Blanket Number 6, please help [sad]

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 06:53:34

Following on from the blanket for Magic8 which is under construction, we'd like to offer one to Whatevertheweather who has recently lost her baby daughter.

I know there is already an army of knitters and crocheters and donors out there; would anyone be able to join us?

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs Wed 31-Aug-11 07:11:53

I'll send money, I can't knit. Please let me know where it is to go.

Lorelai Wed 31-Aug-11 07:22:59

I can knit, is someone going to be organising matching donors with knitters?

DutchOma Wed 31-Aug-11 07:23:18

I can knit 3 squares out of any ball of wool that anybody would care to send me.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 07:32:18

We need a volunteer to match up donors with crafters, please. I'm happy to do the construction again (unless someone else wants a turn??), but don't have the skills to take on spreadsheets etc sad

DutchOma Wed 31-Aug-11 07:35:03

I don't know if I can do spreadsheets, but I think I could probably do it on a piece of pare away from the computer, if that is any help?

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 07:36:55

Card files worked for centuries before some bastard one invented computers, Oma - thank you [star]

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 07:38:00

Happy to join in again - happy to buy wool for someone. Is there enough of the right sort of wool left in the country, or should we switch to a different one? perhaps the baby one this time, or not?

SoupDragon Wed 31-Aug-11 07:50:49

I thought this when reading the thread.

I'm up for helping again.

CoffeeIsMyFriend Wed 31-Aug-11 07:51:54

happy to send some money to someone. Not so good at the knitting part and crochet is beyond my skills.

rubycon Wed 31-Aug-11 07:54:03

I'll knit again.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 07:57:40

If we use the same wool, I can hold back any spare plain ones from Magic's three.

I can't believe there are so many volunteers so fast [star]

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:00:12

I'm in.

Oma, I'm PMing you.

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 08:01:00

That's true, pidjin , hadn't thought of that - was just thinking about Lydia running out of stock and the other shops slowing down in their deliveries, so was a bit concerned about supply!
(have PMd you as well, btw, just in case you haven't noticed smile)

LawrieMarlow Wed 31-Aug-11 08:02:30

I am happy to do one or more squares - have enough wool left over from magic8's one as well so am happy for any squares I send to be split between blankets as appropriate.

trumpton Wed 31-Aug-11 08:02:53

I will do 3 squares , < wish I didn't need to.> But proud and honoured to be a part of MN at it's best. So sorry for Whatevertheweather and the loss of her daughter.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:04:04

Pidj, has anyone contacted WhatEverTheWeather yet?

posterofawolef Wed 31-Aug-11 08:14:27

I'm up for it again. So sad sad

faverolles Wed 31-Aug-11 08:18:02

I can send wool. If someone could let me know colours and type.
Or I can send money if that makes it easier.

ComeWhineWithMe Wed 31-Aug-11 08:18:05

I will donate wool/funds.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 08:21:52

Thumby you have pm

ComeWhine contacted wtw last night to get the go ahead before I started the thread

If everyone keeps their spare wool we can swap it round a bit to vary colours? And maybe lydia has a wholesaler she could contact - would someone be able to pm her for me? I'm stuck at work til 8 and I'll be away camping from thursday evening

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:23:16

I'll get onto that now, Pidj.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs Wed 31-Aug-11 08:23:45

I will PM Lydia and get her to contact you if that's OK.

SoupDragon Wed 31-Aug-11 08:24:36

Do you think it woud be possible to get a baby sized blanket out to her before Erin's funeral? I am happy to make a replacement bear square for Magic8's blanket.

I have just ordered some wool from Cucumberpatch explaining the situation and asking for a prompt dispatch.

Tonksforthememories Wed 31-Aug-11 08:28:14

I'll donate wool if someone can match me with a crafter.

lia66 Wed 31-Aug-11 08:31:05

Oh I read this last night but didn't have the words then. Will def contribute. so sad.

RIP little Erin. xxx

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:33:18

We're just getting our heads together regarding the organising and will post as soon as we're sorted

Thanks. You're all [stars]

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:33:56

Pidj, check your PMs.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:34:36

Soupy, that's a lovely idea.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs Wed 31-Aug-11 08:35:37

I can't find Lydia's contact details to PM her. If nobody has it, I can probably remember the name of her shop and phone her again.

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Wed 31-Aug-11 08:35:47

I will help.

I can't knit, but I will donate money or buy and post the wool, whatever is easier to co-ordinate.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 08:42:01

Ripstheirthroats, Lydia is on here somewhere. She's posted fairly near the bottom Magic's blanket

If you can take that bit on, that would be brilliant. [star] smile

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs Wed 31-Aug-11 08:42:04

It's OK, I found her and sent a PM.

GalaxyWeaver Wed 31-Aug-11 08:47:16

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

I can send wool or money, though money is probably easier for me.

CognitiveDissident Wed 31-Aug-11 08:51:12

I can crochet a couple of squares. Any particular design or colour?

What wool thickness/type/tension and size of square do you need? I can supply my own wool.

hairypotter Wed 31-Aug-11 08:55:00

Happy to donate money as I can't knit. Or send someone wool, whatever is easier to co ordinate.

I cant imagine what they're all going through. I'm so sorry for your loss whatevertheweather

I'm a recent returner to knitting but will knit a square. I can supply my own wool etc (as long as I can find it)
Could you post all the specs - wool type, colours, needles, size, no stitches etc.

Seems like no time since the last blanket was started. sad

if someone wants to send me wool i can get some squares done up sharpish. will get mum to help she is a really fast knitter.

calrabbit Wed 31-Aug-11 08:57:25

I am happy to knit again if that helps.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:00:03

Wool is:

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are much of a muchness and can be combined.

4mm knitting needles
cast on 33 stitches (for knitters)

6" squares

Will be back with more info shortly.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:02:54

If anyone can knit initials into their squares, we would like an 'E' for Erin and a 'K' for her sister.

Many thanks.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:05:16

If we continue with the palette we've used for previous blankets, we can use any spares.

Blues, purples, pinks, greens, silver/ greys

How much wool do you need for a square?
I'm a bit new to this and don't want to run out half way.

The colour palette sounds very soothing IYSWIM.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:11:43

Whenisitmysleepytime, most knitters get 2-3 squares from a ball. If it's 2, that's absolutely fine.
We ask you to include any leftovers with the squares when you send them so we can use it to stitch the blanket together.

MilkNoSugarPlease Wed 31-Aug-11 09:19:39

I didn't manage to send any wool before buy if someone can match me up and tell me what site to buy it off then I will get some

So so sad

Thanks knotty I'll get myself organised with wool online tonight.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:22:34

We're sorting things out now, Milk. Thanks.

As we've done in the past, we'll match doners to woolly folk...once we're a bit more organised.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:24:52

Previous blankets and quilt pics can be seen here

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 09:34:17

I've got 8 or 9 already and I know there's some in the post. Also some wool so I could use those to make squares instead of waiting to edge? How long have I got as it were?

SoupDragon Wed 31-Aug-11 09:39:20

Pidjin, mine went in the post yesterday, first class.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:39:28

Pistey is sending you two balls for edging if that helps your decision.

I've done 10 for Magic's blankets and Piste is sending me more wool today that went to her instead of me.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 09:48:15

Apologies for lots of x posts I'm at work and it's a busy day. Will drop in when I can [star]

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 09:49:44

Pidj, can you get your PMs at work?

If not, I'll switch to text.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 09:49:47

Soupie and knotty that's the stuff I meant!

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 09:49:47

Soupie and knotty that's the stuff I meant!

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:03:51

Have PMed you. Could you get back to me as soon as you can?

Ta. smile

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:24:02

Current numbers:

14 woolly folk

12 donors

You lot are bloody marvellous smile

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs Wed 31-Aug-11 10:25:50

Tis a great thing, this pulling together. Still waiting for a PM from Lydia. I was going to just send the money, but she might be on holiday.

SoupDragon Wed 31-Aug-11 10:29:17

Knotty/Oma, I have ordered some wool myself so if there are more donors than crafter's, i can be left me off.

These blankets make me feel strange. On the one hand there is the excitemment of pulling together to do something lovely and the enjoyment of creating something and on the other the deep wish that it wasn't necessary and a smidgen of guilt at enjoying it.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs Wed 31-Aug-11 10:30:09

Well said Soup.

WhoremoaneeGrainger Wed 31-Aug-11 10:32:11

AM currently doing for Magic 8 but am happy to carry on if someone can send me some wool???

Hi, ive just got the pm from rips, this is just so sad, obviously im on board with knitting! I have no yarn left but my Debbie Bliss Rep just so happens to be visiting today so depending on how quick the yarn is needed i can see if i can get a discount on the yarn? If this is ok let me know what colours, i have to order bags of ten so i could order a bag of cream, a soft pink, soft purple, and blue that way anyone with wool let over from magic8 will still fit in tone wise. Let me know what people think, she's coming at 1
My heart goes out to whatevertheweather and her family x

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:38:46

Lydia, you [star]

We're going with the same palette, so purples, pinks, blues, silvery tones, greens. Anything in that spectram would be marvellous.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:39:32

Blimey, I obviously mean spectrum

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:40:08

Cream would be good too.

CoffeeIsMyFriend Wed 31-Aug-11 10:41:23

When you are all organised could someone PM me details of who to send/paypal some money to and I will get it done asap.

So sorry that yet another blanket is needed. sad

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:42:32

Will do, Coffee. Many thanks.

belledechocchipcookie Wed 31-Aug-11 10:44:45

I can knit, you'll need to tell me what size to make the square though. sad My thoughts and prayers are with whatevertheweather and her family.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 10:47:12

Belle, squares need to be 6".

Wool is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or Rowan Cashsoft DK. Blues, purples, silvers, greens, pinks.

Many thanks.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 11:04:32

Whoremoanee, hold back on your offers I need you as back up on construction if that's ok? Seeing as there's cake no posting involved [star]

Thumbwitch contacted me earlier because Cheeseandgherkins lost her daughter last christmas and I'd finding things hard. I'll divert extra squares to her, which gives me 3 blankets to make up.

Knotty. Oma's out for the day

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:08:00

Pidj, I'll crack on with matching then. See Lydia's post above ^^ re wool.

Once my little darlings are back to school, I may have a bit more time to help you with construction. Depends on how the term starts and how my raffle plans go.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:10:09

OK folks. PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool.

Ta smile

Pidj count me in, need wool again though. So sad to be needed again so soon sad

theglove Wed 31-Aug-11 11:12:48

If you still need any knitters, I'd like to knit.
Very sad circumstances again.

X post sorry, have now pm'd

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:13:28

I'll be out for a couple of hours but will get back to you all asap.

belledechocchipcookie Wed 31-Aug-11 11:16:15

Thank you Knotty.

100years Wed 31-Aug-11 11:18:34

I can't help making squares for this one I'm afraid, but I think there is enough wool left in the stuff I sent to purple with my Magic8 squares to make another square if she can use it to make a square, and I'm happy to have my squares shared around the blankets in whatever way they can be. I'll ask purple what she thinks when she receives the ones I sent her yesterday.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:20:52

Aw come on, 100 years! Would take your mind off labour wink

Please do not apologise for not knitting this time. Methinks you have enough on your plate. Best wishes with your baby, my lovely smile

Sending a PM now Knotty.

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 31-Aug-11 11:25:33

Am happy to do the co ordination for you Knots. Really sad another blanket is needed.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:27:33

since when have you been co-ordinated? grin You haven't tried that Shred yet then?

