done on your early start.

I had every intention of biking to the park run this morning, but it was drizzling as I left so I chickened out and drove - I tried to run extra fast when I got there to make up for it smile. Happy birthday to your ds2, commiserations on the blister.

You feeling better 5mad?

5madthings Sat 04-May-13 19:44:20

8.5km in 56mins woohoo after my last crap run that was really good and felt fine.

My new bra is fab and thankyou for the over the head tip as that worked perfectly. Feeling really chuffed now and burnt over 650 calories to make up for the party food i had earlier...i blame meg for the party food tho!

Glad that you are not trapped for eternity in your bra 5mad grin.

Well done on your run - great time!

EasilyBored Sat 04-May-13 20:37:33

Well done on the run 5mad and yeay fornew bra. I have one that goes over my normal bra and does up with six fastening hooks on the front.

My run today was crap. I'm in agony after netball, my shins, ankles and calves are throbbing and I had to keep stopping. The first part of my run is up a massive hill and I wheezed my way up in one go today. It's bloody hilly in Manchester. Also have inlaws visiting this weekend, feel like they might as well move on. And they fed my child cake ten minutes before bed. Am grumpy tonight in case you didn't notice.

5madthings Sat 04-May-13 20:49:37

I feel your inlaw pain easily as i have had mil visiting, she left this eve but if she had made one more comment re me 'not looking after her boy well enough' or the fact that i dont dress merryn in enough pink and why havent i bought her a pink potty or even worse when she told merryn not to.play with dinosaurs as they are horrible and insisted on steering her towards all things 'girly' fgs she is two.let her play with what she wants and last time i checked dp was 36 and capable of looking after himself...aghhh

Hope your netball aches go away soon!

Otherworld Sat 04-May-13 21:12:48

Hello fellow woollies.

I braved my first parkrun this morning since last Nov! I can't believe it's been that long. Number 11 grin

VotePedroPony Sat 04-May-13 21:34:49

Hello woolly people! <waves>
I cant run for toffee but would so love to contribute. Are you still looking for blankets? Crochet involves sitting still and wine That i can do grin

KnottyLocks Sun 05-May-13 00:27:00

Yes we are, Vote smile

On phone so no linky. Look for Billie's blankets in Arts and Crafts.

Will pop back in the morning x

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 05-May-13 08:14:07

Thanks Vote wine smile

Here you go

thanks

EarnestDullard Sun 05-May-13 11:54:33

Sorry, lost track of this thread! Just back from a 5.5 mile run. The first 3 miles were brilliant, the last couple were a bit of a slog. Probably due to a half mile or so of incline at the 3ish mile point. Glad to hear the 10k route is fairly flat!

Ooh, and I crocheted last night for the first time since I was about 10. So now I'm a double threat, running and crocheting grin

P.S. Does anyone else turn a fetching shade of beetroot when running? Even worse in the warmer weather.

5madthings Sun 05-May-13 12:05:41

earnest i too end up looking like a beetroot, its such an attractive look....

You know you're in DOTD ?
Quite right too.

Thanks for putting that bit in your OP about running round the block Knotty and Pistey - I might just manage that - with a fair wind in my sails !

I'm too lazy to run but I've donated, good luck everyone! thanks

5madthings Sun 05-May-13 20:36:01

DOTD ah discussions of the day... It took me a minute to get that...

I have running injury well not an injury as such but its caused by running. The other day i got an odd blister on my toe right on my nail bed iyswim? Anyway it didnt hurt so i left it alone. The blister has gone but the fluid in the blister went under the nail and lifted my toe nail up from the nail bed. Again no pain but i noticed today that the nail has died and half of it, going straight doen the middle had lifted up and was very snaggy so i had to cut it off before i caught it and pulled the whole nail off. It doesnt hurt at all just looks gross not having toe nail where you should. I shall protect it with a plaster when i run but it seems fine. My mum assures me it will grow back and is quite common in runners... See i have an official running condition so i must be a legitimate runner grin

Wk 11 run one tomorrow, plan to get up and go running at 7-7:30 before it gets too warm.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine smile

RatherBeOnThePisteIsASoftTouch Mon 06-May-13 07:01:16

<faints>

RatherBeOnThePisteIsASoftTouch Mon 06-May-13 07:03:49

Ah yes, I changed my name, tis to do with folk posting squares on the wrong side of the deadline. I change it back grin

Mouseface Mon 06-May-13 10:58:35

Hello lovelies smile

I am getting organised now that Nemo's birthday and DLA renewal are done and dusted!

So, as far as I know, I need to -

1) - Set up a Just Giving Page.

2) - Decide a time, date and destination/route/venue organised.

3) - Advertise it in the village everywhere!

4) - I'm going to get a t-shirt printed up with WCC, Billie's first name on

5) - Link everything to FB, MN and the world.

6) - Set a minimum target because it will give me something to work towards even more!

7) - Erm........................... what else???? grin

BIWI Mon 06-May-13 11:45:24

Managed my first 5K today! Very pleased with myself and not a little impressed I have to say.

5madthings Mon 06-May-13 12:05:35

Well done biwi grin its a great feeling isnt it?!

I am just in from wk11 run one. 9km in an hour and three mins! Felt like hard work at times but that was because it was hot i think. I shall do my next run at a cooler time of day.

mouse i used a company called kustom clothing to get my top printed, they were really lovely i spoke to them explaining the run etc and what i wanted on it and they emailed me with a print out of the design etc and were so helpful and lovely. I will put the link up later if you want?

Right i need a ahower....

Mouseface Mon 06-May-13 12:09:59

Yes please Mad xx smile

Do I need my own Just Giving page or a link to the Woolly Hugs one? If my friends and family are going to sponsor me, is it better to have my own page and then I pay the money to the WH page? Or to WCC?

I am so crap at this sort of thing, I need a step by step Mouse proof guide on how to set it all up! grin

Sorry, I know you're all busy etc blush xx

5madthings Mon 06-May-13 12:19:28

I am.just sharing the woolyhugs just giving page. But i emailed the lovely katie at world child cancer and she sent me some paper sponsorship forms as well as not everyone i know is online etc and it means i can ask nicely harass mums on school run and toddler groups etc. I find physically waving a sponsorship form.under their nose helps!

5madthings Mon 06-May-13 12:22:43

www.kustom-clothing.co.uk/Charity-running-vests/

Here you go this is the company i used. They were so helpful, they do all different designs and colours and ars happy to do one off designs. They very helpfully measured their running vests so i knew what size to order due to large boob issues! I got a running vest but they do t-shirts etc as well smile

RatherBeOnThePisteIsASoftTouch Mon 06-May-13 12:44:27

Mousey. Am on my phone so do bear with me..

If you can we'd love you to share our Just Giving page as we've always seen this as a big community effort, and also WCC are talking about doing a thing with MrsDV about the Billies Blankets and our fundraising.

But the most important thing is that WCC benefit and we'd completely understand if you didn't feel you wanted to mix MN and RL. I can happily talk you through setting up your own JG page so money goes directly to WCC

The other thing is I have iron on transfers that you print at home. All v easy. Had to do something for DD. so if you wanted to just buy a t shirt we could do you a design that way?

You are an absolute star Mousey. Xx

Mouseface Mon 06-May-13 13:42:20

Pistey - I'll share the same page, that's fine smile

And yes please to the iron on things, I have asked expat if I can include Aillidh's name on my t-shirt too. I know what I want it to say,

"I'm Hobbling With A Woolly Hug, In Aid Of World Child Cancer And In Loving Memory Of Billie and Aillidh."

but I'm waiting to hear back from her.

I am more than happy to do paper forms for those who aren't online too, I had thought of that, just not how to do it Mad, can you please post me one and I'll photocopy it? Can I PM you my address?

I'm not bothered about MN and FB linking re my real life identity as I'm the same on both and most people know me as Mouse anyway!! grin

So, I need to set a date, find out the distance and then set up a page, yes? xx

5madthings Mon 06-May-13 13:46:08

Yep that's fine, my post office has a photocopier so I can get copies if you like? Its double sided so I may have to get the lady in the post office to help me do it properly blush I have one in use at the moment and the other for when the first one gets filled up smile

I appear to have caught the sun when out for my run and have a rather hot forehead...

Mouseface Mon 06-May-13 14:33:54

grin bless you and your burnt fod Mad grin

I just need the one, I don't pay for copies, the school will do me them smile

I'll pm you my address now, thank you lovely xxxx

MegBusset Mon 06-May-13 17:48:19

I was at the beach for four hours then came home and did w11 r2 so rather glowing of face myself!

Gosh you are all good. I did park run on Saturday (a minute slower than my PB), and have been busy all weekend but haven't managed another run. Hopefully tomorrow.

KnottyLocks Mon 06-May-13 19:15:35

Checking in from my 1mile walk to a BBQ and back. No burnt bits but freckles are coming out of hibernation.

Mousey, been thinking about your hobble. I feel you simply must have woolly embellishments for your walking gear. Am creatively thunking smile

Mouseface Tue 07-May-13 12:28:19

Afternoon, tis me, Mouse

Okay..... so, DH reckons the 'circuit' is 2.5 miles which takes him and hour to walk it with the dog. It's all flat apart from a bit of a hilly bit in the road but I am not going to estimate a time, I'm just going to say "Please sponsor me to complete this circuit in aid of..............." and tell people who don;t know me why it's going to take me much longer.

