Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

1) Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles. <we have done risk assessment>
2) Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
3) Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
4) Open front door and go outside shock
5) Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! <faints> In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress <*Knotty*, this is time to contemplate something spectacular>

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things <hazy> Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

thanks

I hope DD's eye has gone down by the morning 5mad.

Told you so BIWI! grin

I ran another mile this evening. 6 down, 25 to go.

(I am another ancient crone, closer to BIWI and pretty in age than 5mad and Blathers grin)

MegBusset Thu 07-Mar-13 17:21:49

Ran 5k this afternoon smile Will attempt to get back on the 10k training wagon with a longer run at the weekend.

BIWI Thu 07-Mar-13 17:26:17

Well I dreamt that I did the 20 minute run last night grin

In my dream I was really pleased at how well I managed it, so let's hope that is what actually happens. Tomorrow I do Week 5/Day 2, which is 2 x 8 minute runs.

5madthings Thu 07-Mar-13 17:26:46

Merryn is fine just has a nice bruise across her cheek bone, numerous jokes about me beating her up from parents at school today!

Well done on your run today meg I am going to go out once madthings are in bed leaving ds1 to babysit providing we have no drama this evening.

Then tomorrow dp has the day off so I can go in the afternoon.

5madthings Thu 07-Mar-13 17:29:04

Lol at dreaming the run biwi I am doing wk 5 run 1 tonight and wk 5run 2 tomorrow, will try and do run 3 at the weekend. I think run one and two will be fine as when I ran on Tues I did ten mins of running before having a walk for a min and then another run.

Blatherskite Thu 07-Mar-13 18:34:17

Oh no! DH is ill and I have a headache. I get everything and DH never gets poorly so if it's got him, I don't stand a chance!

The Clic run is on Sunday.

5madthings Thu 07-Mar-13 18:35:27

Can you quarantine him?!!

Blatherskite Thu 07-Mar-13 18:42:45

In our house? No way. Not enough space.

I might go and eat a fruit bowls worth of oranges to try and fight it off

5madthings Thu 07-Mar-13 18:51:29

Yes lots of fruit and vitamin c. Dp eats lots of smelly blue cheeses etc and is convinced that is why he doesn't get colds...

Do you not have a shed you can stick him in?! grin

5madthings Thu 07-Mar-13 19:15:17

Oh fgs ds2 is feeling poorly now and merry keeps shoving he fingers up her nose and has given herself two nose bleeds! She comes up to me covered in blood saying "bleeding, yucky, wipe me"

So I may be doing my run early tomorrow morning before toddler group, I shall see how ds2 is once dd is in bed, no 3 and no 4 are already in bed and the washing up is done, floor swept, downstairs hovered, just pack ups to do and swim kit to sort, feel like I have had a work out already!

5madthings Fri 08-Mar-13 15:16:00

Wk 5 run1 done and I added on an extra ten mins at the end, 6.5km according to mapmyrun smile

Spent a good ten mins doing some stretches afterwards, feel all invigorated now grin

BIWI Fri 08-Mar-13 15:25:32

Just completed Week 5/Run 2 - 2 x 8 minutes. In the pouring rain!

It was fine.

Still not looking forward to the next one grin but very much hoping I will be reporting back on Sunday that 'it was fine'

5madthings Fri 08-Mar-13 15:31:35

It was drizzling here but not pouring, glad run 2 went OK, I am hoping to do it tomorrow and then run 3 on Sunday as well so we can compare notes! Today's run was fine and I think run 2 should be OK but run 3 may be interesting.

I find the first 5mins the hardest and then its fine, I always feel like I could carry on at the end which must be a good sign!

Blathers - hope you have managed not to succumb to the lurgy. hope the Clic run goes well.

Well done BIWI and 5mad.

We had snow this morning but it's all gone now. I'm still on my run every day in March thing - off for a quick one now while it is still daylight smile

Have good weekends all!

Blatherskite Fri 08-Mar-13 22:01:50

I'm still OK so far. I have to facepaint germy kids for 2 hours tomorrow though so there is still time...

Glasgow meet up thread if anyone fancies it! The Burrell is set I a lovely big park, so you could incorporate a run with cake afterwards!

5madthings Sat 09-Mar-13 15:39:06

Glasgow is a bit far for me! Have a lovely time tho smile

I am meant to be going for a run when dp gets home from work...its snowing at the moment...

5madthings Sat 09-Mar-13 19:33:50

Dp still not home, he was meant to be back five hours ago but is held up... Ffs. We have snow and its like an ice rink out and now dark so my run will have to wait till tomorrow sad

BIWI Sat 09-Mar-13 19:35:26

That's a pity. But better to run in the daylight! Hope DP makes it home soon

5madthings Sat 09-Mar-13 19:43:34

Yes better to run in daylight, he had better get home the msdthings are driving me mental, I have put no 2, 3 and 4 to bed!

Blatherskite Sat 09-Mar-13 20:04:30

Well, my 10k is tomorrow and so far I seem to have avoided the bug. DD is the latest casualty so I'm still nervous but I think it'll be OK

BIWI Sat 09-Mar-13 20:06:12

Fingers crossed, Blathers - and hope the run goes well!

MrsDeVere Sat 09-Mar-13 20:10:31

Good luck! Report back asap smile

5madthings Sat 09-Mar-13 20:37:02

Good luck blathers

Well dp finally home, he has brought back a Thai dinner for me and him!! Hoping the snow buggers off, does anyone have any rum? I have coke and no rum ....serious trauma!

Blatherskite Sat 09-Mar-13 20:40:15

Oh good. The BBC is forecasting light snow for 10am tomorrow.