Cheers lovely but I'm charting it all up I type [multiskilled]

100years Wed 31-Aug-11 11:27:52

Thanks Knotty. I've pm'd purple and see what she says about what there is left. I would happily do some if I could be sure I would have time to do it before the arrival, but you just don't know, and I don't want to let anyone down. Thanks for the best wishes.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:28:22

I will have a knitter for you to send to though.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 11:29:33

That was for Piste, not you 100Years smile

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 11:31:16

Enjoy your new person, 100. I'll check pm's now then before the entire top level management descends on me for a meeting <eek>

100years Wed 31-Aug-11 11:33:50

Thanks knotty, yeah I did gather that.

And thanks purple. I'll go back to the other thread now.

I still have one or two (depending on how much one ball yields) to do for magic8's blanket, which I will try to get done today.

How urgently are we trying to do the blanket for baby Erin? If next week is not too late I will have time on my hands then, I will struggle to do any more this week than finish the squares I have already agreed to do.

My DD is four weeks old. I can't even begin to imagine how whatevertheweather feels. Actually I can, and it makes me feel ill. sad

cloudpuff Wed 31-Aug-11 11:59:50

I can crochet as many squares as possible, I'm waiting for wool for magics blanket but will be able to work on both at the same time.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 12:00:19

I'm not a mum but I know what you mean, georgi sad there are so many tragedies playing out every day, it's comforting to know that we can alleviate a little of the suffering

Pinot Wed 31-Aug-11 12:02:18

Heartbreaking news.

I'm in and my knitter songbird should be messaging you pidjin my chick (we've spoken on facebook to sort it).

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 12:08:37

Georgi, if you're happy to pair with me again, I can send you more wool - if I send the same colour, it might help? Would that be ok, then it'll be one less for Knotty to worry about and I still have your details on PM so it's easy.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 12:08:56

Pinot, do you want to sort out wool with SongBird directly?

Georgimama Wed 31-Aug-11 12:12:31

That would be great thumbwitch, thank you so much.

I've PMed knotty to ask her not to pair me with a donor as I have you.

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 12:14:24

Georgi, that's fab - I'll get onto it straight away. Would one more ball do you, or would you like 2? Happy either way. smile

Georgimama Wed 31-Aug-11 12:14:49

I remember cheeseandgherkins' posting about Scarlett, so so unfair all these losses. I say let's do it.

Fo0ffyShmoofer Wed 31-Aug-11 12:20:13

I'd like to send money please if someone can PM me where to send it.

herbietea i've just ordered from them. you're right about next day despatch before 3pm. they've also just sent me a voucher code which is too late for me but might be of use to others.

5% off with NEWSLETTER voucher code. HTH smile

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 12:22:57

Please could you PM me details of how I go about getting involved?

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 12:48:58

PMed you, Holly.

OpheliaBumps Wed 31-Aug-11 13:14:06

I can knit, can someone let me know what wool & colours please?

I'm on holiday next week, so probably can't start till I get back on 10th, will that be ok?

angelpantser Wed 31-Aug-11 13:31:50

Happy to knit or crochet again. I can take 3 or 4 balls worth on if I can be matched to a donor or donors.

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 14:20:22

Georgi - 2 balls of same wool ordered, from the same place so chances are the dye lot will be the same (plus I had everso cunningly ticked "remember me" on the checkout forms so didn't have to retype everything!)
I was going to get a cream ball instead of 2 greens but there wasn't one in stock there, so you have two more balls of green. Hope that's ok smile
And have a [star]!

I'll be happy to take on a couple of squares again, if I can be matched to a donor?

LadyWellian Wed 31-Aug-11 14:38:51

So sad that we need so many blankets, but of course count me in. I've run out of wool doing Magic8's squares though, so would appreciate being matched with a donor this time.

I can block a couple of squares tonight, and I have a SAE that Lydia has sent me, so could get them to Pidj quickly if need be.

Knotty I'll PM you.

SoupDragon Wed 31-Aug-11 14:46:37

I'm more than happy to contribute squares for C&G too.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 14:52:06

Wow, what a response in just 7 hour!

Don't forget Lydia is getting some from her wholesale rep today - that's the best way to get exactly the right stuff because she's "one of us"

Georgimama Wed 31-Aug-11 14:52:45

thanks thumbwitch, I am getting quite fond of that green! Second butterfly nearly finished and third won't be far behind - intention being one for each of magic8's blankets but if they don't get spread across the three it isn't a big deal.

Will get cracking asap on next batch.

Ive just had my rep in, ive ordered some more yarn which should be here friday/monday. If anyone does want any let me know, same as last time £3 a ball. Unfortunately i will have to charge postage which is £1.58 for one ball, £1.96 for 2/3 balls. Ive gotta do nursery run so i'll try and post links to the colours ive ordered later x x

GrownUpNow Wed 31-Aug-11 15:10:56

I'll knit some squares if I am matched with a donor. Been itching to knit and knowing it's going to something worthy would be great.

crazynanna Wed 31-Aug-11 15:16:07

Just been made aware of the Blanket threads (newbie) smile
You lot are so wonderful! I now know I made the right decision joining Mumsnet.
I am really rubbish at knitting/crochet/sewing blush, but if there is a way I can donate funds dor yarn and wool and stuff,I would be so happy to smile

crazynanna Wed 31-Aug-11 15:16:43

Pinot Wed 31-Aug-11 15:18:29

Yay nanna! Message the OP and you can buy wool and have it sent on to your allocated knitter. smile

LadyWellian Wed 31-Aug-11 15:19:44

Can someone link to the butterfly pattern please? Or PM me the chart if not. I'm sure it's somewhere in the 34 pages of the other thread but I'll get fired if I go looking for it now.

crazynanna Wed 31-Aug-11 15:24:48

Yay Pinot smile
Will definitly do that...I think it is wonderful <snotting and crying whilst typing>

Fontsnob Wed 31-Aug-11 15:28:08

OK, will buy wool and send it to someone with greater skill than I PM Lydia and Purple?

Fontsnob Wed 31-Aug-11 15:29:14

Or..Grownupnow can I be your donor?

Georgimama Wed 31-Aug-11 15:29:51

I'm doing this one LadyWellian, if done in the specified wool on 4mm needles it comes up at 6 x 6 if you keep the tension fairly snug. It's fairly easy - I have conquered my fear of moss stitch thanks to this project.

TinyPawz Wed 31-Aug-11 15:30:50

I'm a beginner at knitting and crocheting and would love to contribute to a blanket. Does it matter that I am not an expert/experienced crafter

Georgimama Wed 31-Aug-11 15:36:52

Tiny I'll take the liberty of answering you - no it does not matter! Plain garter stitch or stocking stitch would be fine (can't crotchet at all myself). I think the only thing the organisers are "strict" about is using the right wool so that the blankets wash and wear as well as possible.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 15:37:37

Folks, if you are offering skills or money, PM me smile

I've started the matching process. Some of you will be getting PMs about now.

Some later...

crazynanna Wed 31-Aug-11 15:39:22

Messaged you back,Knotty smile

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 15:39:28

Tiny, we welcome all levels smile

We've had lovely people actually learn how to knit in order to contribute.

Plain squares are great and look fantastic between the fancier ones. They show each other off beautifully.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 15:44:48

*Reposting wool details:

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK
Rowan Cashsoft DK

Colours: blues, purples, pinks, greens, silvers, creams

Wool available from LydiaTheTattooedLady for a very reasonable rate. PM her - she's a bit further up thread.

Wool also available online.*

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 15:48:49

If you need wool from a donor, could you PM me your address if you haven't done so already?

As you were.

duchesse Wed 31-Aug-11 16:14:22

I can knit but can't spare any money at the moment. I'd like to contribute to this blanket for Whatever.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 16:25:11

One plain garter stitch square with half the stitches dropped is just as valued as the dozens sent by experienced crafters.

I can knock out granny squares by the dozen, others struggle with each stitch. I don't give a flying toss how fancy your square is, it is enough that you care about a stranger and want to bring them some comfort

That is all for now until I remember what else I wanted to say

Im relatively new here and have seen these threads before and wondered about them.
Id like to help,I can knit. Would I be of use being in the usa,I dont know if I can get the right kind of wool.
Could someone please explain how things work and If I can help id be honored to be included

Fontsnob Wed 31-Aug-11 16:50:41

Okay, am PMing Knotty.

LadyWellian Wed 31-Aug-11 16:54:42

Thanks Georgi. I've recently conquered my fear of moss stitch too, though I'm afraid the words 'keep the tension fairly snug' struck fresh terror into my heart - I don't reaally do 'snug' grin

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 17:05:07

the wool is available in the states so you should be able to get some.

We're doing this new blanket and another one too so I think you probably have time.

As much as I hate to say it, there will probably be more blankets. If your squares don't arrive in time for this one, we can always use it for others. I have just seen the link to this thread. I actually can hardly type through the tears - I just cannot believe that you are all willing to make and give this amazing wonderful gift to a complete stranger. Please let me know where I can send some money too - it is enough that everyone is willing to give up their time for us.

I don't know if cwwm said but I will be giving the blanket to my elder dd Katie and telling her it was made by the loveliest ladies for her from Erin and that when she has it over her it will be Erins way of giving her a cuddle.

Honestly you will never ever know how much this means to me and my family at this dark time. A thousand thank you's xxxxx

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 17:06:50

Trout, if you can get the right wool then please send me squares and they'll be welcomed. We've had contributions from canada, new zealand and thailand before so I don't see why we can't have america too!

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 17:08:45

More than happy to do it for you, WTW - anything to be able to help in the smallest way possible.

Pidjin - and Australia! grin

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 17:09:18

Wtw, thank you. Those are exactly the reasons people want to be involved in projects like this and hard evidence like your post make it even more worth it [star]

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 17:09:19

Wtw, thank you. Those are exactly the reasons people want to be involved in projects like this and hard evidence like your post make it even more worth it [star]

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 17:09:24

Here you go, Trout:
USA Debbie Bliss supplier

I can buy some wool if someone's looking for donations. 'fraid my knitting skills are pretty poor and are definatly not up to standard for a precious blanket.

How do I do this?

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 17:14:10

PM me, youarekidding. Thanks.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 17:17:17

a woolly hug is exactly what we intended. smile We hope that it brings some comfort to you all in these difficult times.

I've asked that some knitters include the initials 'E' and 'K' for your girls. If there is anything else you would like, we'll do our very best.

Done knotty

I love the idea of a 'hug from Erin'. What a lovely way of putting it WTW.

TimeForCake Wed 31-Aug-11 17:30:19

I think the 'hug' idea is just lovely too Wtw, it will mean a lot to Katie I am sure. My condolences to you and your family and hoping the blanket brings you all a little comfort.

Thanks for the pm knotty. 11 squares and you have just learnt how?! Wow! [v impressed emoticon]. smile

hairypotter Wed 31-Aug-11 17:33:05

whatever your post is so beautiful. What a lovely way to put it, a woolly hug from her little sister. Again, I am so so sorry for your loss, and may this bring some small shred of comfort.

WTW we are glad to be able to bring you and your family some small comfort at this sad time. I'm so very sorry for the loss of your baby daughter Erin.

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Wed 31-Aug-11 18:47:32

I'm sorry to be a nuisance but I offered to donate this morning, either wool or money. The thread has moved on a lot since then but I'm not sure what I should do/who I should contact? Can someone point me in the right direction pretty please ...

I promise I'm not completely hopeless, and I will be able to find the post office, my purse etc grin

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 19:12:28

TinyWee, pm knottylocks and she'll find you a crafty match [star]

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 19:34:42

TinyWee, I've got you on my list smile

I'm doing the bedtime routine thing before finishing off the matching.

