No salient arguments so far rape victims are getting clobbered. They need a FWR Mner on there

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 22:48:42

Not got in on. Who is talking about it?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Thu 06-Feb-14 22:48:54

<stays in bed>

MorrisZapp Thu 06-Feb-14 22:51:17

Oh good god. People are clapping this shit. This is a fucking disgrace. This is utterly gobsmacking.

Spiritedwolf Thu 06-Feb-14 22:54:01

No... I'm watching Question Time hearing David Starkey saying he (and therefore everyone else) is confused about what rape is. angry sad

Not that I expected to agree with him on any subject ;)

gallicgirl Thu 06-Feb-14 22:54:07

Watching Question Time talking about anonymity for those accused of rape.
David Starkey has just pulled out the 2 different types of rape argument where only violent rape is real rape. Idiot.

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 22:54:20

It is a car crash.

George galloway who apparently said give them anon (based on what the next pannelist said)
Then tessa jowell who really fucked it up and should have said 1. reid warboys 2. what about murder torture terrorism really are they less bad on a rep the implication is women lie and men need to be protected and etc
Then someone else yar anon fab
Then David Starkey jesus lord preserve us
then a random tory but fuck knows what he said

oh the yar anon fab is some academic woman who is like yeah women is lying bitches gotta protect the boys knowit

<grinds teeth>

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 22:57:05

Was that a good summary grin

Was trying to listen and type and throw things all at the same time.

Tessa needs a FWR webchat asap. That was a good moment to put forward the excellent fucking reasons that things are as they are. Lost cos of not clued up-ness. Balls. From a female labour high-profile politician and all.

intheround Thu 06-Feb-14 22:57:28

According to David Starkey, rape is only rape where violence is involved- unbelievable

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 22:58:44

I'm not watching.

Is it a prime example of why any verdict in rape trials is not really proven beyond reasonable doubt because Joe Public has no fucking clue what that means because they are so steeped in rape myths as to be entirely unsuited to jury duty?

You know, I am lucky enough to not be a victim of any criminal sexual offence, but I am beyond rage when it comes to justice for victims. I cannot even imagine what t must be like for victims.

gallicgirl Thu 06-Feb-14 22:59:14

You people! !!
How condescending.

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 23:01:02

And it is entirely because I am not a victim that I keep piping up about this stuff. Easier for me to do so then expecting victims to expose themselves to fight the good fight.

Jinsei Thu 06-Feb-14 23:03:38

David Starkey is a fuckwit. That is all.

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:05:42

Oh the tory man said

I didn't catch all of it but caught this and said it back to DH.

He said:
"When women raise these sorts of gripes".

Reporting rape is apparently a "gripe".

Man I am livid all over this sofa.

Is this really the level of discourse? I've seen better. Horrible awful panel and why the fuck didn't tessa have something a bit better to come out with? It's all standard stuff! She looked like she'd never heard of a call for anon before and was stumped as to what to say confused

And who the fuck is the academic lady who says all women iz bitches innit...? Is she going to say anything else or was she brought on as an "academic" to simply say "women they iz liars kill kill kill"...

horsetowater Thu 06-Feb-14 23:06:20

What's happening to a woman's right to protect her own body? First we have Amnesty International wanting to legalize prostitution worldwide, next we have Barky Starkey telling us there's no such thing as rape on respectable BBC 2.

AnyFucker Thu 06-Feb-14 23:07:51

Tessa Jowell should be better than she is. She allows herself to get shouted down and as a front line politician I would expect her to be more articulate.

However, she is surrounded by fuckwits this evening so maybe she has completely tuned out and is looking forward to her cocoa and bed

CaptChaos Thu 06-Feb-14 23:09:08

Must be the night for people being twunts about rape. There's a whole bunch of them on a thread about William Roache's Not Guilty verdict today.

Days like this I want to move to the moon sad

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:12:21

And the rest of the fuckers on that panel, let's not forget them horse.

I was thinking.

There is a global attack on women's rights. Spain, US, UK abortion laws. Pakistan are going to have a nice chat with the taliban about handing over the women people in those areas to sharia law. Mass rape in DRC et al. Afghanistan looking at law so that basically DV will be outside the law,....... And on and on and on.

I looked at what other groups did when they felt attacked.

What happens if women start to respond with violence? The sufragettes did it...

Not advocating that as I am weak as fuck and stuff grin

There's got to be a breaking point. Women shouldn't have, or be asked to, just go back and back and back and lose their rights and stuff. There has to be a global point where everyone says this is just no good and stops trying to do it through talking, as it obviously just doesn't work.

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:13:48

not guilty does not mean the people who reported were lying.

Police and CPS go for women who are deffo lying.

Beyond reasonable doubt is a high bar, if not met, it doesn't mean accuser was a liar.

<rages more>

TheCrackFox Thu 06-Feb-14 23:14:02

I had to turn over. What a pile of shite.

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 23:15:44

Tazers in baby girl Bounty packs smile

EEatingSoupForLunch Thu 06-Feb-14 23:15:50

Oh fuck off Starkey. Fuck right off to the far side of fuck, and then...oh I really can't be bothered.