Does it have to be in May?

If so, I'm looking at Friday 31st of May, in the morning when Nemo is at preschool. That gives me 3.5 clear hours to 'walk' it. Otherwise, I'd like another couple of weeks to drum up more support as such, so then would be looking at Friday 14th of June, again, giving me 3.5 clear hours.

Now all I need to do is set everything up once someone has said which date is better please <looks at Pistey> grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 07-May-13 12:49:58

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 07-May-13 12:52:13

It doesn't have to be May my lovely Mouse friend. BIWI, Frankie and I are doing our thing in October. Tis a year long fundraise, so any time is good, really the best time for you is the best time for us.

You are a star! Xx

Mouseface Tue 07-May-13 13:59:48

Okay, I'll look at a later date and also it's 2.9 miles, DH has just re-checked the distance so the longer I have, the better smile

Will sort a definite date this week and then get my arse into gear, thanks Pistey xx

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 08-May-13 22:28:41

We shall cheer you on lovely Mouse smile sadly you are a loooong way from me or I would actually come in person X

Well I haven't posted here for ages because I lost the thread

But.....I ran 5k in 27.48 today. Yes. 5k

Ds1 ran it in 19.34 but we won't worry about that.

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 08-May-13 22:49:59

Tantrums!

You bloody star!!

Laminated training programme?

Big Tick grin

So bloomin proud of you!

Thank you blush

The laminated plan worked, I can run. And, I have discovered, I actually quite like it.

I think by October, I might even have a hope of keeping up with ds1 grin

BIWI Thu 09-May-13 00:19:56

Did I just write that? What has happened to me?

5madthings Thu 09-May-13 07:19:07

Whispers tantrums i actually feel all bouncy and energised and smiley... I am normally half dead until after a cup.of tea and a fag in the morning... This feeling awake and chipper in the morning is a bit scary! grin the madthings are bemused by my cheerfulness!

It's good isn't it 5mad?

I never thought I'd be jumping out of bed at 6am to run, but I feel so much better when I do.

5madthings Thu 09-May-13 07:44:35

I know i may actually do the same tomorrow, poor dp thought he was having a wierd dream when i got up and said i was going for a run!

BIWI Thu 09-May-13 08:51:02

There will be no racing grin

I just want to know I did it. Without falling over, or making a idiot of myself.

Ds1 is going for a world record time or some nonsense.

Mouseface Thu 09-May-13 18:00:19

Tantrums - I am envy envy envy of you!! As for your DS? I'm ignoring that epic time grin

I love MN.

Well done 5mad too! You two are fab, I love early mornings for good reasons, mine tend to be because Nemo needs me and they can start from 12am! Fancy a run then? wink

I have to say that I miss jogging/running and getting up sans DC go out and just, well, be smile

Just so you know Pistey and Knotty and others who know my conditions and are like "Shit Mouse you absolute head case, are you bat shit bonkers? You shouldn't be doing this at all....." grin

I'm off to the see my lovely GP on 17th May and I'm going to tell him what I am planning to do. I've been walking up and down the swimming pool with a float so that I can build a bit of strength up ready for the big day which is going to be ..................

<technophobe> grin

Also, I have people who will need the paper copy, most of my and DH's parents! grin So will let you know when that arrive 5mad smile

Mouseface Fri 10-May-13 14:21:52

Erm, yes, you are helping. hmm grin

So, I just C&P the JG page URL at the top of the page and put it onto my FB page?

How do people donate to me, how do I know who has donated to me? Does that make any sense at all? I'm crap at these things!! grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 10-May-13 14:28:18

Cut and paste yes.

People actually donate to the group collection, so you can always ask them to tag you in their donation message?

Mouseface Fri 10-May-13 14:28:21

Can you link it all to your Twitter page too?

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 10-May-13 14:29:37

yes, copy the link in the same way

[thumbs up]

5madthings Fri 10-May-13 14:44:59

I have been sharing the just giving page and then have my pape sponsor forms. I shall keep taking the form along with me the next two weeks and try and bump the amount up some more grin

Mouseface Fri 10-May-13 15:20:11

Pistey - are you going to put my FB profile pic (of the mouse) on the JG page and that's how they tag me?

<wonders when Pistey will block her on MN, FB and in life!> grin

Mouseface Fri 10-May-13 15:22:18

I got out of bed at 6.45am to do week 12 run 1... had to cut it short 2/3 of the way round as I erm needed the loo rather urgently blush I was at the furthest point of my route from home when it happened, and tried to stop at my local health club which is on my route but it wasn't open yet so I had to stop running and briskly take the shortest way home...

Better luck next time!

5madthings Sat 11-May-13 23:24:47

shock after our discussions on 'runners trots' you didn't do what real runners do and go in a bush! grin

I didn't go today as it was rainy, will run tomorrow tho smile better luck next time meg!

MegBusset Sat 11-May-13 23:29:22

Mouseface Sun 12-May-13 11:15:06

Morning, tis me, Mouse

Meg - bless you! grin at least you made it home x

Thank you 5mad xx

Knotty - I was thinking of having this ""Ever seen a Mouse do a sponsored hobble? [insert pic of Mouse from my fb profile] Well today you have! For World Child Cancer, Woolly Hugs, and Billie"

What do you think? I was going to include Aillidh but having had no reply from expat, I don't want to 'assume'

So, what do you have in mind Knotty my love? xx

<imagines full on woolly mouse suit> grin

I'm going to set up my JG stuff tomorrow afternoon, we're at hospital in the morning with Nemo for the results of his genetics tests <massive gulp> so he's off school, which means it'll take me a while and I might need some more frickin help, actually, I might do it later?

That would make sense if you are around given the other potential project we could have on sad <sniffs>

Are you gorgeous lot here today? smile xx

MrsDeVere Mon 13-May-13 11:36:55

Hello all.
I don't know what to do.
I have been ill on and off for about four weeks. I have not been running since a short one last Monday.

I have been really poorly over the weekend. The race is coming up very soon and I don't know if I will be able do anything this week.
That only gives me a week to catch up.
What do I do?
This is for MY daughter.
I have to run.

I just want to cry. Things are so horrible atm.

What shall I do?

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 13-May-13 11:58:41

Firstly, big hug my lovely.

So sorry you are unwell, hope you are much better soon X

Totally understand, but don't worry, there is no pressure to run. If it comes to it Frank and I will walk the 10K with you. We will get you to the end X

5madthings Mon 13-May-13 12:05:18

We will walk, jog, cajoule and drag you along if you want lovely, whatever you want, hell.put some skates on or stand on a skateboard and i will pull you along grin tho i suspect that might be against the rules...

5madthings Mon 13-May-13 12:06:15

Xxxx (((mrsdevere))) xxx what pistey said xxx

MrsDeVere Mon 13-May-13 12:07:26

I feel such a sap.
If I pick up this week I might be able to walk/run
I just wanted to do well.

I am going to be like one of those weirdos in emu suits bringing up the rear when everyone has gone home.

I will miss all the gin <wail>

5madthings Mon 13-May-13 12:11:40

You will be doing well by doing it and i promise we will make sure there is gin at the end for you!

quite like the idea of you running in an emu suit

Otherworld Mon 13-May-13 12:18:15

Hi all - just marking my place and letting you know I'm still here.

And just a little wave to all the people I've been telling about my Southampton Big Fun Run for Woolly Hugs - I'm busy outing myself in RL as a MNer. Think a name-change and back to obscurity is in order once this run is done. Hopefully some money will come as a result so it's worth it.

MrsDeVere Mon 13-May-13 12:22:21

I am not well so a bit wussy atm
and its making me all cry-ee

all this loveliness and running and stuff.

5madthings Mon 13-May-13 12:28:48

Sends squeezes and hugs to mrsdevere btw i was looking at butterfly hair clips the other day, was going to get some to wear in my hair when i run for Billie smile xx

Whatever you need lovely we will do xxx

You have inspired me to do this and get fit and i am actually enjoying running something i never thought i would say. Xxx

BIWI Mon 13-May-13 12:38:41

Aw, MrsDeVere - so sorry to hear that you're not well.

You will do it, you know you will! And with the lovely Pistey and her Krew there, wafting gin under your nose, you're bound to get round quickly.

Don't panic, and please don't put yourself under that amount of pressure.

xxx

EarnestDullard Mon 13-May-13 14:57:40

£1200+ on the JustGiving page and all those beautiful Billie's Blankets. MrsDV, you've done so much already. If you're not up to running, everyone will understand. But if you want to do it, if you're determined to do it, we'll be there to walk round with you, or carry you if needs be smile

MrsDeVere Mon 13-May-13 15:38:54

I did a 5k on crutches once. I woke up that morning and my right leg didnt work.

I thought 'yay, now I can wear make up' . It was a good day smile

I am sure (touch wood, oh please) I will be better by the race day. I just don't think I will be fit.

And I really wanted to do well sad

Thanks everyone. I really am a drippy Dora atm.

Awwww MrsDV. Big hugs. Hope you feel better soon xxx

We'll look after you whatever it takes.

