It's simply gorgeous.

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 01-Apr-12 21:16:11

Everyone has done amazingly well, the squares are absolutely beautiful, people are so clever! Thank you to all the lovely donors too. And a very big thank you to our Knotty for the tremendous amount of dedication and hard work she has put in to this, working out how the eclectic mix of squares and gorgeous colours fit best together and then in hooking it into this final glorious blanket

We are sending a very big woolly hug to Chipmonkey with a lot of love X

That is just completely beautiful, as all the blankets are. Really, it is truly lovely and I am sure Chipmonkey and family will treasure it forever.

Huge round of applause for all involved thanks.

KnottyLocks Sun 01-Apr-12 21:28:01

There are some absolutely stunning squares on the blanket: very gifted people.

The lovely folks who donated wool have also made this possible and are a vital part of the blankets. So a huge thanks to them , as well as to the crafters who did wonders with their wool.

Am really looking forward to seeing the blanket tomorrow smile Well you too Knots, but particularly the blanket! <arf> grin

And then I am very much looking forward to bringing the blanket to you on Friday Chip. Absolutely chuffed and honoured to be able to do that.

You are all truly fabulous.

Luff you all.

chipmonkey Sun 01-Apr-12 23:13:08

I'm so looking forward to meeting you, Pistey! You know, I have never knowingly met a MNer!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing the photos. The whole blanket is so much more than the sum of the parts.

RatherBeOnThePiste Sun 01-Apr-12 23:29:03

Awww....... so sorry Chip, it had to be me to be the first one you meet grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 02-Apr-12 00:09:06

aJumpedUpPantryBoy Mon 02-Apr-12 00:44:46

Thank your for the PM. I made my squares under my old user name.

The blanket is amazing. A huge thank you got those who organised and coordinated it. You have done something incredible.

I can't get over the variety and quality of the squares.

Well done everyone

LadyWellian Mon 02-Apr-12 01:35:33

Well done Knotty and Pistey as ever, and sending Chipmonkey a bit of extra love too.

Really lovely, well done to everyone involved.

Thumbwitch Mon 02-Apr-12 06:12:59

Thank you for the PM, Knotty (and you Pistey for the link via the other thread too)
It is a thing of joy and beauty forever and I'm glad chipmonkey likes it - hope she likes it even more in RL when she gets hold of it.

Much though the need for these blankets upsets me, I'm very proud to be a part of them and thanks to DickSwiveller'sTidyWife this time for her work in crafting my wool into beautiful squares, as well as to Knotty of course for putting it all together thanks

alibubbles Mon 02-Apr-12 06:50:08

I'm speechless at the beauty of it, I showed DH and he never imagined that the plain little squares I had knitted could become part of something so utterly beautiful,

Well done gifters, knitters and all involved!

twofalls Mon 02-Apr-12 06:55:09

Wow, that is beautiful. Well done to everyone involved.

trumpton Mon 02-Apr-12 07:05:27

I am proud to have had a small part in such an amazing effort. A truly remarkable Woolly Hug .

It is a beautiful work of art! grin it's amazing what a bunch of strangers can achieve. grin

SoupDragon Mon 02-Apr-12 08:33:38

MNers do make a damn good woolly hug smile

TheRealMBJ Mon 02-Apr-12 08:50:05

Thank you knotty and poster for posting these photos. It really is a beautiful. Piece of art. Well done everyone that contributed. It's gorgeous.

JulesJules Mon 02-Apr-12 11:42:19

Thanks so much for the pms and the links.

When I've finished my not very well knitted squares, I sort of sigh and think, well they aren't very good, but you look at the picture of the finished blanket, and you really 'get' it. The whole thing, so various and beautiful, the feelings behind it, so many people contributing, wanting to send comfort and love.

<reaches for hanky>

BIWI Mon 02-Apr-12 17:00:11

And I'm at work too, you buggers.

KateUnrulyBush Mon 02-Apr-12 19:30:33

Thank you Knotty and Pistey for helping me find my way here, and for the wonderful photos of the beautiful finished work. What amazing construction! I made my squares under my old username I think so glad the pm system found me, I've been off mn for a while.

Many thanks to you all, and much love to Chipmonkey xx

Methe Mon 02-Apr-12 19:38:00

That is really beautiful smile well done everyone!

WhoremoaneeGrainger Mon 02-Apr-12 21:00:02

That is lovely - i can see my squares!!! Makes me so happy to see it all finished, although terribly sad are the reasons we make them.