Great name btw.

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Wed 31-Aug-11 20:20:12

Thanks ladies I wasn't meaning to be pushy, just worried I missed something I was supposed to know! If that makes any sense!

Thanks knotty I like yours too, its very apt for myself and 3dds, lost count how many combs I've snapped this year grin

NessaRose Wed 31-Aug-11 20:31:45

Knotty, have PM'ed you.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 20:33:37
Tsil Wed 31-Aug-11 20:51:52

Knotty I have pm'd you. I donated for magic8 but all the incredible knitters on that thread inspired me to learn so can knit basic squares/patterns.

If I could be matched with a donor that would be great but if not I can probably get the wool myself.

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 21:03:36

Yay Tsil!! Go for it grin If you're anywhere near me (New Forest) I'll teach you the superior art of crochet wink

purplepidjin Wed 31-Aug-11 21:05:33

Oh and everyone - don't forget Lydiathetattooedlady runs a wool shop and has lots of the exact right wool in stock at the discount price of £3 a ball - put some business a MNer's way and get exactly the right wool sent to exactly the right place without having to go through complicated explanations!

BornToFolk Wed 31-Aug-11 21:09:02

I've just seen Whatevertheweather's thread and would like to knit some squares.

I hope it brings some comfort to you and your family WTW. I'm so sorry for the loss of Erin.

GetOnYourDancingShoes Wed 31-Aug-11 21:16:21

If any more knitters/crocheters are needed, I'd like to help. It's the anniversary of my son's death today and I'd like to do something positive IYSWIM.
If someone could let me know where to send the squares, I'll get going as soon as possible.

Lydia can you tell us your website?
or is that naughty <looks around furtively> i'm looking to buy wool for other projects too smile

So sad purple and Knotty.

I've done seven granny squares for Magic8's blankie but have run out of wool now (will be posting them tomorrow with leftoverwool for edging). I'm happy to do some more for the other blankets if you have more donors than crafters.

Sending whatevertheweather and cheeseandgherkins a woolly hug.

Shoulddohousework Wed 31-Aug-11 21:27:15

I cannot knit or crochet but would be willing to donate money/wool whatever is required for such a sad cause although what everyone is doing is lovely!

I have just put a few photos of Erin on my profile for a short while if anyone would like to see. I totally understand if people do not want to as they are quite sad (don't know how else to word it sad ) I specifically put the one of E and K together on there so you could see the lucky recipient of your wonderful blanket x

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 31-Aug-11 22:00:15

Oh my word Whatever...
I'm so very sorry for the loss of baby Erin and hope this blanket and the woolly hug it brings may give you and your family some small shred of comfort. x

TimeForCake Wed 31-Aug-11 22:11:50

Words don't seem to be enough sad but I wanted you to know that I have looked at your precious photos of little Erin. What a lovely one of your girls together to treasure. Thank you for sharing them and showing us all which special little girl will soon be receiving woolly hugs.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 22:14:45

Whateverthe weather,

thank you for sharing some precious moments with us. I am so very sorry for your loss. It is very clear how very loved Erin will always be. My thoughts are with you all. x

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 22:16:13

QuickLookBusy Wed 31-Aug-11 22:30:34

Such a lovely thing you knitters are doing!

I'm not great with a needle so would like to contribute some wool or money, whichever is easiest for the organisers.

Thank you for sharing WTW, your daughters are beautiful and an absolute credit to you. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.x

Shoulddohousework Wed 31-Aug-11 22:40:00

Oh WTW those pictures are beautiful, Thank you for sharing them - So sorry for your loss!

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 22:57:57

I'll get the matches out to everyone tomorrow.

If you asked for wool and haven't PMed me your address, you'll need to please.

KnottyLocks Wed 31-Aug-11 23:00:23

Details for wool are up thread for those buying.

I've only just seen this thread, thank you so much for the mention as well, I have been struggling a lot recently and would be honoured to have a blanket made. Thanks for mentioning me Thumbwitch.

WTW I was told of your thread and I'm so sorry for your loss, both your daughters are beautiful. I haven't been strong enough to read through it yet but I will sit down and do so tomorrow. I felt a lot of disbelief at first, numbness and I really didn't believe it could be happening. Again, I'm so sorry for you sad

Thumbwitch Wed 31-Aug-11 23:53:00

You're wlecome, C&G. smile

Peachy Wed 31-Aug-11 23:56:05

Purple can you let me know where to send a square or 2 please? Won't be hundreds- you know why, bloody time- but I really want to do it.

Thanks X

KnottyLocks Thankyou Ive ordered some wool, none of the stores listed were close enough to get to easily.I just hope it arrives in time for me to get stuff there. At the risk of seeming stupid, what size squares am I knitting?

4mm needles
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Sep-11 07:00:03

Don't worry, we haven't set a last posting date for this blanket yet. We still have people making and sending squares for Blanket 5 so you have a while yet.

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Sep-11 08:27:16

I've PMed donors this morning with matches.

If you are a donor and haven't heard from me, it is probably because I'm waiting for a few addresses from woolly volunteers.

If you haven't heard by this afternoon, please PM me.

Thank you all for your support. So many people offering to help. You [stars].

Georgimama Thu 01-Sep-11 08:39:31

WTW your children are beautiful. Cheese I am so sorry for your loss too. Words seem so inadequate.

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Sep-11 08:50:18

Oh Blimey, sorry Cheese. I missed your post: my head's in spreadsheets.

I am so very sorry. I hope our blanket can bring you a little comfort too.

wtw and c&g I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. I'm so sorry for both your losses. wtw what a special picture you have of your two girls.

I'm very happy to knit a few squares if I can be matched, will PM knotty

Thank you. I posted some photos of Scarlett before but I've got another link to them now with a few newer ones of her grave and flowers sad Obviously they're quite sad and the ones of her are when she'd just been born after being inside me for 4 days before I was induced (we knew she'd died). I'll try and add it to my profile also. I added one this morning of Scarlett with dh too. Oh and at the time I couldn't scan the ones of her so they are a photo of the photo if that makes sense.

Tsil Thu 01-Sep-11 09:37:42

WTW and Cheese I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is breaking or you both and I hope you stay strong in the coming months.

Purple - many thanks for the offer unfortunately I live near the east coast grin luckily my MIL knits and when I have a spare 5 hours minutes she is going to help me knit more than a hat and scarf.

Georgimama Thu 01-Sep-11 10:47:30

She's beautiful Cheese, but then you know that. I am so sorry.

TimeForCake Thu 01-Sep-11 10:49:04

Such precious photos Cheese and you have put so much time and thought into Scarlett's grave. I am very sorry for your loss and hope you are feeling a little stronger. I hope our blanket will help in some tiny way. Thank you for sharing Scarlett's photos with us.

cheese Scarlett is absolutly beautiful.

I am so sorry for your loss. sad

Have also posted this on magic8s thread.

Fo0ffyShmoofer Thu 01-Sep-11 11:55:12

WTW and C+G Your precious girls are so beautiful. So sorry for both of your losses.

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Sep-11 12:05:10

I'm getting my blankets and threads muddled confused

I posted this on Magic8's blanket thread when it was for you lovely lot.

I'm out for the rest of the day but will answer any PMs on my return.

I know that some donors haven't had their matches yet: I'm waiting on a few addresses. I haven't forgotten you

We haven't set a last posting date yet, but realistically it won't be for at least another 14 days or so as Magic8's squares are still in production.
The last posting date for Magic8's squares is Friday 9th September.

Thumbwitch Thu 01-Sep-11 12:39:17

I've just done the same thing so re-posting it here, sorry! blush
Lovely ladies, I have had a message from CheeseandGherkins about her other children's initials - they are C, M and E - so if anyone could please offer up those letters, as well as the S for Scarlett, that would be lovely, thank you.
[stars] for everyone - you're all so wonderful.

MojitoTime Thu 01-Sep-11 15:35:25

Hi everyone

I haven't read the whole thread, but I have a ball of purple wool that I would like to donate if it is still needed?

TimeForCake Thu 01-Sep-11 15:56:18

If you pm Knottylocks, Mojito, I'm sure she'll be able to sort you out. She has been matching donors and crafters. Think there is a certain type of wool though for these blankets? Knotty will know the details!

Peachy Thu 01-Sep-11 18:09:55

Cheese <<hugs>>

Peachy Thu 01-Sep-11 18:14:08

'Wool is:

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are much of a muchness and can be combined.

4mm knitting needles
cast on 33 stitches (for knitters)

6" squares
Colours: blues, purples, pinks, greens, silvers, creams

PM knottylocks if you are offering to knit/ crochet or donate'

(Sorry was having trouble finding the details each time so thought that others might as well?)

I've got some foxglove which is a lovely heathery pink colour Rowan wool. they will be plain as I haven't knitted since years back, but I hope they help.

KnottyLocks Thu 01-Sep-11 18:22:38

Thanks, Peachy.

Foxglove sounds lovely.

Plain squares are brilliant and they look fantastic sewn next to fancier ones. They really compliment each other. The wool is so'll spoil you!

Cheese so sorry for your loss, like others have said your daughter is beautiful and I too hope the blanket will bring some comfort to you and your family. I will light a candle for baby Scarlett at mass on Sunday as well as one for baby Erin. You and WTW are in my thoughts and prayers.

SDTGisAnEvilGenius Thu 01-Sep-11 19:43:47

I've got 3 or 4 squares ready to go, and I'd be grateful if they could be split between the two blankets. If I can knit any more in time, I will.

I just hope they provide a bit of comfort at such a difficult time, and my heart goes out to Whatevertheweather.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 07:10:26

SDTG, I've PMed you.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 09:00:31

I've matched people up...I think.

Wool should be on its way shortly to:

Donors, you should've had a PM from me.

If anyone has asked for wool and isn't on the list above, please PM me.

If you have offered to donate wool and haven't heard from me, please PM me.

There are many more woolly crafty folk who are getting their own wool who I haven't listed above.

Thank you all so much. [star]

CoffeeIsMyFriend Fri 02-Sep-11 09:11:46

Thanks I have been matched, have contacted wool lady and wool should be on its way soon to my knitter. grin

knotty you are a *

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 09:28:00

I feel I should, for balance, list donors too:

I'll get back to you with the list of woolies who are making with wool their already have and/or buying.

<scatters more [stars]>

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 09:33:43

The rest of the wonderful woolly posse:

Georgiemama, I missed you off the first list. Sorry blush

If I've missed anyone else, please let me know.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 09:41:18

Ack, missed:

Morning, wow that is a very impressive list of donors and knitters. I feel a bit sad as i bumped in to my friend who lost a little girl at 38 weeks and keep thanking about whatever and cheese,my thoughts are very much with you x x

i just thought id let you know ive had the yarn in this morning. I have replied to some pms but have a lot that im tryiong to ge through. Im sending the sa me message to everyone to make it a bit quicker, i hope you dont think im being rude...i'll pop it here too if anyone wants any yarn. Any ordered and paid for before 3.30 will be sent today x x

Hi! I have had the yarn delivered this morning, have you a colour preference? I have cream, light pink, light blue, light green and lilac.
The paypal address is
If you could pop in the message box on paypal your mn name so i know who nhas sent it.
It will be £4.58 for one ball and postage and £4.98 for 2 balls and postagex

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 10:18:21

Lydia, is that the right amount for 2 balls? Doesn't seem right.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 10:30:37

I've PMed you, Lydia.