KnottyLocks Mon 13-May-13 21:41:56

Hey MrsDV, look at what's been achieved so far. Amazing already.

Would the promise of a Smirnoff ice or 5 at the finish line help??

Big hugs, lovely x

Mouseface Mon 13-May-13 22:48:43

Hey all

MrsDe - mwahs x 1,000,000 to you. I'm sorry that you are suffering, not nice sad xx

You don't have to be fit, you just have to be there, you can be pulled along as others have said, surely someone can stick some wheels on a sofa? grin Don't worry, you will do it, you'll find away because you are an amazing and wonderful lady smile xx

Sorry, I've still not sorted myself out - we've been in Manchester all day at St. Mary's Genetics dept.

We were hoping for some long awaited blood results for Nemo but alas "they were lost" FFS. They managed to get saliva which was a minor miracle and fab so here's hoping.

However, they managed to get a decent saliva swab from my scared little boy.

They stripped him down to his nappy, examined him and looked at his back, which he's said it hurts him for some time. DH said he was copying me and of course that is feasible but I knew there was more to it because it was all of the time. I knew there was more to it.

Turns out he has asymmetrical shoulder blades, rather severely as it happens and a curve in his spine, plus a shorter than normal distance between his lower skull/base of his neck and his shoulders. We don't know what that means yet. But I am NOT GOOGLING!!

But he's been ace, a real little super star. Sorry to not read back properly and catch up but it's been a heck of a day and I'm shattered, he's only just gone off to sleep...... over excited with his present (Cars 2 Micro Drifters Race track) for which the bloody cars cost a Squillianton pounds from some places and the rest are duplicates! Grr.

Anywho, will be back in the morning xxx

MrsDeVere Tue 14-May-13 09:32:54

Dear little Nemo smile such a brave boy.

I'm still in bed feeling Like a fool. Just bloody sod off stupid illness.

Mouseface Tue 14-May-13 09:38:57

5madthings Tue 14-May-13 12:39:03

Afternoon, hope you are feeling a little better mrsdevere

mouseface that sounds like a hard day xxx

I shall be going for a run later today, but mainly popped in to say my top for the run has arrived smile i shall pop a pic of it on fb and link to the woollyhugs page and the just giving page smile

MrsD I hope you are feeling better.
And it doesn't matter whether you walk, run or crawl round the actual race.
We are all proud of you. And you and Billie have inspired lots and lots of people to do something.

This thread and your story and wanted to do something, anything, to help has had me actually running. I can't quite believe it myself.
My ds1 has a mission in life now grin
He reckons that will both run the bloody marathon next year to raise money for World Child cancer if we can

And I ran 5k in 25.47 today grin

So, feel better soon. And me and ds1 will come and carry you round the race if we have to grin

MegBusset Tue 14-May-13 16:17:13

MrsDV hope you feeling a bit better, and Mouseface hope Nemo is too smile

Tantrums that is a great time and you are v brave to go for the marathon!

More shin pain here. <sighs> I think I'll have to go to see the osteopath/sports doctor to check out properly what's going on/what I should be doing.

Mouseface Wed 15-May-13 10:42:55

BIWI - sounds like shin splints? OUCHY!!! Sorry you're in so much pain, they are awful x

Today is the day I'm going to sort my JG pages out and my links etc.... it's admin day.

DH is not around at all until later, so I'm solo for most of the day, I have to get me furry butt into gear NOW!! Whilst MiniMouse and Nemo are at school.

Hope you're all okay xx

Well done Tantrums smile xx

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 15-May-13 11:10:28

Soz BIWI, that really is frustrating for you sad I think you definitely should go X

Tantrums that's a fantastic time!

BIWI - ouch! Sounds like you need to see someone.

Waves to Team Woolly and grabs Energysportsdrink from pistey. DH had his knee op yesterday morning. The op itself went OK but he had a horrible reaction to the anaesthetic/pain killers and was really poorly with them. Couldn't even keep water down, and therefore couldn't pass any (the nurses seemed more worried about his inability to pee than the sickness). I was with him until they kicked me out at 10.30 last night and am about to go back.

MrsDeVere Wed 15-May-13 11:33:40

In awe of you wonderful athletes. You do me proud, you really do.

I am feeling a bit better today <cautious>

I am hopeful that I will be able to at least walk round the course now. Yesterday I thought you would have to push me.

Who knows, I might be able to manage a bit of a jog and get round before everyone has gone home.

Fingers crossed.

MrsDeVere Wed 15-May-13 11:34:50

Neither I hope OH is much better today.
BIWI sad poorly legs.

I still feel tired but hoping a run will wake me up a bit....its windy as fuck tho so not looking forward to that but sure i will feel better once i have been...

Glad you are feeling bit better mrsdevere xxx

5madthings Wed 15-May-13 12:17:25

Mouseface Wed 15-May-13 16:42:45

Hey lovelies

I have contacted WCC and they are sending me a pack out, I'm working on my FB post and making sure I get the links right. I get to wear a bright orange T-shirt but deffo want Woolly Hugs splattered all over the place! That and a pic of my Mouse, I'm having a think....

This is what I'm going to post on FB, is it okay?

" I am going to do my sponsored hobble/shuffle on FRIDAY JUNE 21st. It's 2.9 miles (door to door) and I'll be doing it in aid of WORLD CHILD CANCER and the most fabulous WOOLLY HUGS

PLEASE HELP AND MAKE A DONATION. Read the link below and you'll see what a real difference these organisations make. I don't normally do things like this, and as most of you know, I'm disabled so this is going to be a real achievement for me, and yes, I know it's going to hurt like hell afterwards!

But these are children and families of children touched by cancer and loss. Even £1.00 helps. Just One Pound.

If you do kindly give via the JustGiving page linked, can you please add a message to 'Mouseface' letting me know who you are and how much you've donated so that I can thank you from the bottom of my heart and also, keep a separate total.

Thank you dear friends, so very much xxxxx "

Anything need changing? smile xx

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 15-May-13 16:46:57

That looks really great Mousey, you star X

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 15-May-13 16:47:41

Link to Twitter too won't you?

Mouseface Wed 15-May-13 17:27:04

Sure will gorgeous, sure will. Gonna do it all once Nemo is in bed, I'm just helping Trinity out with something that needs doing now, so need him distracted, Disney Cars 2 on DVD!! grin

<excellent parent badge falls off>

But nope, I won't forget Twitter, I promise smile xxx

Mouseface Wed 15-May-13 17:33:29

Can I link my FB page with the full message on, to my twitter page so that they can read it all? Does that make sense? If I C&P mu FB URL onto my Twitter page, technically, my 69 blush followers should see it, right?

<hangs head in shame at having so few followers>

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 15-May-13 18:15:14

Well I Have done that on Woolly Hugs twitter. I think. blush

Mouseface Wed 15-May-13 19:05:57

Coolio, two technophobes should be able to spread the word? grin xx

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 09:02:18

Mousey - what's your Twitter name? I'll follow/retweet you.

Off to see the osteopath today. She treats shin splints so will be able to tell me a) if I have them b) what to do about them. The good news is that she thinks the (rather spectacular) bruising I have on my left shin is unlikely to be related to shin splints, and is probably coincidental. (Although I'd like to think I'd remember what I did that resulted in this bruise!) don't say anything about gin consumption

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 09:58:52

Ooo then she'll have 70 grin

I think I follow you Mousey as me, but I never seem to get on Twitter anymore. And I use too many words in life to be able to get on with it. Lovely MrsKwazii says that's all part of the fun, and that you get the hang of it, but I haven't yet. <downcast>

BIWI - hoping today is helpful for your poor shins X

<trying desperately to avoid mentioning gin>

MrsDeVere Thu 16-May-13 10:47:56

Well I HAVE to do it now don't I? Little Mousey is putting me to shame.
Is it alright if I write something on my vest like 'I'm not lazy, I've been poorly'

so everyone who passes me doesn't judge me too harshly blush

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 11:11:26

grin MrsDV!

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 11:40:13

BIWI - I think you already are? It's MousefaceVB thank you xx

Well after only a day, I've got £44.75 in sponsor money and that's without tapping my friends, family and DH's business! grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 11:42:16

A bit nearer the time Mousey, you OK with us sharing your stuff from the Woolly Hugs FB page?

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 11:53:14

Of course, absolutely whenever you feel is right smile

I am so honoured and proud to be a part of this, I've never done anything like this before, before I became disabled, I'd always say, "I'll do the next fun run, sponsored this, that and the other." blush

But I never did. So now, I am Paying It Forward smile xx

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 12:24:15

Ah yes - I am. But I'll follow you in my other name <mysterious> and re-tweet you from both [beams]

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 12:26:47

... actually that's not your Twitter name!

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 12:45:42

Nope, you're right, it's @Mouseface75 dozy mare that I am! I knew you were following me, as YOU and as the MN you I do believe?

< taps nose>

<hopes is right otherwise knows she's going to look even more stupid grin >

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 12:54:17

I was only following you with my MN name - but am now following from both. And have re-tweeted.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 12:54:40

seamless

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 12:54:45

Thank you!!!! My Twitter alert on my mobile just went into meltdown grin xx

5madthings Thu 16-May-13 14:23:01

I have a twitter account I never use... Can't get to grips with it at all!

