Another Woolly Hugs project has been started in desperately sad circumstances sad You will already have seen that Beatrice, the daughter of Cupofteaplease, has died. Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family.

Details of the project are www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1595636-Blanket-for-Cupofteaplease-Crafters-donors-your-help-is-needed-x, the crafters' guide is here and there is also now a Ravelry group for Woolly Hugs, thread here.

Please post if you need any help and support - as before, the Crochet Stars will be popping through, like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice.

MrsShriek3 Thu 01-Nov-12 09:43:29

Still got squares blush... Will inbox someone to see if they're any use and what teasets blanket is being made with.

tribpot Thu 01-Nov-12 09:46:23

Sorry - dodgy link to the chat thread with the details in! It's here.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 01-Nov-12 09:58:41

MrsShrek - PM me my lovely, or FB message if it's not working. Tis playing up today.

MrsShriek3 Thu 01-Nov-12 10:10:32

Will do smile

I have heaps of wool so am on the case. I don't think we have a deadline yet (or have I missed it?)

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Nov-12 10:17:42

Checking in. smile

Thanks Trib thanks

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Nov-12 10:19:07

No deadline yet. I think it'll be a slightly longer time span than usual as there have been some difficulties with wool supplies.

Will let you know as soon as we're sorted.

Flojo1979 Thu 01-Nov-12 18:02:51

Yeah I think we all need a little longer!

Waves madly to Trib! Hiya, I'm back with the huggers, having moved house and am in the middle of renovations, but am trying to keep all the dust off my squares and flowers for Bea.

I got my wool from Stash Fine Yarns ordered on Friday, here on Tuesday - not one of the normal MN suppliers, but if you're as impatient as me, maybe worth a try.

tribpot Thu 01-Nov-12 20:02:06

Welcome back, Gleaming! House move and renovation all sounds very tiring.

GetOnYourDancingShoes Thu 01-Nov-12 21:03:25

My donor yarn has arrived...a deep purple and a silvery shade.

Thank you to the lovely donor. It is an honor to work with yarn on behalf of someone else and I shall try to do it justice smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 04-Nov-12 07:12:11

Bless you DancingShoes, thank you X
And hello again Gleaming smile

Hi Pistey, yes trib it is a bit tiring... carpets will finally go back down on Wednesday, Hurrah! Then time to try and get the kitchen done by Christmas.

Your yarn sounds lovely DancingShoes, have you got a plan for the square you'll make?

I photographed what I have done so far, but in all my household chaos, cannot cuurently locate the cable to attach camera to laptop... maybe it'll turn up soon!

Flojo1979 Sun 04-Nov-12 10:23:10

I started a thread yesterday as I thought ii might have broken my wrist. The general consensus was that its a ganglion cyst. On further research they can be caused by repetitive strain. It seems my new hobby is causing problems. Anyone else had this problem?

tribpot Sun 04-Nov-12 10:33:12

Flojo - I definitely get an elbow ache from too much knitting. I've found that knitting in the continental style is much easier to do without strain. That said, it is an absolute bugger to learn when you're used to knitting in the English/American style with the yarn in your right hand.

These two videos show what I mean, the purling one has the more complete explanation and the knitting one then explains how to do it for the knit stitch specifically.

I actually took this video course in order to learn how to do it, and then needed a lot of practice. I'm really glad I've done it now, but it was very frustrating to begin with.

Gleaming - I moved house 5.5 years ago and I'm still finding things. Fortunately I think this means my DH will never find out what I <cough cough> decluttered before we moved without telling him.

Oh no flojo! We can't be having that. I'd suggest resting it a bit. When I fitst got involved with the blankets I found it kind of takes over and your body can complain a bit (with me it was my shoulder). I had a couple of days of no knitting and then eased my way back in and it was fine. Hope it is for you too.

Flojo ouch that sounds nasty, hope you're going to get the wrist checked out and it feels better soon

trib I can't do that continental style, the UK one is just so ingrained! When we were packing up the last house I just had a rule that I sat in front of DH (he has mobility difficulties and couldn't really help) and everything had to go into the keep or not keep pile, NO maybe pile and any hesitation it went into the not keep, it was pretty ruthless and successful, except that he acquired his mobility difficulties in the middle of this process and we didn't revisit stuff we'd already done so his bloody golf clubs are still cluttering up the kitchen smile

Pictures of my progress so far are on my profile - think I am going to try and make some iCord butterflies next

Flojo1979 Sun 04-Nov-12 17:53:47

Yes I think a trip to the GP is in order tomorrow, just to check that's what it is and if resting will help etc.
(if I bend my hand forward, as in if going to touch the inside of my wrist with my fingers, a huge hard lump pops up on the back of my hand where my wrist in.

Flojo1979 Sun 04-Nov-12 17:54:31

*where my wrist is.

Oh Flo hope it goes well tomorrow and it's sorted soon, what a shame if the knitting/crotcheting caused it, hope you're able to carry on when the pesky wrist is sorted.. you can stay here and be all supportive to everyone else in the meantime, that's just as important a job as actually making things!

Flojo1979 Sun 04-Nov-12 18:39:38

Thanks gleaming oh I do hope I can finish cups squares at least sad

outtolunchagain Sun 04-Nov-12 19:11:07

I've had a few problems with my wrist recently as well so have been looking a knitting in different styles . I am a thrower but have been trying the lever method , holding the needle like a pencil, find continental very confusing . The worst thing I find is socks for giving me a sore wrist.