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Fri 02-Sep-11 11:33:16

Lydia I don't have a paypal account, can I still order from you? Do you have any other methods of accepting payment?

Can anyone recommend me a supplier, if I am not able to order from Lydia?

Thanks x

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 11:35:10

TinyWee, PM Lydia. I think she's pretty busy smile

OpheliaBumps Fri 02-Sep-11 12:34:57

Knotty's right Lydia, you've added the extra postage but not the extra ball of wool!

I've just paypalled you, so I'd do a 2nd payment of £3.00 to cover the 2nd ball of wool.

TimeForCake Fri 02-Sep-11 12:38:17

At the risk of interfering blush I agree with Knotty that Lydia's price for 2 balls doesn't look enough. I know she must be snowed under, so have just copied below what she said previously. Don't want you making a loss Lydia but sorry if this is interfering! At least if those of us buying wool today go by this pricing, it should mean Lydia won't have to cover all the p&p.

Copied from lydia's earlier post:

If anyone does want any let me know, same as last time £3 a ball. Unfortunately i will have to charge postage which is £1.58 for one ball, £1.96 for 2/3 balls.
(I shall now hide in case I have made a woolly balls up on behalf of Lydia smile)

Oh flipping heck...yes sorry its £7.98 for 2. Sorry Ive had masssive winter order in that im trying toget put a way in between customers foraging and ripping ball bands tobits!

tinywee i can do card payments? For magic8s blanket 2 donors emailed me their details and i put through and obviously deleted any details!

duchesse Fri 02-Sep-11 13:36:06

Question, since this is the first time I've knitted squares for a MN blanket: Do the squares have to be plain knit or do people do whatever stitch/pattern they feel happy doing?

Anything goes duchesse so long as you use the right wool and make it a 6" square.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 13:59:03

Duchesse, there are some pics of our previous blankets here along with some photos of Edgar's quilt, also created by Mumsnetters. Hope it gives you an idea of what we're aiming for.

As SongBird said, any style as long as it's the specified wool and is 6".

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Fri 02-Sep-11 14:37:34

I can't use my PM today, im posting from my phone so it might be that.

Lydia that's great news and I will email you my details I am off out for a bit, (tis my birthday!) But I will do it when I get back home.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 18:24:52

Hey, TinyWee, it's my birthday too! Happy Birthday grin

And like you, I'm off out for summat drinkable

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Sep-11 18:25:43

Also, TinyWee, I have another mission for you wink

happy birthday tinywee and knotty...i just want to make people aware that the colours ive got arent the same as the ones from magics blanket as they are from the new seaon. The Other ones were from last summer where as these ones ordered are from this winter, they are so new they arent even on the debbie bliss website yet as i had hoped to link the shade card so people can get an idea of the colour they are ordering The cream is also a dark cream, whereas the one from magics is white-cream. I hope that makes sense and no one is disappointed confused

crazynanna Fri 02-Sep-11 19:16:05

Happy Birthday Knotty! smile

Happy birthday tinywee and knotty smile

crazynanna Fri 02-Sep-11 19:33:03

...and Tinywee blush

Happy birthday ladies! Enjoy the wine and some [cake] smile

I will await my one or two balls as I couldn't decide! Knotty has told the donor to decide! blush

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Fri 02-Sep-11 20:03:04

Happy birthday knotty xxx

Thanks ladies for the birthday wishes x

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Fri 02-Sep-11 20:06:09

Ok knotty, hit me with it ...

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 02-Sep-11 20:07:14

Someone will receive wool from me tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I posted it first class this afternoon.

I am learning to knit, it's going OK but ver ver slow, and this is wool I ordered for me rather ambitiously. Anyway it came first thing and I'm sending it to you instead my lovely Crafty type, then you can get on, and I have ordered more for me. I'm not going to need it for a while!

It is a ball of light cream and one which is a sort of pale lilac pink, I really hope you like it, and I am confident you will make something totally gorgeous. (((Hugs for my lovely knitter)))

And Happy Birthday to our twins!
[lovely nosh]

Morning all smile

Thanks for all your well wishes, you [stars].

Right, it's business as usual. Stand by your beds.

I'm returning your PMs.

YougreatPamplemousse Sat 03-Sep-11 07:10:03

I'm late to the party this time - could someone match me to a donor then I will PP Lydia for some wool.

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 07:20:41

PampleMoose, you're on my list. PM me your address, please.

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 07:23:00

ooops, sorry, that should be Pamplemousse blush.

It's early.

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 07:27:29

Please don't worry about the colours. They sound lovely and we like variety smile

YougreatPamplemousse Sat 03-Sep-11 09:25:52

Knotty I meant a knitter - it you leave me to knit it will look like a macrame owl!!

SoupDragon Sat 03-Sep-11 09:40:05

I am crocheting bear squares, aiming at one per blanket... Please remind me how many blankets we are doing?!

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 09:55:19

Soupy, currently we are working on blankets for:

Magic8 - being organised on another thread

And on this thread:

Pamplemoose, a macrame owl would be a lovely addition grin
No worries, I've stuck you on the donor list. I'm waiting on a couple of addresses from some knitters now.

SoupDragon Sat 03-Sep-11 10:11:25

Is it just one blanket for each of Cheese and Weather?

Magic8 I have done and sent off.

SoupDragon Sat 03-Sep-11 10:13:19

This time round the bears are a fawn colour and the outside a rather nice purple from the Rowan version.

I also thought I'd ordered a ball of cream Debbie Bliss but it has turned out to be too yellow!

I am really getting confused at to what blankets we have done etc! I think I have done all of them, I think I have sent of in total for 5 so far, and thought Whatevertheweather was number 6, is Cheeseandgerkins number 7 then?

Georgimama Sat 03-Sep-11 10:18:56

Yes. As we are working on both at the same time we just didn't start a third thread, but we are doing 3 blankets for magic8's daughters and one each for WTW and cheese.

OK thanks! It was a bit more confusing as I think after number 4 was done I got a random ball of wool sent to me, checked if we were doing any, none needed at the time, so kept it, and used it for Whatevertheweather. Mind you, doesn't take much to confuse me! grin

Mouseface Sat 03-Sep-11 11:41:34

Morning ladies.

LadyW - I thank you grin

Can I just say that I think these blankets are such a lovely idea. Long may the 'kindness of strangers' continue. xx

puddleofpiddle Sat 03-Sep-11 12:53:40

I'd like to sign up again if you need and more squares, just finished a couple for magic8's blanket. Is it possible to be matched with a wool donor this time as I'm nearly out of yarn!

Purpleknitting mum I will send you two balls am going to pm Lydia now.

Pistey was it me you posted to? My yarn has just arrived, a cream and lilac ball, lovely colours. I'll crack on once dd has decided to nap. Thank you!

Whatever and Cheese, my heart goes out to you both. Your pictures are beautiful.

DutchOma Sat 03-Sep-11 13:17:18

I've just received two balls that I ordered myself from Lydia, she is really on the ball grin. Better start knitting before the two balls from a donor arrive, or as Knotty says, I will be buried under a yarn mountain.

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 14:04:04

Blankets made this year so far:

Edgar ( who also had a quilt)
Blanket 4, made from surplus squares from the others. We're hoping to use this to raise money for Winston's Wish charity. I'm still working on the details.

Working on: Magic8 (which is actually 3 blankets)

And these two.

Mouseface Sat 03-Sep-11 16:54:14

<rushes in, grabs Knotty and swings her round>

You are a [star], a really shiny selfless [star]. smile

You all are.

I've PM Lydia with my order. smile

Thanks Knotty! I forgot about the Winstons Wish one

Ooo thanks HotSummerNights! I shall look forward to them, think I will do a 2 colour granny square and then not sure!

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 17:21:52

Mouseface, calm down! grin. It's a team effort!

<feels a bit dizzy confused>

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Sat 03-Sep-11 17:26:41

Oh I'm wondering now how old knotty is ... and if we were separated at birth ...

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 17:29:21

OK quick reminder:

If you have the skills (and worry not if you haven't - I certainly don't),
we're looking for initial squares for Cheese's blanket - C, M, E, S,

and initials for Whatevertheweather's blanket are K and E.

I know at least one of you is on the case.

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 17:30:34

TinyWee, mentally I'm very very young.

<remains an enigma>

DutchOma Sat 03-Sep-11 17:46:33

Yes, have done one E and am half way through the second.

Georgimama Sat 03-Sep-11 18:37:34

I will try and find some charts with initials. Am waiting for my wool to arrive in post - are we anywhere near a final posting date?

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 19:08:01

Georgi, I'm just sorting that at the moment: probably be 10-14 days time.

I'll confirm the exact date tomorrow.

As Pidj is going to be busy with Magic's blanket, it'll be me doing this one.

so Knotty, are these squares being sent to you?

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 19:39:36

Afraid so, PKM

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Sep-11 19:52:57

Pidj will be available as my expert long as I feed her cake.

SE13Mummy Sat 03-Sep-11 20:07:14

I've got all confused and posted the below message on the wrong thread blush start-of-term-itis is to blame.

Anyway, on Thursday I ordered 3 balls of wool (jeans, soft teal and mauve) and sent them West. If you are the arty recipient of these please don't feel you have to use all of them up on this project.... there were too many gorgeous shades to choose from and I couldn't make up my mind. Please feel free to put surplus wool towards another MN knitting project or anything else you're making that could use it.

Thank you for being willing to share your knitting skills so that I am able to donate.

Oh silly postman! He tried to deliver my wool today and we were out. Apparently wool is too large to squish through my letter box.
I'm getting itchy fingers waiting to start as I am not a speedy knitter.

Good job ds is back to nursery on Monday and I can crack on then.

Hope everyone is doing well with their wooly endeavours! smile

trumpton Sun 04-Sep-11 08:49:13

I have had the most enormous tooth abcess since Thursday ( think cartoon stylee swollen face ) am dosed up with mega anti=biotics and wobbly leg pain killers. I have done one square for Whatevertheweather's blanket and hope to be well enough to do the other 2 before wed. What is your last day for delivery ? I reallly want to be part of this blanket too and will send just the first square if I am going to be out of time,The wool is DB008 the colour of the sky over Port Erin yesterday.
yours < with Ttowel tied round jaw>

I have got the wool for Cheese's squares ready to knit . It's a lovely pink the same colour as the seathrift that flowers out at Scarlett.

trumpton Sun 04-Sep-11 09:02:37

I am so sorry if I have mixed up names and blankets,I am doing squares for magic8 and whatever at the moment.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 11:14:41

Ouch, Trumpton. I hope you feel better very very soon.

I'm getting confused myself. confused

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 11:29:52

The colour of the sky over Port very apt sad

VerityBrulee Sun 04-Sep-11 12:01:57

I have finished two squares, one of which is an E. I'm using cashsoft in a soft greeny blue. I have enough for one more square. Any preferences on what I do? I can do any letter.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 12:14:16

Verity, a 'K' please for Erin's sister.

VerityBrulee Sun 04-Sep-11 12:37:41

Great, I'll start it now smile

Georgimama Sun 04-Sep-11 12:48:45

Verity, do you have an easy chart I could follow to do letters please?

Mouseface Sun 04-Sep-11 13:13:13

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! PayPal hates me! Lydia - can I send you a cheque? Or payment another way? Sorry. Will PM you too. x

Thumbwitch Sun 04-Sep-11 13:37:22

For Cheese&Gherkin's blanket, the letters E, M, C and S would be lovely please, if anyone fancies picking those up?

Mouseface - Paypal hates me too. It's mutual grin

VerityBrulee Sun 04-Sep-11 13:40:43

Georgimama, I have great charts in a book called Natural Nursery Knits by Erika Knight.