I have just booked my train tickets for London grin

Planning on getting up at 6am tomorrow to run before school run and toddler group!

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 14:54:38

You go 5mad, you go!!! xx

EarnestDullard Thu 16-May-13 15:53:42

6am is very keen 5mad grin I'd love to go running early in the mornings but after nights like last night, up at 11.30pm and 2.30am with 7mo DD2, no chance.

I did run 4 miles this morning though, and 6 miles at the weekend - my longest run since DD2 was born!

Good on you for the sponsored hobble Mouse. We're friends on FB btw, I'm KA. Can't remember when I added you, maybe after a random FB-related thread on here?

I do have a Twitter account but I never got the hang of it..

5madthings Thu 16-May-13 15:57:18

Well dp is at work tomorrow afternoon/evening so I have to fit it in in the morning.

I don't blame you not getting up early with the broken sleep tho earnest dd is still in our bed at 2.5 but generally sleeps pretty well now, so couldn't do the broken nights again!

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 16:50:30

Earnest - I've got you! Wow, good on you for your planned distance! I can only every dream of that sort of distance these days! You're a star!!

What's the 'rule of thumb' with sponsoring each other? Is it a case of if you sponsor me, I'll sponsor you because I could well be Barry Flint by the end of the year if so, but I don't not want to sponsor people if any of that makes sense.

I'd rather make a donation to the 'whole cause' so that I'm not showing favouritism. Is that okay? Of course I love you all, you're ALL fab and this is all so amazing.

Would that be okay with everyone who has sponsored me who is also running, wobbling, shuffling, hobbling, skating, riding etc? grin

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 16:52:12

Well, osteopath has said no running for me sad. However, I haven't got shin splints (yet) and I can be cured grin

She has suggested cycling in the meantime, to keep my fitness up and cario/stamina levels up.

Which is fine, except for I don't have a bike ...

BIWI - good news it's not shin splints. I recently bought one of these

5madthings Thu 16-May-13 17:43:14

Boo for no running, but yay that she can cure you smile

Time to get a bike, I have a lovely Scott bike, men's line as I don't like the ladies frames but its a small frame size so fine for me to ride. I have spent hours looking at bikes the last few days for ds2 for his bday in July, you can end up spending a LOT of money if you get carried away!

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 18:06:24

Yes, that's the problem. At the moment I don't have money to spend on anything - no work - and DH will hit the roof if I shell out on money for a new bike, when my old one, which I barely used at all, is rusting away outside blush

Think I'll just have to go to the gym and use the fixed bikes there instead.

5madthings Thu 16-May-13 18:10:52

You could ask at your local police station, they often auction off bikes really cheaply ie stolen ones that have been recovered but owners can't be traced or ones that have been found and not claimed etc. Gumtree and free ads are also good smile

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 18:18:19

That's a good idea!

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 16-May-13 18:22:17

Or you could borrow mine? smile

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 18:23:02

Oh Pistey. I would hate to deprive you of the opportunity to ride your bike grin

Mouseface Thu 16-May-13 21:42:33

Gym Bikes are better because you can vary your speed, level of intensity etc, and if you are already a member then go for it there.

Or, the police is a fab option, failing that - Freecycle <arf> often have free bikes on that might need a bit of TLC but that's better than shelling out for a new one BIWI?

I'm glad it's not shin splints and I'm sorry that you can't run. I know how that feels xx

Night lovely ladies, I'm hoping my GP will give me the thumbs up for shuffle/hobble/wobbley frame walk! grin xx

I forgot to say before, my race pack arrived through the post today with my number (and safety pins to attach it grin), a big drawstring bag plenty of room for post-race gin and chocolate and a timing chip for my shoe shock

Morning brew

Just did 5k in 25.14. I can't get under 25 minutes and it is beginning to annoy me. For no reason. I don't know why I want it to be under 25, I just do.
Ds1 did 18.33. I don't care. I may break his stopwatch on Monday.
He is far too young and fit and smug

EarnestDullard Fri 17-May-13 11:45:06

I got my race pack today too Shredded! We don't have to use the drawstring rucksack, do we? I was planning to just take my Oyster card and iPod in my pocket and get DH to bring my post-run gin and chocolate Lucozade with him, as he'll be bringing the DDs to meet me at the finish line.

Sorry to hear of your running embargo BIWI but glad it's not shin splints. Swimming's another good bet for low-impact exercise, if there's a pool at your gym.

Tantrums I'd be thrilled with 5k in 25.14! My pace is somewhere between 10min30sec and 11min per mile, depending on how hilly the route is smile

EarnestDullard Fri 17-May-13 11:45:40

And the fastest mile I ever ran was 9min30sec, but that was downhill, and before I had children grin

5madthings Fri 17-May-13 12:22:43

My bupa pack arrived today smile i will have to use the bag as i will have my overnight stuff etc.

I do a mile in a similar pace to you earnest after the bupa run i think i will try and increase my pace with some interval training but for now i am quite happy that i can run for an hour given i had never run at all until feb!

MegBusset Fri 17-May-13 18:25:34

According to the FB page we now have an extra place for the London Bupa 10k - just posting here in case not everyone had seen it.

Ran 45 mins non-stop today and it was fine - easier than stopping and starting. Think I'll stick with that length run now and rely on crowd support to get me through the last leg!

BIWI Fri 17-May-13 18:46:12

I've set up my own Just Giving page today

outing myself here, for those who don't already know who I am!

I did that so that I can send the link to my clients, who obviously wouldn't have had a clue who Woolly Hugs or Pistey/Knotty are!

PiggyPlumPie Fri 17-May-13 19:37:02

It sounds like there are going be some good times posted next week!

Wish I could come down and take that extra place but it's just too far. sad

I will be there in spirit, cracking my whip to get you all round smile

KnottyLocks Fri 17-May-13 19:39:07

Wot? Are we not infamous? shock

BIWI Fri 17-May-13 19:40:04

Well I went to the gym today, to try out the fixed bike there. I did 10 minutes, which was just short of 5K. Not at an especially fast pace or difficult level - I just wanted to see what it was like.

If I do 30 minutes, then that should be roughly 15K.

But goodness, it's dull!

There will need to be some good times Piggy - from reading the magazine that came with the race pack, the roads re-open at 11.30, only an hour and a half after we start. Or in my case, probably less than that, as I'll be starting near the back grin.

Earnest I think you only need to use the BUPA bag if you are checking it in at the bag drop - at least that's how it used to work when I ran in big organised races when I lived in NY. If DH is meeting you at the finish I guess you won't need to check a bag in.

We ended up at A and E yesterday. DH awoke with a puffy leg and pain in his groin. We rang the ward, who told us to ring the GP, who sent us to A and E. His blood tests showed that he was at risk of a DVT, so he's now got to go for daily injections of blood thinners for the next week. Our DS1 has had diabetes for over 10 years, and between us we have given thousands of insulin injections. So we're hoping that today they will let him have an injection kit and let him do his own instead of trailing to and from the hospital every day.

Yes, dull indeed BIWI. That's why you need a real bike grin. Preferably a new, up to the minute, advanced technology, super-light frame and wheels to reduce the stress on your shins grin.

Mouseface Sun 19-May-13 12:53:19

Afternoon, I am still in my PJs grin

My WCC pack arrived last week so I now have a bright orange t-shirt that I can wear but I need something woolly for the day, I have to have wool, tis the law! grin

I've decided that I would like to raise £500. I think if I keep pushing the cause between now and June 21st, plus the fact that I am broken, I should get somewhere close to there?

I've got almost £45 now and that's only after 1 week, I need to get my arse into gear and remember to ask people. I don't want to badger them but I because of my own disabilities, I'm hoping that people will give at least £1.00 or £5.00 via JG.

I'm putting an email together so that I can send that out to friends and family who don't do online ££££ and ask them to send me a cheque but I'll post the WH/WCC/JG link too in case they do want to do it that way.

I really want to make a difference. I have to, it's so, so important. xx

BIWI Sun 19-May-13 13:22:32

Neither that's a pain, for your DH/you.

I went into the bike shop yesterday and had an idle look around. Very quicly shock at how much you could spend on a bike!!!

Mouse I've set my target at £500 as well.

MrsDeVere Sun 19-May-13 14:10:28

I am up and showered and dressed and everything!
Had a quick nip out yesterday and today i a taking dog and boy to puppy classes.

So I a hoping its all good for full recovery by next Monday.

I will still need pushing along but I was worried for a while I wouldn't be able to get there at all <drama queen>.
Feel more optimistic now but can't help I am letting everyone down by not running round.

If I had got on top of it before I got ill I might still have stood a chance.

Oh and the bike being dull? Nah! I love a static bike and a treadmill. You can read your kindle. You can't do that on a proper bike can you? grin

You are all doing BRILLIANTLY and it makes me feel so amazing. Thank you x

BIWI Sun 19-May-13 16:21:14

grin

Mouseface Sun 19-May-13 21:05:22

grin at kindle on a real bike.

You are all fab xx

Glad to hear you sounding better MrsDV.

