Call to write to your MP before Commons debate

GarlicSpartaterf · 22/11/2016 06:01

On Thursday 1st December 2016, The House of Commons will debate a motion on Transgender Equality.

Maria Miller’s Committee has called for the removal of qualifying requirements for gender change, so that anyone could easily become legally a member of the opposite sex, without the need for any form of social or medical transition.

We’re asking anyone worried about the implications of this move to contact their MP.

"We" are Fair Play For Women. There's a lot more detail in the link.

I've written to my MP, but I will write again. She replied with a personal letter, saying she had forwarded it for comments.

I pointed out, that the new legislation could result in a fully intact male person, who is attracted to women, having access to women and children everywhere. I also asked how they were screening those who had AGP.

I emphasised that I fully support the rights of trans-people, as long as it didn't give them access to female only spaces.

If you write, customise the template, otherwise it's not taken as seriously.

I have already written to my MP about this and got a response saying that he had in turn written to Amber Rudd about it, but I was just thinking the other day that I haven't heard anything since then.

Will do, but first I need to check and see if he's written a rite response on his ridiculous website, because it's too much of an effort to respond to people's concerns or ever turn up to his constituency surgeries while claiming some of the highest MP expenses ever and being investigated for electoral fraud. I feel so very represented.

Done.

Would it also be possible for you to move this thread to a more visible section so more of us would send it?

I got a very quick response from my MP today. Bumping in the hope others will also write.

What did your MP say? Was it a holding letter?

I've sent a mail to my MP - no response as yet.

This is the reply I reply I received

'I fully appreciate your concerns and I will do my best to attend the debate on 1 December should my Parliamentary schedule allow it.

I have already taken this matter up directly with the Government on behalf of other constituents who have contacted me.

As soon as I receive a response I will be very glad to share it with you.'

That sounds fairly positive to me.

I know Mumsnet is called an echo chamber sometimes, but any comments section in MSM often has the same opinion.

If Maria Miller was surprised at the backlash from 'feminists' over her report, I should imagine that backlash has grown now the word is out.

Thanks for this thread because I am writing to my MP following the tirade of biologically male persons winning in the women's competition.
My MP is likely to disagree that there's anything wrong about that what with her being so "liberal" (including liberal to corporate tax avoidance and liberal towards sex abuse in prostitution) so I probably have my work cut out.

I think we all have our work cut out.

Include links about male violence. Include links about the number of transwomen who have committed crimes whilst in women's intimate spaces. Include links about AGP.
Include the link about the 12-year-old who was given hormones, with potential for sterility, at a Welsh private clinic.

I know it's a faff, but it's so important.

I am in the process of writing to my MP. As I have 2 daughters this has caused me a few sleepless nights. My husband is also getting fed up of my rants. At least he is in full agreement.

I'll list my main concerns but if there are any I have missed can someone say what they are. I am trying to write a letter that is not too long and has clarity. Also if anybody has any links to figures (eg violence rates) these would help.

So far my concerns are (in no particular order):

Sport - physical differences and testosterone levels. Erosion of women's place within sport and associated health implications.

Prisons - rape and abuse victims (well all vulnerable women) being forced to live with rapists and abusers. Psychological implications and the State's duty of care for these women. Transitioning seems to be a get out of male jails atm.

Education - boys in girls' changing rooms and toilets, single sex schools.

Homosexuality - lesbians being coerced into heterosexual sex.

Violence - rates within transwomen being the same as men. Statistics for women being skewed by including males.

General Safety - predatory males will use this to their advantage. I cannot tell the difference between genuine transwomen and male predators.

Children - the long term medication of children really concerns me.

Health - rights to see a female HCP gone. Single sex wards. Rates of female cancer seemingly improving due to males being included in figures. Chemical castration of children. Health implications of long term hormone treatment. Gender rather than sex being used in medical records.

I also would like to mention men being able to take positions created for woman within education/work. eg I read about a woman's STEM placement also being offered to anyone identifying as a woman. Women's awards being given to transwomen.

I am going to be more careful with my use of female/woman in my letter too.

How are females, who are discriminated against because we can bear children, going to get equality.

Sounds like you've got it all sewn up. Coming from a worried parent, they need to sit up and listen.

You might want to add that since 80% of paedophiles are men, self identification legislation will give every single male paedophile full access to little girls. Obviously, they already have access to little boys, but you could point out that most young boys go into female changing rooms with their mothers.

At the very least they are legitimising the doubling of potential victims. Making it bloody legal!

Report
Datun · 24/11/2016 12:23

Can I just say, once again, I have every sympathy for genuine transpeople. I realise they are being as disadvantaged as everyone else. The only solution is to have a third set of changing rooms etc.