I am also a little behind on squares as have cricked my neck and can't look downsad

Do we need a bench for the injured crafters? Complete with Woolly Hug of course

EdgarAllansPo Sun 04-Nov-12 19:39:49

hope you are feeling better soon, outtolunchagain and am sure it would be alright to leave your squares for another time, another woolly hug rather than exacerbate any injury/strain.

Or you could try some wine ! grin

EdgarAllansPo Sun 04-Nov-12 19:41:12

And Flojo, hope you are better soon!

We need a woolly bench, with lovely cushions and woolly throws to make the knit/crochet injured people comfortable and in a position to cheer everyone else on

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 04-Nov-12 20:11:33

I want a woolly bench!

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 04-Nov-12 20:13:28

Hello Eggy smile

Hope all injured Huggers are soon recovered. Xx

wine

Hands Pistey a Debby Bliss merino DK throw, am thinking a deep turquoise would be appropriate

Flojo gets a silvery blue DB, with a little padded pocket to rest the sore wrist

Edgar d'you want to give me a hand with this allen key.... trying to make up this IKEA bench plus wool bombing stuff

EdgarAllansPo Sun 04-Nov-12 20:33:00

OK, you hold all the bits together and I'll hold the allen key until your arms drop off. That's how it's usually done, isn't it? grin

Admires the turquoise throw.

(And I like the name Eggy, thanks Pistey!)

Flojo1979 Sun 04-Nov-12 21:34:56

grin

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Nov-12 21:36:43

Someone yarnbombed a bench near us. So very lovely smile

EdgarAllansPo Sun 04-Nov-12 21:50:24

Oh, sounds great, Knotty. Can we see a picture?

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Nov-12 22:51:43

No idea if it's still there. I go look when I have a spare minute. We sat on it eating icecreams in the summer. 'twas a lovely moment smile

Eggy glad you like the turquoise throw, I'd make you one, but, since my arms dropped off I can type with my nose, I can't knit with it...

OpheliaBumps Mon 05-Nov-12 19:44:57

Hi all, has anyone got a nice bee motif I can work into a square for Bea's blanket please? Can't find anything on ravelry, and for the bunting I made little bee toys and sewed them on, which won't really work with a blanket, so I'm stumped!

Flojo1979 Mon 05-Nov-12 21:52:59

Well I'm off the subs bench for now. Doc reckons it is a ganglion cyst but he doesn't think my knitting would make it any worse. Phew!
The bad news is, I finally got back to my knitting and again was an inch off and had to frog it. That's 2 squares, not sure what's going on. I'm only doing Chinese waves! The first one for My5 turned out lovely, this is attempted 3 (I think I keep getting distracted and losing my place!) not much hope when I do something harder is there!

outtolunchagain Mon 05-Nov-12 23:18:59

Ah , Chinese waves , I did that for expats blanket , a nightmare size wise , do not take it too heart. I can't remember how many stitches I had in the end , about 40 I think, definitely frogged at least twice before the size came right .

Flojo1979 Tue 06-Nov-12 09:17:04

Size wise I'm ok, I have 39 stitches, but I was just looking at it thinking another couple of rows should do it, when I realised there was something not quite right about it, and when I held it up away from me, I could see a strip across it, not sure what happened! I trying to undo til after the line but couldn't find my place so the whole lot had to go. So glad we have extra time on this! Feeling the pressure more since I got donor wool this time!

Flojo1979 Tue 06-Nov-12 09:18:08

Was going to do the seed stitch of hugs website next. Is this easy to keep track of where u r?!

tribpot Tue 06-Nov-12 09:47:27

It's fine as long as you can tell the difference between a purl and knit stitch by looking, Flojo. If not, you may want to put a few stitch markers in to keep track of the number of stitches.

Flojo1979 Thu 08-Nov-12 00:12:12

Stitch markers confused now that's done it, u lost me! I'll blindly give it a whirl, what's the worst that can happen?!

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 09-Nov-12 07:04:59

Morning all brew

Don't think I'd know what a stitch marker looked like!

<goes off to google>

tribpot Fri 09-Nov-12 07:22:26

Posh ones
cheap ones

Or you can just make a loop of contrasting yarn and use that. You just slip it as you come to it on the needle.

Those are really posh trib. I have the split ring type but can never find one when I need one (blames cats)

fraktion Fri 09-Nov-12 08:46:44

I need to find my stitch markers. Not sure where they are....

I've had to frog my fern lace square 3 times. Can't get the size right sad

KnottyLocks Fri 09-Nov-12 09:06:08

Fraktion, if it's knitting up a wee bit small, remember that if it stretches to 6" it'll be fine smile

KnottyLocks Fri 09-Nov-12 09:07:05

And if it doesn't , we can always add a crochet border here before we hook it together.

Flojo1979 Mon 12-Nov-12 15:15:53

Chinese waves complete.
Now half a seed stitch square but I'm not sure I like it, maybe I should have source a picture first! Maybe squashed in with all your fancy squares it'll look ok!

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Nov-12 19:58:33

Flo, they sound lovely, they really do smile

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 14-Nov-12 11:44:04

Starting to get a bit concerned that I posted my squares on Friday, I hope they haven't gone astray.

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 14-Nov-12 15:22:09

Last posting for squares for lovely Cup's blanket to be SATURDAY 1ST DECEMBER