I'm depressed enough about fucking amnesty international webchat I don't think I can take watching this.

If only the women who are murdered by men were given this kind of media attention.

MorrisZapp Thu 06-Feb-14 23:17:22

I had to switch it off after they introduced the next topic and that cunt Starkey started blithering on about his grammar school days.

What a truly vile panel. Bring back Germaine Greer, indeed any sentient and engaged female would be nice. Or a man? I'm not fussy.

I'm too enraged to go to bed now. This is where we're at in the UK right now. It is deeply depressing.

Morris I feel the same way. If it wasn't for you lot on FWR is feel completely at odds with the world

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 23:18:39

Why I am I suprised that it is old white men dominating the discourse? And one of them a gay one, at that.

What, exactly, have they got against justice (that we seem to happy with in every other crime) being done?

gallicgirl Thu 06-Feb-14 23:19:34

Argh the women on this panel aren't shining with glory tonight.

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 23:20:16

We're all equal now, though, innit?

EEatingSoupForLunch Thu 06-Feb-14 23:21:01

Sadly Tabard there are plenty of women joining in the fight to reverse advantages hard won, as the deeply depressing thread on declaring an intention to TTC to potential employers, and consequent remarks on selfish women who take their legal entitlement amply demonstrate sad

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 23:23:58

Tbh, I don't really care about the women on the panel. The ones I want to hear never get a platform, anyway. It doesn't matter how articulate you are, they only want yes-women or Katie Hopkins.

Rapists don't listen to them anyway. They just might, however, find yet another reason to continue seeing that they have a green light to continue their rapey ways if they know they have other men fighting their corner.

There are times I think separatists have the right idea angry

scallopsrgreat Thu 06-Feb-14 23:28:12

Didn't watch it. Saw it on Twitter though. I always watch Question Time through the filter of Twitter . Saves on the blood pressure

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:30:21

scallopsrgreat Thu 06-Feb-14 23:30:40

I don't think it's a coincidence though that it seems to be only men who have "confusion around sexual etiquette" or problems with consent.

Sense of entitlement...

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:31:49

Can;t have quotas because you'd never have a quote for gay people or asian people.

yes because in UK society women are 10% or less of the population.

Oooh here we go

it discriminates against men to have all women shortlists

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:34:34

wow he hates women doesn;t he.

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:35:07

tessa is doing a shit job

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:36:00

do i take a gun to my own head

or buy one to take out that panel

answers on a postcard

i have had a bot wine so almost not joking

<arrested by cia>

Jinsei Thu 06-Feb-14 23:36:48

Yes tabard, he really does hate women. A true misogynist.

Jinsei Thu 06-Feb-14 23:37:39

And yes, Tessa was disappointingly crap.

He's a cock

scallopsrgreat Thu 06-Feb-14 23:40:22

Dimbleby was quite dismissive of her though. In that white males stick together type of way.

David Starkey is an arse. I'm too apoplectic to string anything more coherent together.

NiceTabard Thu 06-Feb-14 23:43:22

just <inhales sharply through nose>

it's fine. it's OK. <nods>

we just need to keep at it.

Bourdic Thu 06-Feb-14 23:44:34

Yy apoplectic is the word - perhaps the worst qt I have ever heard and that's saying something

Theoldhag Thu 06-Feb-14 23:47:26

WTF <wonders what the fuck is wrong with people> and shakes head

It is like living in an out of phase parallel dimension sometimes angry

Bourdic Thu 06-Feb-14 23:48:22

Now listening to 5 live follow up programme - glutton for punishment!

DebrisSlide Thu 06-Feb-14 23:51:17

That's what the average jury thinks, though, isn't it?

And that's why all of those lurking on these boards really need to get out there and get their voice heard, even if it's just on an AIBU thread. We cannot let the Starkeys of this world set the tone for OUR justice system or, indeed, our society. Because it's ours too.

It's our world, just as much as the middle-aged white man.

scallopsrgreat Thu 06-Feb-14 23:52:50

It was all about imaginary discrimination against men. White men at that.

No privilege there at all. None.

scallopsrgreat Thu 06-Feb-14 23:54:04

Well said Debris.

Yeah I think that every time I look at the House of Commons. Those poor white men - so under represented

NiceTabard Fri 07-Feb-14 00:15:36

Yeah it's shocking.

Everyone who isn't a white man needs to work hard to correct this injustice.

<and bizarrely, they actually think that's true!#>

Ginric99 Fri 07-Feb-14 02:13:33

Tonight was a huge moment for the battle for equality. Tonight we saw proof that a gay man can be mysoganistic, giving antiquated ideas about rape, women's ability to lead and women's rights in general. Thankyou David starkey I'm sure your fellow gay men are proud of you and I particularly liked when you tried to compare rape "without violence" (whatever that means as the act by its nature is violent) to your existence as a gay man in society.

scallopsrgreat Fri 07-Feb-14 06:56:39

There is a long history of gay men being misogynistic, unfortunately sad