If anyone wants to pm me their address, I can get dh to photocopy it and post it to you smile

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 13:49:00

A pox on Paypal, eh Mousey.

OH Excited.

I navigated paypal, ordered a ball of wool from Lydia and it should be soon winging it's way to my reciprient.

angelpantser Sun 04-Sep-11 14:12:11

My wool has arrived - many thanks to my donor. I have a pretty apricot colour and a lovely silver grey. Hopefully getting MN back on my laptop today or tomorrow (a voluntary 'ban' during the summer holidays, in case I became so absorbed in MN that I forgot to feed the family etc) so will add pictures of the squares made for Magic's blanket then.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 14:32:10

Angel, I think there is a little more on its way to you. Just remember to feed the family too.

angelpantser Sun 04-Sep-11 14:42:54

Brilliant, thanks Knotty. Big ones go back to school on Wednesday and my DS starts Reception the following week. I'll be glad to have something to do to take my mind off being the oldest mum in the playground.

MilkNoSugarPlease Sun 04-Sep-11 14:46:57

Knotty, have PMed Lydia to order a further 2 balls of wool for the second person you matched me with-won't let me PM you !

Georgimama Sun 04-Sep-11 15:13:56

When I get my wool I will do initials for Cheeses' blanket.

Thumbwitch Sun 04-Sep-11 15:53:35

Thank you Georgi - hope it comes soon! smile

Mouseface Sun 04-Sep-11 20:03:23

Sorry, I can't let this happen twice, it happened with Edgar, I couldn't get PP to work and tried to be for a way to pay although I did send cards to her and the lady who lost her husband, Richard.

Somebody MUST want my money. It's real and everything! It's not made of cheese, I promise! grin

crazynanna Sun 04-Sep-11 20:04:56

Mouseface, Knotty very kindly allowed me to send her cash (registered) smile

I have just replied to every ones pms sorry its taken me so long, i have spent a rare day off out with the kiddies! x x

Mouseface Sun 04-Sep-11 20:56:44

Lydia - thank you, panic over! xx

I have finally managed to get pictures of my squares up on my profile (had to abandon ipad and use dp's laptop). The wool used for my squares was donated by Pinot.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 22:34:46

Sounds dodgy sending me cash grin

I spent it on wool, honest.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Sep-11 22:38:11

SongBird, they are very lovely [star]

Thanks knotty will be posting to pidj in the morning. [star] to you too

purplepidjin Mon 05-Sep-11 00:17:23

Apologies for my absence, I've spent the weekend surronded by friends and volkswagens grin

I'll be home in the next hour or so, hopefully I'll be able to get through my front door past the woolly parcels! I promise I'll wash between 3 days of camping and handling the squares wink

Liberal sprinkling of [star]s

angelpantser Mon 05-Sep-11 09:23:19

Back on the laptop - hurrah.

Pictures of the squares for Magic's blankets should be on my profile. Thanks once again to Hulababy for donating the wool.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 09:26:46

Morning all smile

Last posting date for Whatever's blanket squares is Saturday 17th September. Hope that's ok with you all. Any later squares will go on Cheese's blanket as I'll be working on Whatever's first.

Squares are coming to me, not Pidj. I'll PM the address to you as early as I can this week

Please include any leftover wool - I'll use this to put the blankets together. Also include your MN name so I can tell you they have arrived.

If you'd like to send a card for Whatever and Cheese, I'll package these up with the blankets.

If you'd like your squares to go on a specific blanket, please write me a little note.

I'm off to work for a few hours. Will return any PMs on my return.

Happy crafting smile

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 09:34:45

Angel, they are lovely [star]

Are the little pink flowers embroidered on? Very cute.

Thumbwitch Mon 05-Sep-11 10:16:33

Oh God, I run the risk of becoming highly repeptitive but those squares are gorgeous, angel! So clever [star]

These blankets are going to be fabulous. smile I hope they bring the recipients lots of comfort for a long time.

YougreatPamplemousse Mon 05-Sep-11 10:30:36

I have ordered from Lydia to be sent to a MN-er SM from Shef field. I ordered last night so should be with you soon smile

The square I have seen are amazing - well done everyone.

angelpantser Mon 05-Sep-11 14:51:16

Yes the flowers on the green square are embroidered on. I've been knitting for about 35 years and intarsia is still a mystery to me.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 15:25:56

I've sent out details of where to send squares for Whatever's and CHeese's blankets.

If you didn't get the PM, please let me know.

If you got the same one twice or three times, I'm sorry. It's a bit busy in here today.

sqweegiebeckenheim Mon 05-Sep-11 15:36:59

angel those squares are amazing!

angelpantser Mon 05-Sep-11 15:44:06

Thank you all for your kind words <getting very big headed>.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 15:52:29

Intarsia is another blooming language as far as I can see.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 05-Sep-11 15:57:07

I had to look intarsia up blush & smile

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 15:58:09

Exactly, Piste!

angelpantser Mon 05-Sep-11 16:08:47

Sorry ladies - didn't mean to give you extra homework on top of all the hard work you are already doing.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 16:11:24

Angel, I was going nowhere near the thing. Hard enough speaking my own language at the moment.

I have ordered wool from Lydia should hopefully get to PKM soon.

Sorry it took so long paypal was playing up over the weekend.

SoupDragon Mon 05-Sep-11 16:57:33

I have been somewhat distracted from this by DS1 probably fracturing his ankle during rugby yesterday. Should have a nice long wait in the fracture clinic on Wednesday which will be ideal for a spot of crochetinggrin

NessaRose Mon 05-Sep-11 17:02:51

Soup your poor Ds sounds nasty. sorry about crapola typing Just come out of hopspital after having a anaphlyactic shock yesterday.
I can't wait till my woool arrives the ds's go back to school tommorow.

SoupDragon Mon 05-Sep-11 17:10:22

He's actually come off lightly I think. There was a possible hairline fracture just above his ankle bone, completely non displaced and so almost not there that they aren't sure it actually is there. Given the rough nature of the game, that's a result! I rather think he will be disappointed if he ends up with no fracture after this.

But I wasn't able to crochet whilst waiting for XRays and plastering as the pattern is on my iPad which was being fully utilised as an electronic baby sitter.

SoupDragon Mon 05-Sep-11 17:11:56

Hope you're fully recovered !

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 17:32:40

Blimey, Nessa! Hope you're feeling better. Do you know what caused the reaction?

Soupy, sounds like your DS may have got away with it. Hope so for your sake as well as his, or he'll be one frustrated boy after the novelty's worn off.

NessaRose Mon 05-Sep-11 17:54:15

Soupy, I am alot better just feellike i've been hit by a bus. and the steroids are making me sleepy and uncoordinated. Glad your ds is ok!

Knotty it was a rubber dogs toy am alergic to latex.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 17:57:52

Right Nessa, you need to get rid of the dogs. grin

(A tad biased here as I'm allergic to them)

NessaRose Mon 05-Sep-11 18:06:32

Knotty, we don't have dogs it's my dbro's! it was my own fault tho.

No worries HotSummerNights, I will let you know on here when it arrives!

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 18:13:07

If he loved you....

darksideofthemooncup Mon 05-Sep-11 18:28:20

I've just ordered wool and needles, Can someone PM me the address the squares need to be sent ? Also is there a time limit? I am a beginner so I might not be as quick as some.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 19:08:26

DarkSide, I'll PM you. Last posting date is Sat 17th Sept.

darksideofthemooncup Mon 05-Sep-11 19:15:55

Lovely, I reckon I can get them done by then :D

SoupDragon Mon 05-Sep-11 19:40:03

But why were you chewing a rubber dog toy?

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Mon 05-Sep-11 21:26:47

Right I am sitting in front of laptop, credit card at the ready.

Can someone confirm that I need to order

Debbie Bliss cashmerino DK.

And any help with shades would be most helpful ...

<thinks I may be banned in future>

hairypotter Mon 05-Sep-11 21:43:55

angel and songbird your squares are fabulous!

My wool should be on it's way to my lovely knitter today. I really wish I was a better knitter myself so I could join in more.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 05-Sep-11 21:52:52

I've copied this from earlier in the thread..

wool is.....
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 05-Sep-11 21:54:51

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Mon 05-Sep-11 22:19:13

Thanks Rather, I'm sure my wooly match said pink but I couldn't open my PMS

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 22:48:51

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 22:51:05

TinyWee, my twin, how could I possibly ban you?

Now, did you order the wool?

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Mon 05-Sep-11 22:54:22

Yes, at last I did Knotty!

I have just PM'ed you, (tis working now on laptop!)

Ah PMS=PM's, the feeling of rage that both invoke is very similar!

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Sep-11 22:55:56

Excellent. Mission accomplished.

belledechocchipcookie Mon 05-Sep-11 23:08:17

Ok, I've received wool (thank you to RatherBeOnThePute) and have started. Have received your DM with the address so as soon as I've finished I'll pop them in the post. smile

TimeForCake Tue 06-Sep-11 08:45:45

CoffeeandChocolateplease - did the wool that you received come from Lydia? Just wondering if I might be your donor? If not, I ordered a cream and lilac ball to go to the West Country last week. Hope it's arrived ok smile

I picked up my wool from the post office.
It's gorgeous stuff! It will make a gorgeously tactile blanket.

Rather glad I ordered extra for me! smile

Just got to have a shower and hope dd has a really big nap so I can get knitting!

duchesse Tue 06-Sep-11 09:19:59

I haven't received anything yet- hope it's not gone missing... {sad

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Sep-11 10:03:28

Dunno what's happened there, Duchesse. Your donor PMed me to say it had been ordered.

I'll go have a little check.

Hi! duchesse do you know if your donor got it form me? I can check my proof of postage to see when it was sent if she did x x
Im probably going to sound really silly but has the magic8 thread gone? I cant find it? Ive got 15 squares done for the blanket and imabout to start on squares for cheese and whatevers blanket.
And to sound like a broken record, everyones squares look beautiful x x

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Sep-11 12:18:15

Lydia, Magic8 thread is here

Duchesse, I've PMed your donor.

TinyPawz Tue 06-Sep-11 12:52:22

I received a lovely ball of wool today from an anon MNer. Thank you whoever (whomever?) you are.

I'll start knitting this afternoon.

I haven't received any wool yet either. Knotty can you get in touch with my donor and just confirm when it was sent etc? Looks like the postal service is a bit slow at the moment...probably due to all the mnetters sending woolly parcels up and down the country!

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Sep-11 13:51:18

Apple, your wool was ordered on the 1st but not with Lydia so it may be a little slower.

I'm at work tomorrow and Thurs so won't have much time to chase it.
Are you happy for your donor to contact you directly?

Yep, that's totally fine. I'm sure it's just being a little slow and will turn up in the next few days. Thanks for organising all of this.

GrownUpNow Tue 06-Sep-11 14:36:59

I've received two balls of wool today and started on the first square. I hope I am doing it right, co 33 st and knit until square right? I'll maybe play about with a pattern once I've done the first one.

Thank you to my donor. xx

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 06-Sep-11 14:51:07

Hey belledechocchipcookie - thank you for being my knitty person x

belledechocchipcookie Tue 06-Sep-11 14:56:33

You're very welcome. smile Such sad circumstances though. sad

NessaRose Tue 06-Sep-11 15:12:39

Knotty can you check to see if the wool has been ordered for me please? Sorry to be a pain.

Soupy how is your ds?

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Sep-11 15:43:26

Nessa, it's been ordered. How you feeling today?