5madthings Sun 19-May-13 21:36:25

Lol at kindle Reading on a bike! As a teen i actually used to ride along reading a book, holding the book in one hand, what the fuck was I thinking?!!

I ran 8km in 52 mins this eve, average pace 6mins 30 secs per km, and that felt fine, I could have carried on going bit don't want to push myself too hard before next week so will just do some shorter runs this week I think smile

FuckThisShit Sun 19-May-13 22:46:44

Just signing in. My running dream is getting serious. In between sensible and serious talks regarding gin, I have now got the app as recommended by lovely BIWI and am starting it on Tuesday morning when the irksome urch is at school.

I'll also be cheering the London BUPA runners on next Monday and will bring chocolates to tempt you all over the line. Aforementioned urch will be there to jolly along everyone too.

5madthings Sun 19-May-13 22:48:24

Chocolates! grin

FuckThisShit Sun 19-May-13 22:48:53

MrsDV DD3 knows you're going to be there and already has the outfit planned. I think you probably know exactly what she'll be wearing, tough she has new wings that you'll love!

FuckThisShit Sun 19-May-13 22:49:24

*though

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 20-May-13 07:39:38

You'd better be quick London runners or I will have eaten all FTS's chocs, mind you, I shall bring gin to revive anyone who needs a gin grin

Gin and chocolate. Perfect grin.

FuckThisShit Mon 20-May-13 22:44:19

Fear not Pistey I'll be bring special rations for us too grin

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 08:22:02
FuckThisShit Tue 21-May-13 10:56:50

Yes! That's perfect BIWI.

Well I have just done run number 1 using my GetRunning app that BIWI recommended and I actually really enjoyed it. Like properly enjoyed it. I didn't even feel like bailing at all and I am now looking forward to my runs on Thursday and Saturday too.

5K? Bring. It. On.

grin

<waves pompoms>

grin

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 13:31:30

It's a good job I'm not running this weekend, as I'm still injured and running is verboten by my osteo sad

Enduring some very painful treatment at the moment too. But I'm hopeful that with this, and lots of stretching, I'll be able to start running again soon.

EarnestDullard Tue 21-May-13 13:45:39

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery BIWI, (btw, did I send you a friend request on FB? I think it was you. I was just going through the 'people you may know' thingy).

Well done on your run FTS smile

To those that are doing the 10k next week, are you going to run at the weekend? I usually do a short run midweek and a longer run at the weekend, but I thought I might swap them over this week, and just do 3-4 miles at the weekend. Enough to keep me ticking over, but not so long as to tire me out before Monday.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 21-May-13 14:01:34

On Monday, FTS and I really want to see everyone before the race to wish you good luck [fourleafedclover] and lovely Shredded has suggested the Family area in Green Park for meeting and greeting - we are going to meet her under W for Woolly wine grin Just trying to work out the time.

<pom poms>

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 14:54:09

Earnest - I don't know if you did or not grin Surname is as in twinkle, twinkle - first initial 'A' ...

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 21-May-13 15:04:55

Where is the end of the run? Because after we've waved you off we are going to all have to trot to the end. Or we will all go on FTS's DD's scooter grin Or I will go on the scooter and make them run <beams>

EarnestDullard Tue 21-May-13 15:07:38

Ha, it wasn't you then, oops blushgrin Definitely an MNer though; one of the names that crops up on several of my MN/FB friends' statuses etc.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 21-May-13 15:08:41

If you have BIWI on FB all she talks about is her love of crochet and sewing <rolls eyes>

KnottyLocks Tue 21-May-13 15:41:29

Incessant crafting <rolls eyes>

EasilyBored Tue 21-May-13 15:54:53

Hello lovely running ladies. I am officially bricking it for Sunday. Why exactly did I think this was a good idea? I've got my runs up to 7.5k, and I feel like I could go further at the end, but I just get bored, fingers crossed the crowds pull me through on the day!

5mad am envy at your times, you are going to put me to shame. I think we will have to have lots and lots of cake at mums on the weekend after. I've had to stop netball for this week, as it is wrecking my calves and shins and leaving me hobbling around for days afterwards.

Dilema; my running partner has done exactly NO training unless you count lifting pint glass to her mouth as training and I'm a bit hmm because I really want to finish in a decent time, and I don't think I'm going to be able to wait for her/stop every couple of minutes. I need to get into my rhythm and just power through. I hope she doesn't get annoyed if I leave her behind.

Oh, and I'm a bit sad because DH isn't coming to watch me finish. He doesn't want to bring toddler DS into the city centre and cope with him and crowds and all that faff. I understand his point, and I know that he will get all stressy and DS will get whingy at not being allowed to go play in the traffic, but still. I wanted them there.

Can't wait to see pictures of all the woolies down in London!

The end of the run is the same as the start I think - on the Mall. If we meet at the family area, which is just outside Green Park tube station, to start with, we can all wander across to the start together?

We runners will need to line up by our numbers/bib colours - I'm in group B of the green slow start zone.

I will probably be there super-early because of the rubbish bank holiday train service. I've posted on my local parkrun's FB page to see if anyone else from my neck of the woods is going.

I plan to try to have a long-ish run today/tomorrow, and to do parkrun on Saturday.

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 16:04:00

grin

I'm known for my love of all things domestic, I'll have you know.

Easily - where are you running? Can we muster some MN support for you?

My DH can't come on Monday to see me and the other Woollies - he's on crutches. DCs will likely stay at home with him instead of coming into London.

I think you should run at your own pace. I think it's more tiring running too slowly than too quickly. Fair enough to run together if you've trained together and have a similar pace, of if one of you is injured/ill at the last minute and the other is happy to slow down, but not if one of you has trained hard and the other hasn't.

A good friend and I did a half marathon back in January. She's faster than me anyway, but I was hoping she'd pull me along in her slip stream. As it happened I had a terrible run, and was slowing her down so I sent her off after the first mile. She felt guilty (and her DH was cross with her for leaving me smile), but I'd have felt even worse for slowing her down. If I was your partner, I'd be willing you to go as fast as you could.

FuckThisShit Tue 21-May-13 17:13:47

Earnest it was me you added! I was just going to ask Pistey 'who is she' but I've no need to now!

5madthings Tue 21-May-13 17:38:15

easily you will be fine, I think the crowds help cheer you on, if my dp can run the London marathon with eight weeks of training and never going more than 15miles you will become to power through the last few Km's.

My times aren't that good but i can run at a consistent 6:30 over km for an hour so I think I could do it in an hour and 5 mins but meg and I are aiming for an hour and ten mins but it will depend how crowded it is etc. We are both green group c.

biwi I think you commented on a post of mine the other day on Fb, that I had tagged mrsdevere in bit we aren't actually 'friends' on fb which makes me wonder if I need to re check my security settings actually! Not that I mind you commenting and happy to add you but I wonder if all my posts have become 'public' somehow rather than 'friends' only, bloody fb.

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 19:21:29

I'm rapidly losing the plot as to who is and isn't a FB friend!! 5madthings - give me a clue as to who you are? And you too, Earnest? Then I ought to add you both anyway - would make life a lot easier! grin

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 19:21:43

Oh, I'm reasonably nice, house-trained and all that ...

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 21-May-13 19:22:51

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 19:26:23

Hah! Found you grin

5madthings Tue 21-May-13 19:36:38

Just accepted your friend request, I thought it was you when you commented the other day, it was the carb related discussion that made me think it was you grin

mrsdevere I bought some butterfly clips for my hair today to wear on the run smile I also got dd a new tankini swimsuit with butterflies on, its lovely, I was horribly mean and wouldn't let her wear it for the school run tho, she would have frozen!

EarnestDullard Tue 21-May-13 20:10:53

BIWI, I'm KA, just sent you a friend request today. Have now sent one to 5mad too, hope that's ok.

EarnestDullard Tue 21-May-13 20:11:52

(OK with 5mad I mean; I'm sure BIWI doesn't mind that I've sent a friend request to 5mad! grin)

5madthings Tue 21-May-13 20:23:18

That's fine smile shall go check and accept smile

FuckThisShit Tue 21-May-13 20:27:26

She might. You can never tell with BIWI wink

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 20:45:53

I wondered if that was you, Earnest ...

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 20:46:53

BigStickBIWI Wed 22-May-13 09:01:44

Morning!

EarnestDullard Wed 22-May-13 09:05:13

Morning brew

I'm planning a 7 mile run today, but not till this afternoon when my GPs arrive to babysit. Then I'll do a shorter run on Saturday or Sunday, plus I'm Shredding (only 2 days to go before I'm officially finished the 30 days, but I'll probably keep doing it because I'm still very wobbly round the middle). Then the 10k on Monday, eek!

I'd forgotten about the bank holiday train service. I think I'm green group B (my vest has my number in green and it starts with a B, so I'm assuming). I'll be there in plenty of time to meet up and say hello. It'll be nice to see you again Pistey, and without your DD for protection this time grin

easily You'll be great on Sunday, the crowd and the atmosphere will spur you on. What time does the run start? I'm sure we'll all be here waving virtual pom poms for you smile

Is anyone else going to the MN meetup on Saturday afternoon? I think I saw Tantrums on the thread.

FuckThisShit Wed 22-May-13 09:56:56

Earnest I'm going along to the meet up on Saturday.