If chip and her family get one ounce of the love in that blanket then its all worth it.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 02-Apr-12 22:05:55

Evening everyone wine

I got Chip's blanket from Knotty this morning and it is here now, ready to deliver on Friday and it is absolutely blow you away stunning. Actually makes me go goose bumpy.

A woolly hug for Chip from us all.

thanks for everyone x

prettybird Mon 02-Apr-12 22:30:59

My first ever MN knitted squares went into this one, handed over to Pistey in person. It's lovely to see the finished article with so many fabulous examples of knitting and crocheting.

Woolly hugs indeed smilesmile

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 02-Apr-12 22:39:02

That was so lovely Pretty smile I took your squares home, they went to Knotty and now they are back here hooked into in Chip's blanket.

And you know they did s---t---r---e---t---c---h grin And they are gorgeoise! That cabling is ver ver clever, and they look smashing. thanks

janedoedoejanejanedoe Mon 02-Apr-12 22:46:38

everytime I see one of these completed, I wish I could do more than throw in a little cash, as a frequent name changer, Im not sure what use I could be to you.

They are so beautiful and full of love.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 02-Apr-12 23:00:32

You know lovely people who donate wool or funds to these projects are as much a part of the projects as the crafters, so JaneDoe - a big thanks for your support X

chipmonkey Mon 02-Apr-12 23:06:02

Janedoe, enough already! There are plenty of really skilled crafters who would not be able to make the squares if there weren't any donors and vice versa. There is lots of love knit into every square, whether donor-love or knitter-love. It really doesn't matter which type.thanksthanksthanks

janedoedoejanejanedoe Mon 02-Apr-12 23:13:36

thanks chipmonkey

Have a hug as well ((((((((((((((((((hug))))))))))))))))))))))))

SoupDragon Tue 03-Apr-12 07:30:38

The blankets would be much smaller without the help of the donors!

There are people who can do the crating but can't afford the wool, there are people who can afford the wool but can't do the crafting. There are some who can do both but probably not enough to make the lovely big blankets smile

SoupDragon Tue 03-Apr-12 07:32:15

I actually think the whole donor aspect epitomises the whole "pulling together" aspect. All those balls of wool ordered in one place and delivered to another to be turned into a square.

BIWI Tue 03-Apr-12 08:10:49

Maybe we should open a MN wool shop?! grin

AmyGurumi Tue 03-Apr-12 09:44:42

Wow, it's amazing, so lovely to look through all the squares. I'm really happy to see mine with their new neighbours smile

thanks Thank you to my donor and those who organised and put it together, and very best wishes to Chipmonkey and her family.

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 03-Apr-12 09:57:48

Morning brew

I like your thinking BIWI grin

Donors generously enable others to join in who otherwise couldn't afford to take part in the project. Sometimes these donors are actually crafting on the project themselves, they just help others out too. Sometimes they help out more than one person. Often though it does mean that people who don't have knitting or crochet skills can still support the blanket for a family. An absolutely marvellous thing.

And Soupy is right, it really does illustrate the pulling together aspect of the blankets. Just amazing.

Not bad for a nest of vipers!

ledkr Tue 03-Apr-12 10:03:21

Today a blanket made me cry a bit hmm nought so strange as mn. Well done ladies and Chip i hope it gives you and the family at least a tiny bit of comfort. Lovely tribute to Sylvie Rose.

KnottyLocks Fri 06-Apr-12 11:52:32

Chip's blanket is being given to her today, delivered by Pistey.

chipmonkey Fri 06-Apr-12 22:56:10

Hello, lovely woolly crafters. The delightful Pistey has been and gone and I have my beautiful blanket!

It is the nicest blanket in the world. I knew it was beautiful from the photos but I am very surprised by how heavy and substantial it is! Knotty has done a fantastic job putting all the gorgeous squares together and ds4 has already had a snuggle on the sofa with it, completely unprompted by us. I had expected that it would be a bit delicate and that I would have to put it away safe to stop the boys from ruining it but I think it will withstand being kept in the living room for anyone who feels like a snuggle.

Some of you also put in cards and I am so thankful to you all for keeping our family in your thoughts and sorry that some of you have been through similar experiences.

Woolly hugs to you all from the chipmonkey family!

