Can someone please remind me how to cast off so I can sit on this train and finish? thanks

I've done 2 knitted and 4 crochet squares and I'll label the donor ones so they definitely get used - the others are from leftovers and can be ignored if you like. Much better to have one square per person than 20 by one imo!

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Mar-12 16:04:35

Pidj,
knit 2 stitches,
use left hand needle to pull 1st stitch on your right hand needle over the 2nd stitch and off the end of the needle.
Should be left with one stitch on your right needle.

Repeat!

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Mar-12 16:05:43

Obv when I say repeat, I mean knit another stitch then repeat the pulling the stitch over and off bit.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 12-Mar-12 16:07:13

I am going to give Pidj knitting advice grin

You knit two as if it were a normal row, then pass the right hand stitch over the top of the left hand stitch, then knit another one, then pass the right hand one over again. All the way until you have one stitch left and then you tie it off.

I'm too bloomin slow grin

KnottyLocks Mon 12-Mar-12 16:10:24

Slow but correct grin

PurplePidjin Mon 12-Mar-12 16:19:49

Thank you! Knitted square number two is cast off. 6" x 6 and a bit when uncurled at the edges. Is stocking stitch supposed to do that? confused

My favourite cast off is as follows:

Knit two stitches together.
Slip the stitch you've just made off your right hand needle back onto the left hand needle.
Now knit two stitches together (so that'll be the stitch you just slipped back from left to right with another stitch)
And repeat....

This cast-off gives a slightly more stretchy edge than the traditional cast off described above....