EasilyBored Wed 22-May-13 12:27:14

Do you know, I don't know what time it starts on Sunday. I should probably look at the stuff they sent me. Did 7k last night, will go for a 5k on Friday and then relax on Saturday.

My lovely sister outed me on the WH's page on FB! I'll have to name change after the race. HopALongMcLimpyLegs might be appropriate.

5madthings Wed 22-May-13 12:57:36

EasilyBored Wed 22-May-13 13:42:32

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 22-May-13 14:14:34

Apparently,the Manchester 10K is being televised <beams>

EasilyBored Wed 22-May-13 14:27:26

Shall I find my race number so you can look out for me? I'll be pretty hard to miss anyway -- I'll be the sweaty one with an enormous bouncing bosom being visibly restrained by an industrial strength running bra -- as my running gear is mostly pink. Wonder if I could wear a woolly hugs badge...

HopALongMcLimpyLegs Wed 22-May-13 14:39:04

Testing..

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 22-May-13 14:39:20

Mouseface Wed 22-May-13 19:28:48

Quick question - if I change my privacy settings on one post - my please sponsor me post, will it then open up my entire fb to the world?

I want to make that ONE post 'public' but the rest of my security is Friends Only..... does anyone know? I don't want to do it and then be twatishly stupid and get all manner of nutters wanting to marry me wink grin

5Mad - sorry to say, that postal demand was your sponsor form! Bloody Royal Mail xxxx

Not read back but well done to those who are doing well, Nemo and I are poorly, off school and pukey.

Which is nice hmm

Mouseface Wed 22-May-13 19:54:04

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 22-May-13 20:14:49

Lots of love to those who are running if I miss you before the big day xxxx

Mouseface Wed 22-May-13 22:48:38

5madthings Sun 26-May-13 09:22:04

Yay go easily grin

Mouseface Sun 26-May-13 12:23:00

I'm sat watching the Greater Manchester Run thinking of EasilyBored with her WoollyHug in her heart, and hoping she's okay in this heat.

I keep bursting into tears with all the stories and memories being shared there today.

We used to live 10 mins from the city centre and friends would come stay with us each year to run it........ I miss the atmosphere. It was such a unique feeling, everyone has a story, a reason, it's fantastic.

I've also decided that when I do my hobble, I'm going to take Nemo with me and use his wheelchair to lean on/support me if it's not raining. I've not told him yet grin but DH will come too and maybe even Seth the wolf.......

Who knows. smile

I think you are all so fantastic for doing as well as you are, I hope that you/we can keep going and double the target! xx

BigStickBIWI Sun 26-May-13 18:33:19

Bloody hell, Mouse <wipes tears and quells sobs>

Mouseface Sun 26-May-13 20:09:55

And why the 'bloody hell?' with the tears? smile Tis all good, no? smile xx

MrsDeVere Sun 26-May-13 20:26:46

Just sorting out my running shirt.
Writing the names of some of the children I know as well as Billie's of course.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 28-May-13 10:01:56

I love them!

And I love the new name. Fabulous. X

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 29-May-13 06:52:46

Our next fabulous runner is Otherworld who runs the Southampton 5K at the end of June, I'll have to rally her onto this thread!!

BigStickBIWI Wed 29-May-13 17:12:22

Osteopath has cleared me to start running again smile

I have to start C25K from the beginning, but add in an extra rest day in between the runs - which means it will probably take me until October to get back to 5K. But I know I can do it, which is a huge psychological boost.

MegBusset Wed 29-May-13 18:54:35

Oh great news BIWI smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 29-May-13 19:02:21

Such good news BIWI. And yes, you can do it. And you will. X

BigStickBIWI Wed 29-May-13 19:02:52

Oh yes. Going back to Week 1 is going to be really easy grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Thu 30-May-13 08:49:16

Brilliant news BIWI! Take it easy smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 30-May-13 20:46:39

you go today BeeWee?

BigStickBIWI Thu 30-May-13 20:50:29

Nope. Have to wait until cold has gone - no need for extra trauma, apparently. Am planning to go on Monday, assuming I'm feeling better.

BigStickBIWI Thu 30-May-13 20:51:00

When I say 'cold', I mean the cold that I'm suffering from, not the general weather! I'm assuming it will still be cold next week ... grin

Otherworld Mon 03-Jun-13 08:12:14

Just checking in. I'm ready and raring to go grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 03-Jun-13 08:49:04

Back in a few days, off to drum up some more support.

Mouse xxx

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 05-Jun-13 07:02:36

I will keep it all crossed for a beautiful day for you Mousey X

Mouseface Wed 05-Jun-13 15:42:49

If you're keeping a running total on how much you are being sponsored by people, are you including the gift aid amount or not?

Thanks smile x

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 05-Jun-13 16:11:01

I would say def yes smile

Mouseface Wed 05-Jun-13 18:00:53

Super! xx

Mouseface Mon 10-Jun-13 15:08:32

ONLY 11 DAYS TO GO!!!!!!

Is it wrong that I am so super giddy, even though I know that the pain will be horrific? grin

I have my lovely orange t-shirt ready to go and my gym kit, plus support belt etc, all laid out.

I'm trying to get more sponsors and am going to the link on FB and Twitter every day, plus badger everyone lots now that it's getting nearer to the time!

I'm going to phone my mother tonight, and ask her, everyone has had an email today and I'm going to ask at preschool tomorrow but I'm not sure that they can give as a 'preschool' but the staff may individually, seeing how uber cute Nemo is and all grin

How's everyone else getting on? smile x

BIWI Mon 10-Jun-13 17:11:51

Well I re-finished week 1 yesterday grin All is well so far with #shinwatch. Had a hot bath when I had finished, and I'm doing lots of stretching, so am cautiously optimistic.

But only running for a minute at a time is very frustrating! Can't go out again until Wednesday, so it's going to be slow progress working back up to the 30 minutes/5K.

Mouseface Mon 10-Jun-13 17:31:30

Good news re #shinwatch!! Super ouchy by the sounds of it when you get the pain sad x

MrsDeVere Mon 10-Jun-13 18:16:25

Has anyone seen the bridge walk thingy in October?

MrsDeVere Mon 10-Jun-13 18:16:43

Has anyone seen the bridge walk thingy in October?

Mouseface Mon 10-Jun-13 19:12:58

Are they doing it twice MrsDe? wink

Nope, what is it? Is it WCC or another fabulous cause? x

BIWI Mon 10-Jun-13 19:14:53

I think MrsDeVere has a hidden agenda here - to get all of MN super fit!

MrsDeVere Mon 10-Jun-13 19:30:25

Its WCC. I am a little vague on details but you all should be used to that by now.
They posted on FB.

Hang on a sec..

MrsDeVere Mon 10-Jun-13 19:31:20
RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 10-Jun-13 19:37:20

That's the one where you start in Richmond Park, walk to very near me and back again. I think. You could always come and have Pimms/tea here before walking back grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 10-Jun-13 19:38:56

Mousey. You are the next of Team Woolly Hugs to go!

<waves pom poms>

Mouseface Tue 11-Jun-13 11:10:27

Pistey I know - DH has posted on my FB that the company will give/match £250 if I can raise the same. I need £105 to get to that! I am going to start standing on the street begging! I've got to get that money for us!!!!! smile

BIWI Tue 11-Jun-13 14:52:36

Mousey - that link on your FB page doesn't take me to the right story/post!

How do I donate to you specifically, rather than the Woolly Hugs Just Giving page?

Mouseface Tue 11-Jun-13 18:28:15

I'm sharing the Woolly Hugs page with them, so if you put a message to me at the end of the donation process, with my mousey name in, like others have on the page, I'll know you've donated to MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE grin

Or you can send me a cheque? I have a paper form too. smile

Thank you lovely BIWI

Mouseface Tue 11-Jun-13 18:34:24

PS - ONLY £50 TO GO UNTIL I'VE HIT THE TARGET DH'S COMPANY SET ME TO MATCH THE SPONSORSHIP £££££ FOR £££££

Mouseface Tue 11-Jun-13 21:41:23

grin

Thanks for the reminder, young whippersnapper

BIWI Thu 13-Jun-13 12:02:01

Week 2/Run 1 ripped and sorted grin

I managed to pause the Get Running app at 3 minutes by mistake, during the warm up at the beginning. So instead of carrying on warming up for an extra 2 minutes, I put in an extra run. So 7 runs today, rather than the scheduled 6.

It was quite nice running today - thankfully the rain held off - although I did have to wear my jacket as it wasn't as warm as it could have been.

And lovely baby ducks beginning to arrive! (Pics on Facebook)

Mouseface Thu 13-Jun-13 16:52:19

Awww to baby ducks! We have them at the castle and the baby swans too! smile

Glad you managed your runs xxx

Mouseface Thu 13-Jun-13 21:39:29

Another £10.00 gift aided too, taking my total up to £297.50, so far, with an extra £250 to come.... get in!! grin

Am I allowed to say that? KEEP THE DONATIONS COMING IN PLEASE!!!!!

I'm so excited but have been poorly yesterday and today a bit, it appears to be every 10 - 14 days so fingers crossed it shall keep at bay for next Friday!!