NessaRose Tue 06-Sep-11 16:50:09

Thanks Knotty. I am feeling a bit better just very tired.

trumpton Tue 06-Sep-11 17:16:01

Toothache sorted. Dentist took one horrified look at face (hmm and took xrays . Put his next patient on hold and whipped tooth out. Will start squares for Whatever and Cheese' families tomorrow. Have done squares for Magic8 family and will block tonight and post tomorrow.

NessaRose Tue 06-Sep-11 17:17:39

trumpton glad its been sorted for you.

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Sep-11 17:57:37

Glad you are both on the mend. Now, take it easy, please!

Knotty - would you like us to block the squares? I've not blocked anything before but it looks fairly straightforward. I think... hmm

Pancakeflipper Tue 06-Sep-11 19:02:14

I received my ball of wool today. Thank you so very much to the person who gave the dosh and to the organised posting out person. I have started! But I am a slow knitter so gotta crack on with it. Thanks Knottylocks for sending me the details for posting.

duchesse Tue 06-Sep-11 19:14:05

I received two balls (one cream, one green) from a wool shop in Melton Mobray today, so thank you, kind donor! I shall start this evening.

Pancakeflipper Tue 06-Sep-11 19:24:42

That wool shop in Melton Mowbray must have empty shelves and the owner been standing in a queue at the post office all of yesterday with a spreadsheet the size of a small country.

theglove Tue 06-Sep-11 19:31:47

Am in a mild panic as I don't know what blocking is.

I've finished my Magic squares and will post in the morning, I hope they are ok.

TinyPawz Tue 06-Sep-11 20:37:48

Blocking??? Are you ladies trying to confuse me with technical terms?

purplepidjin Tue 06-Sep-11 20:45:20

Don't worry about blocking, i find it shrinks the holes i have to crochet into and makes the whole job harder blush plus the way I work it (and will pass on to Knotty over fruit juice espresso and cereal bars chocolate cake soon) they all end up looking the same size anyway grin

TinyPawz Tue 06-Sep-11 20:50:56

pidjin you are my hero. I was breaking out in a cold sweat.

TinyPawz Tue 06-Sep-11 20:52:21

and I dropped a bloody stitch!!!!

trumpton Tue 06-Sep-11 20:58:47

Well ! < humph> i shall just go and unblock mine then !! grin Only joking. I have only pinned them out overnight.

theglove Tue 06-Sep-11 21:14:50

Phew about the blocking.

I've put mine and Tsil's squares on my profile (I think) I hope they're ok, some of my edges are a bit wobbly, but I hope will be ok when sewn together.

purplepidjin Tue 06-Sep-11 21:17:11

Meh Trumpton's dramallamaing again hmm wink [star]

theglove, my dear, you need to make your profile public so that I can swoon in awe at your talent [star]

theglove Tue 06-Sep-11 21:19:45

Oops, I've changed it blush

pancake im the woolly shop in Melton Mowbray!
The women at the teeny weeny post office has been doing all my parcels since magic8s blanket was started, she keeps giving me funny looks when she sees the 'name' of who they are addressed to!

theglove your squares look lovely!

purplepidjin Tue 06-Sep-11 21:47:47

Lydia, I have two parcels to collect from the sorting office addressed to Purple Pidjin. Luckily, my delivery folk are all absolutely lovely and know what's going on grin it's a bit creepy knowing that the postman knows my username though, bit like being outed hmm

Glove, those are incredible! [star]

Hi! I've been looking for this thread...i didnt see it had moved blush
Ive put on my profile the 17 squares ive done, i have got tit bits of yarn left but will save them for sewing up! The blank squares i will be embroidering with initials like the purple one with the 'I' on.
Have been looking at everyones squares, they're absolutely stunning grin
x x

Oh bums this was meant to be on the other thread!

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Sep-11 22:48:48

Re blocking: I don't mind at all if they aren't blocked.

However, I really would be ever so grateful if you could sew in those pesky ends. Blummin hate doing that!

[stars] for all the very lovely squares smile

TinyPawz Wed 07-Sep-11 00:08:32

Pesky ends?

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 07-Sep-11 07:12:19

I'm so glad it's not just me. Hugs new best friend TinyPawz.
Knotty - can you be really specific about the sewing in of these pesky ends?

For my benefit I mean really clear!!!!

Thumbwitch Wed 07-Sep-11 07:16:11

loose wool ends at cast on and cast off points, TinyPawz. smile

Thumbwitch Wed 07-Sep-11 07:17:26

stick a darning needle through the line of stitches, thread the loose wool end through the eye and then pull the needle through - the loose wool end is then securely lost among the stitches. smile

Morning, pesky ends is the 'tail' as my mum called it that's left from casting on and off, you just use a darning needle to work the tail bit into the square so it can't be seen. my mum did mine I'm rubbish at it hope that makes sense, I'm sure someone will be along soon that can explain it better.

X post with thumb who did most definitely explain it better smile

KnottyLocks Wed 07-Sep-11 07:50:32

Morning all.

I'm doing my 'proper job' today. I'll answer any PMs on my return.

purplepidjin Wed 07-Sep-11 12:06:35
rubycon Wed 07-Sep-11 13:14:03

my wool has arrived, thanks to my donor.

theglove Wed 07-Sep-11 13:19:56

Thanks, I'm relieved.

Lydia your squares are lovely, very clever smile
I'm a novice, but might have a go at some of the patterns when the next batch of wool arrives, they look complicated!

Am just off to post some squares now.

Rudawakening Wed 07-Sep-11 20:02:00

Help please!

Very new to knitting but i'm having a go at some squares for the blanket, my lovely wool arrived today from Coffeeismyfriend and I have cast on 33 stitches but it is only about 4inches in length. Do i just carry on until i have 6inches?

Sorry for the daft questions confused

Ruda- I'd knit a bit and see. When I cast on it always loosens up after the first row or two, and it'll stretch a bit too.

HTH smile

Rudawakening Wed 07-Sep-11 20:27:03

Thanks I will give that a go.

puddleofpiddle Wed 07-Sep-11 20:33:48

My wool arrived yesterday and I finished the first 2 squares yesterday grin
Thankyou to my donor for the two balls of silvery grey!

DutchOma Wed 07-Sep-11 20:36:16

Two balls of lovely pink arrived today from someone who might just have put her real name on it (just might, mind, I don't quite think so, but you know who you are, flower). Thanks anyway, I hope to have some time ofver the weekend to finish the consignment, but with a funeral and a major choir practice to go to at the end of thies week, it may be Tuesday or Wednesday before they go in the post.

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Wed 07-Sep-11 20:49:52

DutchOma When I read that you got pinks, I thought for a minute your donor might be me but its obviously not.

SoupDragon Wed 07-Sep-11 21:06:31

I have had to put the squares aside for a short time as I am meant to be making a blanket for a friends baby... Which it turns out is being born on Monday. However, I have done three bear squares so I am not entirely slacking!

DS has, most likely, not actually fractured his ankle as the registrar couldn't see one on the xray. however, as he was in such a lot of pain and had clearly damaged something, he is in a cast for a fortnight. Being the good mother I am, I got him ready for school and had him there for the first day back by noon. smile

DutchOma Wed 07-Sep-11 21:10:11

Ruda, if you find you cast on too tight, use two needles (if you use the finger and thumb or long tail cast on) or three if you do a cable or knit-on method. Then pull the needle out (carefully) when you have cast on and the stitches will be bigger. Look on YouTube if you haven't a clue what I'm talking about. grin

DutchOma Wed 07-Sep-11 21:12:34

Your username does not suit what I got on my parcel. Maybe Knotty can shed light? I don't mind, I'll just get knitting.

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Wed 07-Sep-11 21:43:21

Dutch no its not me, grin

KnottyLocks Wed 07-Sep-11 22:19:15

No Oma, it's not TinyWee grin

KnottyLocks Wed 07-Sep-11 22:25:56

Soupy, that's good news it's unlikely to be a break. I think. Keep up the good mothering smile

I'm replying to PMs now.

KnottyLocks Thu 08-Sep-11 07:43:06

I'm at work again today. Will check in on my return.

NessaRose Thu 08-Sep-11 09:56:02

Soupy good news for your DS.
My wool still hasn't arrived I just want to get on with it and take my mind of a too quiet house.

I've done two squares and have a bit of wool left. Do you reckon I'll get another? Don't want to start and run out.

It is very lovely wool to work with!

theglove Thu 08-Sep-11 13:00:04

I've just heard the postie squeeze my wool through the letterbox smile

Lovely baby blue and very pale soft pink.
Thanks very much to my donor, I'l get started.

purplepidjin Thu 08-Sep-11 13:09:35

Whenis, weigh one of your completed squares then weigh the wool. If the square weighs more than the leftover wool, you don't have enough grin

Send it in with your squares and it can be used for construction smile

Cheers purple!
Sounds so obvious now you've explained it! blush
If there's not enough for knitting there is loads for sewing up. smile

purplepidjin Thu 08-Sep-11 13:24:29

I also use leftover wool to make more squares, fasten ones that aren't as secure as they could be, and put an edge on ones that are slightly too small. I will also use it to make teddies for runner-up prizes for the raffle... no wastage!

Purplepigin you are a [star]!
(sure I'm not the first to say it!)

I met our postie on the way to work today and he flagged me down and enquired curiously, 'BearGryllsBra?'. 'Mmmmm, yes that's me', blush said I.

So two squishy balls of wool in my hands now from the famous shop in Melton Mowbray (not the pork pie one!), ready to be grannified. Thank you to my lovely donor (whoever you are) [star], it was very kind of you - I'll get cracking tonight.

Funnily enough, the last time I went to Melton I went into a lovely wool shop in a little arcade - I wonder if it was yours Lydia?

Knotty - got your pm thank you, and will send the grannies to you.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 08-Sep-11 16:29:35

Well Bear thank goodness you aren't still using the name that ended in OfTheSkies!! That could have been double blush <arf>

When is the deadline for squares?

GrownUpNow Thu 08-Sep-11 16:42:24

Got nearly one square knitted. Can I ask about size? What's the general measurement of squares? I am not sure my tension is great.

HotSummerNights, my wool arrived today, many thanks! I will get started either tonight or over the weekend!

purplepidjin Thu 08-Sep-11 17:55:33

Pistey, last posting to me (for Magic) is tomorrow, and to Knotty (for Cheese and WTW) is Saturday 17th

Grownup, 6" ish please

BGB blush

theglove Thu 08-Sep-11 18:17:45

My next dilemma is, should I tidy up and hang out washing first, or crack open the wool now and get started?
I know what I want to do but feel guilty surrounded by squalor grin

Pistey mwahahahahaaa poor postie. grin Did you see there was a thread somewhere about what you keep in your bra? Needless to say I have contributed. You'll all be pleased to know that I don't keep wool and crochet hooks in there!

purple did you like your Magic Stars? smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 08-Sep-11 20:23:00

I'm thinking Bear that you are best off sticking with just the running paraphernalia in your bra. Crochet hooks might be a bit....erm... pointy

KnottyLocks Fri 09-Sep-11 10:19:37

Morning all smile

PrettyCandles and LittleDragon, wool should be on it's way to you very soon.

beargryllsbra My shop is up a little walkway next to a posh jewellers. There's a cafe in our little courtyard too! It was most likely mine as there was only one other wool shop which closed about 4 years ago but it was on a main street!
Ooh to think we may have crossed paths! x

purplepidjin Fri 09-Sep-11 11:06:34

Yes and thank you Bear! [Star]

I have a giant carrier bag full of lovely woollies already grin

Finally managed to get to the post office today so both lots have been posted smile

purplepidjin Fri 09-Sep-11 15:54:28

I've been called for a job interview on tuesday lunchtime, I'm hoping they make it later or it'll be a very fast coffee with ivy and I might get cake down my suit shock

theglove Fri 09-Sep-11 16:04:47

Well done, good luck with the interview smile

Good luck pidj!