PaquesJeLeVauxBien Fri 06-Apr-12 22:57:20

Aww, that's lovely, have been thinking about you today Chipmonkey.

chipmonkey Fri 06-Apr-12 23:10:31

And Pistey is so lovely, she was pointing out what squares had been done by who. So much love and effort in each square. I would also like to thank the donors as craft isn't everyone's thing and a lot of the crafters wouldn't be able to craft without the wool.

Thumbbunny Fri 06-Apr-12 23:27:42

So glad you love it, Chipmonkey - hope it is a comfort. (((hugs)))

So pleased the blanket has reached its home and can start to share its woolly hugs! smile

PurplePidjin Sat 07-Apr-12 08:50:21

I hope it brings you many years of comfort thanks

PaquesJeLeVauxBien Sat 07-Apr-12 08:51:11

(sorry - BIWI here in my Easter incarnation!)

SoupDreggon Sat 07-Apr-12 08:52:17

And of course you shouldn't put it away, out of reach smile It is for snuggling and you can't do that on a shelf. Unless you are very small and flexible. And light.

chipmonkey Sat 07-Apr-12 09:02:33

I'm afraid I am none of those thing, Soupy!grin Love your teddy squares, BTW and admire them in a How-Did-She-Do-That sort of way. You're very clever.

SoupDreggon Sat 07-Apr-12 09:04:30

<<looks shifty>>
they were actually really easy but don't tell anyone

KnottyLocks Sat 07-Apr-12 11:02:57

Isn't it lovely when a plan comes together? smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 07-Apr-12 20:18:01

I most certainly concur smile

chipmonkey Sun 08-Apr-12 22:38:42

Hello there I am chipmonkey's "ds1" I would really like to thank All the ladies who helped to make the blanket, I heard that there were about 75 people who contributed to making the blanket and thAt really touched me, to know that there were that many people who each spent some of their time to make such a beautiful blanket. My younger brothers and I really enjoyed it on our way down to Wexford, it kept us comfortable and warm for the whole trip. I am even using the blanket right now. My mum is very serious about keeping it clean but I don't blame her. But anyway I am very very grateful for everything everyone has done. Thanks for making such a beautiful blanket everyone, I greatly appreciate it . Thankyou and a special thank yu to Pistey for bringing it over to Ireland and I would also like to thank you for the lovely chocolates :D. And my little brother or as my mum calls him "ds4" says you are a very nice lady.

PaquesJeLeVauxBien Sun 08-Apr-12 23:20:26

Thumbbunny Mon 09-Apr-12 01:32:37

Awwwww, thanks chipmonkey's DS1! What a lovely boy you are too. smile

chipmonkey Mon 09-Apr-12 11:48:25

Disclaimer: I only call ds4 "ds4" on Mumsnet. Otherwise he is called by his actual name!grin

ds1 is lovely and has been wonderful as all the lads have been since we lost their baby sister.

trumpton Mon 09-Apr-12 15:32:53

Thank you CMs DS1 for updating us. It was a privilege to have been a knitter on your special blanket. Have many lovely hugs x

KnottyLocks Mon 09-Apr-12 15:45:35

Chip DS1, you are obviously a darling smile

It was a very great honour to help create the blanket for you and your family.

The blanket is just beautiful. Knotty, I hope you don't mind I pilfered your picture for my blog.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 09-Apr-12 20:04:20

Hello again Chip's DS1 smile

It was a complete honour to be able to bring the blanket to you on behalf of everyone, I'm so glad you have it now. It was absolutely lovely meeting your family, and you couldn't be more welcome for the chocolate - I just hope you didn't eat too much, especially DS4 who was enjoying 'sharing' grin

You Chip boys are all smashing. X

KnottyLocks Mon 09-Apr-12 20:59:52

Dilly, as long as you don't mind us linking your blog on our Woolly Hugs Facebook page smile

Lovely blog post btw smile

DillyTante Mon 09-Apr-12 21:21:22

Of course you can link my blog. For the record, the posts that I have written about the mumsnet blankets have been some of my highest hitting.

KnottyLocks Mon 09-Apr-12 22:25:44

We've linked it. thank you smile It'll be interesting how many hits you get.

TimeForCake Sat 14-Apr-12 15:36:00

The blanket is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The squares look so fantastic together. Knotty you are so clever and the blanketeers/ donors have done a wonderful job. What a responsibility for you Pistey!
I managed to crochet my first ever square for this and it was an absolute honour to be involved. As for the oldest Chip adding his thoughts, what a little treasure. Your boys sound like they're an absolute credit to you Chipmonkey. Wishing you all many woolly hugs underneath it.