Send healing vibes to my tummy please Woolly's smile xxx

Mouseface Thu 13-Jun-13 21:40:01

Sponsorship - sorry! Not Donations! blush

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 13-Jun-13 22:04:58

Sending healthy vibes. X

BIWI Fri 14-Jun-13 08:39:13

More healing and healthy vibes from me too xx

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 15-Jun-13 09:48:36

I've just fainted! We are over £2000 on our Just Giving page!

Oh you guys are just awesome, hugs for everyone Xx

Mouseface Sat 15-Jun-13 12:54:00

Sponsorship is at £553.75 today which includes DH's Company sponsorship - my parents are yet to be forced to sponsor me added, as are a few others who will be getting an email this week with a 'gentle nudge' shall we say!!! grin

I AM SO EXCITED!!

It's fabulous that we've gotten over the £2k mark, I am really going to ramp it up in the next few days until my hobble on Friday so please forgive my Facebook posts!

Oh, and Pistey - my Woolly Hug wheelchair banner and bracelet have arrived, and they are absolutely gorgeous.

Nemo said, 'aww, Mamam, dats o ice ov Feasteeee' grin He can't say some of his letters, so it could have been a lot worse! grin

All joking aside, I really do think that this is the most amazing thing that we're doing. I love you guys for letting me help! Thank you.

All pain meds have been ordered so that I will not be without. Super organised, all I need is for my tummy to behave, and the weather to not be torrential rain or it will be a sponsored swim!

Mouseface Sat 15-Jun-13 13:18:03

OH MY GOD

My mother has just text to say she's giving £50.00 this weekend!!!! <faints>

BIWI Sat 15-Jun-13 13:43:31

... and I've got £190 on my page to contribute as well! Will ramp up the pushing nearer the October date.

5madthings Sat 15-Jun-13 13:46:53

Wow fabulous sponshorship!! I am collecting mine and have about £200 so with that and mousefaces and biwis we must be nearly at £3000?!! shock grin

Mouseface Sat 15-Jun-13 14:40:22

5mad - my total includes the JG page, as well as my paper form, sorry blush, I intend to kick ass this week and push for help with the October one too!! smile xxx

Mouseface Sat 15-Jun-13 15:00:22

Right, DH is panicking a wee bit, I've told him the original deal he made with me was if I got to £250.00 in sponsorship, he'd match it. Now I have rather more grin he's gulping lots so I've told him that £250.00 is fine as his sponsorship and not for him to match it £ for £ as he'd said.

I hope that is okay with everyone, he is self employed, not a millionaire and I thought the fact that he's given £250 in the first place was awesome, so I've capped him at that.

Sorry if that's upset anyone, I hope you all understand?

<wibbles>

It's just that doesn't suit the ashen look he turned as he read through my running total grin

Sorry and thank you xxx

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 15-Jun-13 15:26:16

Bless your heart Mousey smile How could you ever upset us?!

It is an extraordinarily generous thing for him to give £250, blimey, that is awesome, tell him he is a star, and do something to put the colour back in his cheeks wink [arf]

What is rather fabulous though is that you have shot past £250! You are brilliant well done you. You know when we first looked at this, we read that it costs about £400 for a specialised children's cancer nurse for a year, and I keep seeing the money in that way. The money we raise will help so much. Thank you Xx

Thank you to everyone Xx

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 15-Jun-13 15:27:37

My sponsor money is way above what I thought I'd ever get.... I wanted to get £500. I hoped I'd get at least half of it but didn't really get anything until these last few weeks!

Only five more sleeps until the big day. Huzzah! grin

Do you have room for another runner? smile Have just signed up for the Plymouth 10K, not till November the 3rd though so have plenty of time to train. Am doing the race for life this weekend, so I need to have something else to aim for!

Good for you lovely. smile It's great once you've done it. I've put some pics on my profile from my hobble! grin

Otherworld Tue 25-Jun-13 21:35:55

Otherworld Mon 01-Jul-13 09:54:25

Morning all,

Sorry I didn't come back yesterday.

Race report:
Was a very warm day. 24 degrees by the time I finished! I would say under 200 runners met up at Southampton common. Some fabulous costumes worn by some of the runners and lots of very well known charities were represented.

At 10.45 we did a warm up, which was almost an exercise class in its own right. By 11am we were all queueing up and ready to go. A countdown from 10 and we were off.

First km was easy but warm, but after that I started to realise just how little running I've done of late. As usual kms 2-4 were the hardest and I found myself walking some of it but before I knew it I was at the 4km marker. Rounding the corner for the final approach to the finish line and I found an extra reserve of energy I didn't think I had to cross the line in a very slow 37.44!!

I've sent some photos to the admin@woollyhugs account.

Who's next?

MrsDeVere Mon 01-Jul-13 10:02:49

Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Thank you so much x

BIWI Mon 01-Jul-13 11:21:57

Yay!

MegBusset Mon 01-Jul-13 11:27:51

Well done Mousey and Otherworld smile

Otherworld Mon 01-Jul-13 11:52:32

Do we have an up to date schedule?

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 01-Jul-13 12:37:10

Next to run are the London crew in October - at the mo, tis BIWI, Frank, TantrumsandBalloons, various DC and me <faints>

MOS was talking about joining us. There are still places smile

Otherworld Mon 01-Jul-13 13:13:36

Is it 5k?

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 01-Jul-13 15:21:33

By heck yes grin

Otherworld Mon 01-Jul-13 16:31:24

In that case - can I come too? I commute into London so have a train pass!

Well done Otherworld! 37 minutes is a fab time.

I'm originally from Southampton, haven't been to the Common in years though, not since sixth form. Your post has reminded me to take the kids there next time we visit.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 09-Jul-13 07:02:28

am going to ask for this thread to be moved to running or somewhere, here in chat it will fall off the perch soon

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 09-Jul-13 18:47:23

wine Cheers and thank you lovely Kate smile

Mouseface Wed 10-Jul-13 16:00:39

Hello everyone smile

Sorry I've not been around to cheer anyone on, but a HUGE well done to Otherworld <applauds and shakes pom-poms> xxx

I just wanted to show you all what my sponsorship has achieved (just mine I mean, not our joint total) after receiving a letter from Katie at WCC. I raised £895.00 in total.

"I'm so impressed with what you achieved, and do hope that you weren't in too much pain as a result of doing the walk. The amount of money you have raised is phenomenal, thank you – it’s enough to completely cover the costs of treatment from start to finish for a child, offering them the chance of a cure, as well as also covering the costs of courses of chemotherapy for more children – what a huge impact you will have made, thank you!"

How fantastic is that? smile

I am blown away at the difference every day people can make if they want to smile Big Hugs to everyone training xxx

BIWI Wed 10-Jul-13 18:16:54

That's brilliant, Mouseface! flowers

I did run 2 of week 5 today - so next run is the dreaded 20 minute one. Even though I've already done it and completed the whole C25K I'm still apprehensive about it grin

But so far so good with the shins. <remembers to stretch>

Mouseface Thu 11-Jul-13 16:54:32

BIWI - just take it easy okay lovely? Shins hurt like hell don't they! Big hugs to you for your next run xxx

BIWI Thu 11-Jul-13 17:12:12

Thank you! All is still well shin-wise, but I'm taking an extra rest day just to make sure.

Gym with trainer tomorrow morning, and then will do The Run on Saturday.

#thinklikeagazelle (#butrunlikeanelephant)

jellybrain Thu 11-Jul-13 22:58:28

Hello all, just found this thread. I plan to sign up for the Blenheim 10k in October - if I do it for woolly hugs I can't chicken outgrin

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 12-Jul-13 07:41:22

Oh you absolute star. Thank you so much!

Go and sign up!!!!

thanks

BIWI Fri 12-Jul-13 09:53:20

Brilliant!

jellybrain Fri 12-Jul-13 16:58:16

Sign up complete!! This will be my first 10k, I've recently completed c25k. Hope I haven't been to ambitious blush

jellybrain Fri 12-Jul-13 16:58:56

Too ambitious

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 12-Jul-13 17:46:41

Oh well done, you are marvellous, thank you so much. We shall be ready to cheer you on!

There are Bridge to 10K apps to be had, maybe one of those will help? there is still aaaaages before your race.

And thank you X

jellybrain Fri 12-Jul-13 21:09:09

Have a 10 k plan to follow which I will start Sunday. Have hoefully persuaded ds to train with me.

BIWI Sat 13-Jul-13 12:21:34

[awe]

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 16-Jul-13 08:21:28

Morning chums wine

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Tue 16-Jul-13 18:06:49

Hello runners grin

BIWI and jelly - according to my Womens Running mag if you can run for 20 mins you are a runner grin

jellybrain Tue 16-Jul-13 22:59:34

Ohoneohtwo - that makes me a runner. Yay grin . Did the first session of my 10k plan this morning- a nice easy 3k, run2 is on Thursday. I plan to run early while it's still fairly cool.

Mouseface Sat 27-Jul-13 10:13:40

Morning smile

Just wanted to say "yayayayayayay"! to Jelly for signing up. 10k as well! Brilliant xxx

BIWI - hope your shins are still ok? xxx

Be back soon, keeping an eye on this thread smile xxx

CoteDAzur Sat 27-Jul-13 11:23:59

jelly - Which 10K program are you following? I found one but it has no interval training at all. Just says "Run 35 mins" one day, then "run 40 mins the next time etc.