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 09-Sep-11 16:47:46

Good luck Pidjy x

purplepidjin Fri 09-Sep-11 17:25:21

Thank you <dreams of regular hours and every weekend off>

YougreatPamplemousse Fri 09-Sep-11 17:27:20

Knotty - can you check with my donor if my wool has arrived - which I don't doubt it has as it was sent via the wonderful Lydia - not sure what colour as I asked her to chose a random colour smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 09-Sep-11 17:37:12

<<dreams of Pidj enjoying regular hours and every weekend off>>

I have just posted my Knitting to the Knotty One
Maybe I should rephrase that....
I have just posted my Knotting to the Knitty One grin

KnottyLocks Fri 09-Sep-11 17:48:20

<dreams of Pidj working regular hours with weekends off as makes meet-ups leass like herding cats>

Pamplemousse, I'm on the case!

Oi Piste, Knitty but certainly not nitty. I check regular like. grin

purplepidjin Fri 09-Sep-11 18:03:30

Oi Knitty! I mean Knotty! I can bloody do saturdays!

purplepidjin Fri 09-Sep-11 18:03:30

Oi Knitty! I mean Knotty! I can bloody do saturdays!

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 09-Sep-11 18:41:45

I think Pidj can do Saturdays.

SDTGisAnEvilGenius Fri 09-Sep-11 18:59:42

I hope I'm not too late - I have been very busy making stock for my first ever craft fair (fingers crossed people will buy it) so will be putting my squares in the post on Monday - is that going to be OK, or am I too late?

Lydia, small world eh? I'll pop in and stroke your wool next time I come to Melton then smile

Good luck with the interview purple, hope it all goes well for you.

<waves> Pistey, been out yet? I have not. blush

purplepidjin Fri 09-Sep-11 19:34:50

<Turns blackberry into crumble with ipod>

Thanks bear

Sdtg, monday posting would be best sent to knotty if that's ok? I'm hoping tuesday's interview doesn't screw up my arrangements with ivy to divide up squares sad

Done 2 squares today, photo on profile!

alibubbles Sat 10-Sep-11 09:16:19

6 in the post this morning, if anymore need knitting please could someone send me some wool! Thank you

rubycon Sat 10-Sep-11 10:13:55

what alibubbles said !!

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 12:34:39

PKM, they are lovely [star]

Ali and Ruby, I look forward to receiving yours. Thank you both.

Ali, no idea how many squares we'll have. If we need more, I'll be in touch. Thanks for the offer. smile

Thumbwitch Sat 10-Sep-11 12:54:24

PKM they are lovely and so is the heart one on alibubbles' profile.
How is it going with the [star] emoticon? Are MNHQ still thinking about it or have they said No?

Georgimama Sat 10-Sep-11 12:57:07

Thumbwitch I've just PMd you, no wool today sad

SoupDragon Sat 10-Sep-11 12:58:12

<<pokes nose in to ensure all that I haven't forgotten about this>>

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 12:58:26

Thumb, they've said they're thinking about it. Haven't said no....yet.

Thumbwitch Sat 10-Sep-11 13:09:55

Fingers crossed they say yes at some point then because we need a LOT of them for these lovely crafters on here!

Georgi - PMd you back - email sent, hope you get the wool by Tuesday sad

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 13:11:22

<waves to Soupy>

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 15:07:38

I seem to have this moment on every blanket thread at some point. Here's this one:

There's Bermuda triangle somewhere in this thread that seems to be squirrelling wool away.

Anyone else not had wool that asked for wool?
If you have already PMed me, I'm on the case.

As you were.

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 15:08:19

Er, please don't feel that you can't PM me after that grin

Knotty, do you want us to block the squares? I have made a start on one this morning, but not managed to get back to it since [farting about on computer and trying to do housework emoticon] but will try to finish that one and start another. In-laws over tomorrow so not much chance then but will see if I can squeeze a bit in!

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 16:59:12

PKM, blocked/ not blocked, either way is fine.

crazynanna Sat 10-Sep-11 17:01:15

Anything I can do to help Knotty? smile
Do you need anymore money?

TinyPawz Sat 10-Sep-11 17:28:53

Finished knitting the squares, will try to tidy up the "pesky ends" tonight/tomorrow. Either way, they'll be in the post tomorrow.

YougreatPamplemousse Sat 10-Sep-11 19:16:10

Knotty if you have more knitters but not enough wool let me know and I will order more from Lydia smile

KnottyLocks Sat 10-Sep-11 19:23:00

Nanna, I always need more money grin

Seriously though, I think we'll wait for all wool to arrive then I'll have a clearer idea. Thanks to you and Pamplemousse for your offers. I'll make a note and shout if I need you. smile

trumpton Sat 10-Sep-11 20:53:46

3 pink squares done and being blocked for Whatever.
Waiting for the next ball of wool to arrive . I ordered it and in haze of toothache forgot to pay for it ....wondered why it hadn't arrived. Ah well, will get knitting again on Monday.

arrrgghh! Cast off a square and spotted a mistake! Got to redo about 12 annoyed!

DutchOma Sun 11-Sep-11 08:46:01

I feel your pain PKM. I graphed an angel myself and tried to knit it up. Had made many mistakes, not least the fact that she was not centred on the square.
So I frogged the lot (ripit, ribbit) and have now finished the angel if not the whole square.
My gift is most certainly more for knitting than for drawing. hmm

GrownUpNow Sun 11-Sep-11 09:54:43

I have two squares knitted and one ball of wool left, so you should be getting post from me in the next few days.

SE13Mummy Sun 11-Sep-11 14:19:22

My knitter should have received her wool in the past day or two... so sorry it's late (the company I ordered it from sent it to me instead of you). It's teal, mauve and a bluey colour.

I have managed one square today and hope to do another one. Don't think I will get any more out of the bits left

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Sep-11 13:54:43

Alibubbles and Rubycon, I've got your squares. They are all gorgeous!

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Mon 12-Sep-11 17:07:22

Knotty do you know if my other match got her wool delivered? I haven't heard anything yet and haven't been able to check my emails to see if the company I ordered from have sent anything toe.

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Sep-11 17:17:50

If they sent a toe, we're in trouble.Mind you, probably so are they.

TinyWee, I go to check!

Mine are now all done, ends sewn in! Had to make one two coloured as there wasn't enough of one colour, I think it looks good! Will try and block later!

purplepidjin Mon 12-Sep-11 18:55:41

Multicoloured squares are ace! I use them to top up where I don't have enough of a colour for a whole row grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 12-Sep-11 19:32:11

I want to learn how to do stripes!! But the phrase trying to run before you can walk springs to mind.... <arf>

I also want to learn crochet because everything looks so luvv-ver-ly grin

purplepidjin Mon 12-Sep-11 19:42:03

When you get to the end of a row, tie the end of a different coloured ball of wool right next to your knitting colour. Cut the old colour off with a 6" tail and pick up the new one on your next stitch

Crochet requires coffee and cake grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 12-Sep-11 19:59:23

Definitely coffee and cake.... <sigh>

Cutting the wool in the middle sounds like something I'm bound to cock up grin

Knotty, posted mine off to you today so hopefully will be with you tomorrow. Thanks to my donor, whoever you might be!

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite Mon 12-Sep-11 20:23:16

Oi knotty! Enough with picking on my typo's. Or I will be forced to "lol" you again!

Georgimama Mon 12-Sep-11 21:20:05

Can I just check, is last posting for both WTW and cheese's blankets on Satuday? Got my wool today so need to get motoring.

purplepidjin Mon 12-Sep-11 21:22:11

Yeah but you can use the same method to reattach the same colour if necessary, Pistey

SoupDragon Mon 12-Sep-11 21:32:50

I am busy sewing the border round the outside of my first ever blanket (friends baby arrived safe and well this morning). I am rather pleased with it -it's not perfect but it looks lovely.

Then I can get back to squares for these blankets.

DutchOma Mon 12-Sep-11 21:37:45

Photos of the last batch on my profile now. Will go in the post to Knotty tomorrow.

Knotty, did you get a purple/blue "square" from me last week? I say "square" as once I'd done about half of it, I realised that it was too wide, and yet I'd struggled with my previous one sent to PurplePidjin was too small. [inexperienced knitter emoticon]

I hope it doesn't cause you too many headaches!! I'm now attempting to do the next one from a corner, but I don't really know how to m1. The stitches are increasing on the needles, but I'm fairly certain I'm doing it wrong. Will persevere and hopefully learn.

purplepidjin Mon 12-Sep-11 21:51:35

Congratulations Soupie's friend!

Stunning as ever, Oma [star]

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 12-Sep-11 21:54:42

Pidj - doing stripes must create a whole lot of pesky ends methinks?
Me also thinks I am probs being too ambitious grin

purplepidjinawoollytangle Mon 12-Sep-11 21:57:20

SoupDragon Mon 12-Sep-11 22:00:08

having struggled with putting 36 squares together, I have nothing but admiration for those involved in doing these blankets!

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 12-Sep-11 22:07:10

I love it Pidj!!!!!

purplepidjinawoollytangle Mon 12-Sep-11 22:15:09

Yeah, but Soupie - I can't knit <hangs head in shame>

SoupDragon Mon 12-Sep-11 22:36:15

Pidjin, neither can I

purplepidjinawoollytangle Mon 12-Sep-11 22:45:21

grin [star] grin

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Sep-11 22:54:59

Meow, I posted a [star] for you on the woolly shout outs thread. It ^may6 be a wee bit wider than 6" smile. Don't you worry, I'm on the case!

TinyWee, sorry, couldn't help myself. Please don't be a Lolling everywhere. Noooooooo.

Soupy, good effort. I'm booking you to help me out> I'm thinking fabric glue is the way forward grin

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Sep-11 22:56:16

See, littered with typos. Time for bed!

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Sep-11 23:01:40

Woolly thank you thread is here

I'll post your names on it when I get your squares.

puddleofpiddle Mon 12-Sep-11 23:30:55

Finished 4 squares and will post on Weds smile
I've taken pics but I've got a lot of pics to upload from hols and I've not put pics on my profile before so it may take some time to get myself organised! Thanks again to my donor grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 13-Sep-11 15:51:34

A woolly thank you thread.... Aw, that's so lovely grin

KnottyLocks Tue 13-Sep-11 15:55:47

Isn't it just grin

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 13-Sep-11 15:59:01

I completely missed that thread! But I got a [star] smile

KnottyLocks Tue 13-Sep-11 16:26:43

Yes you did. Well deserved too. smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Tue 13-Sep-11 17:21:17

Well bless you, but you may not think that when you see my PSB second needy square hmm

KnottyLocks Tue 13-Sep-11 17:30:39

Why? What have you done to it?

Shoulddohousework Tue 13-Sep-11 17:39:44

BearGryllsBra Think the wool via Lydia was from me blush
Hope they made pretty squares!?

Knotty, got mine posted off today!

KnottyLocks Wed 14-Sep-11 07:11:00

PKM, thanks. Look forward to seeing them.

trumpton Wed 14-Sep-11 08:33:34

Knotty I have 3 squares ready to post.More pink wool arrived yesterday still waiting for blue. Shall I post the 3 I have done or wait until last minute and post ( hopefully ) ?? all 9 together.??

Sorry but have been a bit hors de combat due to bluddy tooth abcess.

SO 3 now or all at once?. < Wonders about Chairing meeting whilst flashing knitting needles...decides not>

KnottyLocks Wed 14-Sep-11 09:27:38

Trumpton, entirely up to you. If it's easier to wait, that's fine.

How's the toothless tooth abcess?

Shoulddohousework (so should I!), thank you very much for the woollywool, it's lovely! there was a ball of cream and a ball of pale blue. I used the bits and bobs that I had left from the last blankie to add to them and have eight grannies almost ready to post - just got to sew in the ends, then parcel them up. Should get them in the post tomorrow hopefully to Knotty.

Thanks for sending me it smile

Just remembered I need to take some pics and put them up.

Pistey, am sure yours are gorgeoise! OT but have you been running/shredding? I have done a big fat ZERO. I'm blush of myself. Am scared to venture over to our thread .....

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 14-Sep-11 18:21:29

Lovely Bear. It would be over gilding the lily somewhat to say my squares will be gorgeoise, bless you. I'm thinking they need a crochet flower made by her Royal Knottiness attaching to make them less <lowers voice to a whisper so as not to hurt their feelings> plain

AND Bear- get Shredded!!

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 14-Sep-11 18:23:22

And what is a granny square?! Is it a specific type of design?

DutchOma Wed 14-Sep-11 20:16:15
purplepidjinawoollytangle Wed 14-Sep-11 21:54:47

It's what I'll teach you to make when we finally get round to that coffee, Pistey

I like the word gorgeoise, I think I shall aspire to be a member of the Gorgeoisie ie remember to pluck my eyebrows, wear makeup etc

Lazy tired Pidj cba to go back and check if it was this thread or the other, but here is a photo of the completed Squiffy Square grin

KnottyLocks Wed 14-Sep-11 21:55:46

Her Royal Knottiness?

<polishes tiara>

NessaRose Wed 14-Sep-11 22:04:57

I still haven't got the wool!
<Nessa stamps foot.>

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 14-Sep-11 22:38:35

Pidj - you are Gorgeoise darling!
And I'm going to hold you to that.....

So the granny square (thank you Oma) is the particular design of that crochet square? I likey grin

<bows and scrapes out of the thread>

purplepidjinawoollytangle Wed 14-Sep-11 23:01:51

The Granny Square is pretty much your basic beginner crochet project. By the time you get to the third row, you'll be an expert at treble crochet grin Never forget the seventies

I'm waiting for you to come up with a date!!!

KnottyLocks Thu 15-Sep-11 07:07:31

Nessa, I'm on the case!

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 15-Sep-11 14:36:34

You sound like you are on a mission Knotty?!

I am just finishing my second ever piece of knitting. Yaaaayyyy! I did go wrong in the middle, but like to think I sorted it.
I may even go for a third..... Time will tell.....
It would be nice to do one square that doesn't have something wrong with it grin

KnottyLocks Thu 15-Sep-11 14:51:35

Mission? Me? grin

Well done on square number 2, Piste. Look forward to seeing that one too.

NessaRose Thu 15-Sep-11 16:11:48

Thanks muchly Knotty. [star]

my squares are done! smile
i've gone for plain but textured iyswim as i like to fiddle with bits on blankets when i'm snuggled up.
i'll get dh to pop them in the post box on his way to work tomorrow.

flapjack77 Thu 15-Sep-11 20:20:01

Posted my squares off today. Have got some wool left so if you need anymore doing I can either do another square or send to someone who can knit a bit faster than me!

Pancakeflipper Thu 15-Sep-11 20:34:08

Posted my 2 squares today x

KnottyLocks Thu 15-Sep-11 20:55:34

Thanks, my lovelies. I look forward to getting them smile

Flapjack, if you would like to knit another, I'll put in with Cheese's squares. I'll be working on WTW's first so a later square is fine. Thanks.

Just seen this. If anyone still has wool to donate, I'm more than happy to do some squares.

KnottyLocks Thu 15-Sep-11 21:03:50

oooo, had somebody offering wool just earlier. I'm off to find em.

AllYourCake, PM me your address, I'll get some to you asap.

KnottyLocks Thu 15-Sep-11 21:06:29

Oi, Whenisitmysleepytime! Check the threads you started grin

Knotty sorry I didn't get to the PO today - will definitely go in the morning and try to take some pics before I go. Have done some little flowers as well but left long ends on them then you can put them where you want or bin them.

purple how did your interview go?

Pistey, one day we will go for a run, Shred, then sit down and crochet and eat cake together and I'll show you how to make a gorgeoise wee granny square. I've still NOT been out blush

KnottyLocks Thu 15-Sep-11 22:28:34

S'ok, Bear. Pidj is with me tomorrow so will be bust sorting through the squares we have already whilst stuffing our faces with cake.
I've got a few little flowers too, so will scatter yours along with mine smile

purplepidjinawoollytangle Thu 15-Sep-11 23:03:03

I didn't manage to meet Ivy on Tuesday because of being a stressy bitch having an interview so I'll bring all the squares on a train adventure tomottow shock

I have lots of uselessly short bits, perfect for making flowers to twiddle with, they will come too grin

WhoremoaneeGrainger Fri 16-Sep-11 00:11:24

Hi Knotty and Purplepidjin

Have sent four squares off to you today Knotty (with huge thanks to my donor, HerRoyalNotness for the beige wool)

Have some oddments left, so if you need more i can probably make a mixed stripey one if there is time? Or if you want to organise me another donor if there is time? (Can i request blue or purple or green?)

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 16-Sep-11 00:29:12

I think the deadline for posting is tomorrow? But let me know if you need me to donate any more wool Knots. Always happy to....

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 07:22:09

Morning all.

Once Pidj and I have had a sort through today, we'll have a clearer idea if we need any more squares which may be possible.
Thanks for the offers: I've noted them here <taps head>

purplepidjinawoollytangle Fri 16-Sep-11 08:04:38

The squares and the bears and I are off on and adventure!!!

I can't carry loads of bags on the train so I've dusted off my suitcase blush

Well, at least they'll be safe <roffle>

Georgimama Fri 16-Sep-11 08:11:59

I've still to post my four squares, which I will be doing today or tomorrow. I thought the posting deadline was tomorrow?

YougreatPamplemousse Fri 16-Sep-11 08:16:45

Pidj, I'm sure you all look fab but we can't see the picture. sad

Georgimama - they needed to be there tomorrow so posted today at the latest.

Seven grannies in the post to you this morning Knotty. They struggled a bit with their shopping trollies and canes, and I had to fight to get them all squashed in, but they succumbed in the end. grin

There's some wee flowers in there too, and my leftover wool and a surprise. Have sent it recorded, signed for 1st class, so hopefully you might get it in the morning.

Hope you have a lovely day today!

purplepidjinawoollytangle Fri 16-Sep-11 11:04:26

Ready for WTW's and Cheese's now.

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 16-Sep-11 15:16:53

Well done! Fabulous indeed.
Pistey liberally sprinkles stars over Pidj and Knotty....

LadyWellian Fri 16-Sep-11 15:23:37

Knotty I'm going to be a touch late as my donor wool never arrived (sad but definitely a problem with post rather than with donor) and it's taken me until today to source a ball of Cashsoft, which is an interesting shade of green as the alternatives were even less suitable.

I'll be doing two squares with leaves (one for each of Whatever and Cheese's blankets) as a) I know Edgar really liked the one I did for her blanket and b) they are fairly quick and easy despite looking otherwise.

I'm not going to get them in the post today as I've still got one square and six leaves to knit, but they will be with you as soon as is humanly possible after the weekend.

Pidj - multiple [star]s (and for Knotty too)

duchesse Fri 16-Sep-11 15:59:03

Mine also a touch late I'm afraid- mine will be mostly plain, no fancy stitches, but some stripey in the two colours I received.

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 16:08:11

A bit late is fine. I won't get around to sorting through all the squares for WTW and Cheese until next week now, so no one panic smile]

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 16:08:36

Oh arse. smile

LadyWellian Fri 16-Sep-11 16:20:06

I was just reminding myself not to panic-smile smile

Georgimama Fri 16-Sep-11 16:37:09

Posted 4 squares today - pics on profile. My mum has taken the left over wool to knit one tonight and post to you tomorrow, so if you get a random green square with a Chippenham postcode, it's from my mum.

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 17:44:12

LadyWellian, I think the panic-smile may well be my new look grin

Georgi, could you please pass a [star] onto your lovely mum for us?

purplepidjinawoollytangle Fri 16-Sep-11 17:49:05

Magic's older girl's blanket, the raffle blanket and the runner-up-prize Ted's are all safely delivered.

The twins' blankets are safely with me, ready for one to be delivered to Ivy on Tuesday (we still on for that???)

I have re-established my loathing for trains at college-kicking-out time sad

[star] for Knotty and her yummy cake shop and gorgeous dc's grin

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 18:03:09

And a [star] back at you for coping with my little darlings grin

purplepidjinawoollytangle Fri 16-Sep-11 18:25:53

They're lovely <broody>

If anyone remembers about a squillion posts ago and possibly on another thread, 100years was rushing to get her squares done before her due date...

Baby girl born 13:36 on Friday 9th September weighing 6lb 9oz grin

Congratulations, 100years, if you get a chance to read this [star]

theglove Fri 16-Sep-11 21:35:17

Lovely squares, the baby is gorgeous!

I've sent mine and Hairy Potter's squares today, I hope they will arrive in time. I've uploaded a tiny picture onto my profile.

Knotty, sorry about the scribbled note you will receive, after some speed-knitting I was running for the post office.

Moanna Fri 16-Sep-11 22:33:48

Hi everyone, I received my wool from sauvignon this morning. I have three squares completed (on profile) and may manage to get a white one done with left over wool.

I will be posting them all on Monday - hope that will be OK?

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 22:58:43

Monday is absolutely fine smile

KnottyLocks Fri 16-Sep-11 23:00:27

And congratulations to 100Years. Your little baby is very very beautiful.

SoupDragon Sat 17-Sep-11 10:06:51

Glad to hear Monday is fine as I'm not going to make last post today smile I've just got back to these squares having finished the baby blanket I was making for a friend.

Moanna Sat 17-Sep-11 10:49:55

Am I still posting them to pidj?

KnottyLocks Sat 17-Sep-11 11:10:21

Moanna, post them to me, please. I'll PM you now.

Moanna Sat 17-Sep-11 11:16:30

Thanks, have replied.

angelpantser Sat 17-Sep-11 11:25:18

Posting mine on Monday too, Knotty. Am currently sewing in the "Pesky Ends" and will parcel up and post first thing on Monday. I may even get to put pics on my profile. My donors stayed anonymous but a big thank you to them.

KnottyLocks Sat 17-Sep-11 12:06:17

Ah those pesky ends grin

Woolly shout out thread is here. Check to see if your squares have arrived.

NessaRose Sat 17-Sep-11 12:19:44

Knotty have PM'ed you.

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 17-Sep-11 12:57:26

Arse. I missed the post Knotty sad I ran and ran as fast as my little legs would carry me......
OK, well technically I didn't actually run but I missed it anyway.

SoupDragon Sat 17-Sep-11 15:57:40

Squares are done and all packed up, ready to go.

purplepidjinawoollytangle Sat 17-Sep-11 16:49:38

Soupie, your turn. Knotty and I are already up to our armpits organising five, yes five blankets - we physically can't take on any more at the moment sad