BIWI Sat 27-Jul-13 14:40:04

Yay! Jelly! are you quite mad?

Thanks Mouseface - yes, my shins seem to be fine at the moment. I'm up to week 6, and will be doing run 3 tomorrow as long as it's not either too hot or too rainy! That is a 25 minute run.

I'll have to be careful about the stretching because it was at this stage that things got really painful last time. But so far, so good! smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Sat 27-Jul-13 20:36:53

Good luck for tomorrow BIWI!

BIWI Sun 28-Jul-13 08:13:59

Thanks! Just readying myself ...

BIWI Sun 28-Jul-13 10:11:08

Ta dah! Week 6/Run 3 completed. Pleased with the pace too. MapMyRun has me at 6.30min/km. That's a bit slower than I was running last time, but it means that 5K in 30 minutes is definitely achievable.

I found the last 5 minutes quite hard going though, and was very grateful for the parts of my run that are shady. Even though I went early-ish it was still hot.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Sun 28-Jul-13 21:47:16

Applauds BIWI!

AnotherWorld Sat 24-Aug-13 21:49:03

Just checking in. Took me ages to find this thread. How are you all?

jellybrain Sun 25-Aug-13 22:01:15

Hi everyone, haven't posted for ages- sorry.
Cote- I am using an app called Runkeeper on my iPhone I love the fact that I can just follow it and don't have to work it out for myself.
I was having the wobbles about the Blenheim 10k lots of people telling me how hard it was, lots of difficult hills, and that lots of very serious runners go. Anyway was feeling quite anxious but I have given
Myself a stern Talking to- kids affected by cancer have it much, much harder and I should bloody well get a grip!
I won't be last will I?
Anyway I now have a number and a timer chip and need to get my just giving page set up. Will get in touch with wcc on Tuesday too.
Best of all I ran just over 8k on Friday so I should be able to do 10k in time for October.

Haven't checked in here for ages! Hope everyone is doing well. I am up to 4.5km at the moment - had a bad cold/cough/chesty thing which took me out of training for a week. I have until the beginning of November to get up to 10k.

Hopefully next week will see me reach 5k and then I'll be half way there.

My DH has just received his fundraising pack for the 10K, and it got me thinking about t-shirts - what has everyone else done? Has anyone got a good example of a t-shirt they've used/made? I am suffering from a lack of imagination!

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 01-Sep-13 07:48:49

Morning lovely.

Mostly the lovely London 10K folk all got a running vest from WCC, I can give you the contact email if you like, I know BIWI has one for October, I've only just asked for one. Mousey had a T-shirt from them. Piggy made her own, so did 5mad.

We do have an album in our Woolly Hugs FB with photos in, if it helps.

Am running every other day at the mo, going for 30 mins but by no means running all of that! Got this bloody frozen shoulder going on which doesn't help, so last night went and was a bit woooo on the co-codamol!

Wel done jelly - really proud of you, please let us know the date so we can cheer you on.

brew

Afternoon Pistey, yes if you could pm me the e-mail that would be fab, thank you. I'll have a look at the album too. hope the shoulder sorts itself out soon, can anything be done for it or do you have to wait it out?

8K is great Jelly, I still have a way to go to get that far so well done! Ran 4.59K (roughly!!!) last night and could have done more so feeling pleased with that.

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 04-Sep-13 14:33:19

Afternoon smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Mon 09-Sep-13 21:50:15

Evening grin

jellybrain Tue 10-Sep-13 10:16:05

Just requested a fund raising pack from WCCsmile Looking fwd to receiving my running vest toogrin next task is to set up a Just Giving page.
Managed to run 9.6 K on Sunday so, nearly there now- need to speed up a bit I am determined not to be lastblush

jellybrain Tue 10-Sep-13 10:20:15

P.s I will be running on the 6th of October. Which now seems ominously close.

Jelly, that's great! You sound ready to run. I'm up to almost 6k, have about 7 weeks till my run.

I think there is a woolly hugs just giving page, there should be a link in the op. I got my vest last week from wcc - Dh is a bit jealous of it as he says it's very good quality!

Hope everyone's running is going well. Anyone else watching the great north run on tv tomorrow? Always gives me a bit of motivation.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 16-Sep-13 11:16:47

Wooohoooooo Jelly!

Nearly time grin

jellybrain Wed 18-Sep-13 21:49:01

Got my WCC vest on Friday. Dd wore it till bedtime - it's her favourite colour grin I got new trainers today which I itching to try out. On a rest day tomorrow though so,might have to wait sad

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 19-Sep-13 07:01:43

I need to email Lydia, Mine hasn't come yet. I asked for one the size of a marquee. Ideally with the poles grin

BIWI Thu 19-Sep-13 08:35:42

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 20-Sep-13 16:23:31

thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks

jellybrain Fri 20-Sep-13 21:10:13

O no I set up my own page. Having said that most of my sponsorship is on paper so I should just be able to pay that onto the Wooly hugs one once I've collected it. And actually run of course!
I have to run 10k on Sunday in training so thought I'd do the actual route or near enoughgrin
Wish me luck.

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 20-Sep-13 21:18:11

Huge, huge luck my lovely, we are so proud of you X

Just popping in to say good luck to all those who are running in the next few weeks.

And Justine/MNHQ's announcement? AMAZING. grinthanks

BIWI Fri 20-Sep-13 22:33:06

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 22-Sep-13 11:37:57

Hello MrsS smile

Oh huge well done Jelly!! Yaaaayyyyyy!!

Well done Jelly! Fab time too

Just out of interest, how many races/runners do we have left to go?

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 26-Sep-13 08:42:58

Arse! Thought I'd replied here - where did that go???????? hmm

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 26-Sep-13 08:54:43

We have 4 more runs of this year left, on Sunday 6th October we have fabulous YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka running in the Royal Parks Half Marathon and the equally fabulous JellyBrain running in the Blenheim 10k.

The next weekend on October 13, is the London 5K in which the awesome BIWI, HepsibarCrinkletoes and TantrumsAndBalloons will go, and I'll be doing my thing, arf and yaaayyyy!!!

And then yours, what's the date?

Mine is the 3rd November, Plymouth 10K. Still a few races left then, I didn't realise it was that many!

Thanks for the info Pistey, good luck to everyone!

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 26-Sep-13 10:52:17

And to you too lovely, we are so proud of you, and very grateful too thanks

jellybrain Thu 26-Sep-13 11:35:35

Discovered energy bars yesterday. OMG they make you hyper. Definitely having one before my race grin
I hurtled around the park like a woman possessed, only did 5k though, may need 2 for the 10k.

BIWI Thu 26-Sep-13 11:36:10

Did they do a drugs test afterwards? You could be the first banned Woolly Hugger grin

PiggyPlumPie Thu 26-Sep-13 22:06:41

Ssshhh don't tell anyone but..........

I got in the London Marathon!!!!

BIWI Thu 26-Sep-13 22:08:41

PiggyPlumPie Thu 26-Sep-13 22:23:09

Good I think! Didn't think I would get in so was a bit shock shock shock

grin

jellybrain Tue 01-Oct-13 17:49:59

I should be safe from testinggrin , though dd did ask if I was going to win.
I've managed to coerce £120 of sponsorship so far. Not masses but, it all helps.wink

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 02-Oct-13 06:49:08

It certainly does, that really is marvellous, thank you thanks

And you WILL win! Only member of Team Woolly Hugs to enter grin you too Yippee. HOORAY!!

Same sadly can't be said of the London 5K, although I have a plan to tie BIWI's laces together at the start. She's giving me a lift, so I'll wait until we get there and then nobble her smile

jellybrain Wed 02-Oct-13 17:28:57

Buy1 get 2 free on energy bars in Holland & Barratt todaygrin there'll be no stopping me!!!
Quick where do I sign up for the half marathon? Hmmm I think not

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Wed 02-Oct-13 17:36:31

BIWIZ Wed 02-Oct-13 17:49:02

Eek - running out of training days!

I should have gone for a run today but it has rained really hard for most of the day. All have to try and go tomorrow

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 02-Oct-13 17:52:40

I thought you Northerners were a hardy bunch, no?

Bit of rain hmm

BIWIZ Wed 02-Oct-13 17:57:37

Too many years living in the South, evidently! Will have to hand back my Northern credentials I fear

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 04-Oct-13 15:10:16

The weekend is upon us!

Run woollies, run!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Fri 04-Oct-13 15:50:23

Yay! Hope it stays dry for woolly runners smile

Forecast for London is good so far. Fingers crossed smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 04-Oct-13 17:11:52

Dry and fairly mild I think. I have this feeling when we go the following weekend it will be pouring or snowing.

Mind you.

If it snows, we can ski down the Crystal Palace hills. Huzzah!

BIWIZ Fri 04-Oct-13 18:08:27

I ran yesterday, in the fog but before the torrential rain arrived.

I ran up a hill shock

I had to stop and get my breath back blush

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 06-Oct-13 08:49:58

<picks up pom poms>

Run Woollies Run!!!
