I am a woman because I say so

Bought Grazia not realising it was a special gender issue.

Paris Lees has three pages of editorial.

Gems include;

'I don't need permission to use the label 'woman', I'm a woman because I say so'.

And

'Womankind is a broad church, and it's time to celebrate our wonderfully diverse congregation'.

And

'When my win (as female comment writer of the year) was announced, it unleashed a barrage of transphobic abuse. 'What a farce, Lees is a man' wrote one'.

Finally

'I love being a woman'.

Aaaargh.

What a very male way of thinking! I say so therefore it is so.

I don't need permission to say you're not a woman, Paris. And if you were a woman, you'd have some understanding of why it's important that we don't collude in your fantasy, ThrowWomenUnderABus feminists notwithstanding.

Who is correct? Well, if just one transwoman can define what they think a woman is, we might get somewhere on the understanding road. As it is, there is a perfectly workable and important definition in existence. Yes to womankind being a broad church, though interesting that Paris would rather broaden it further than broadening what it means to be a man. Women are not NotMen.

Oh fuck off Lees. Memememememememe.

I have reached peak trans rage with the appropriation of 'woman' to mean I like wearing makeup, dresses and giggling coqui

I'm certainly never buying Grazia again. They also bleat in another article about how older women can learn from the younger generation who are challenging gender norms. And state that '4 year olds are now being asked their gender' as part of a piece on how far we are progressing, like it's a good thing that children are being used as pawns in this fucking Orwelllian nightmare.

My eight year old DD saw me reading a trans thread on here the other day and asked what it was about. I explained in the simplest terms I could, there's a trans child at her school so she already knew the concept.

Her comment on the whole thing was "well that's stupid, if you've got a willy you're a boy even if you're wearing a dress, and if you don't you're a girl". Pretty much sums it up really.

I too have reached the rage point, with individuals like Lees and the utter fuckwit women who mindlessly defend them and advance their cause, shitting all over women in the process.

Yes, that's Paris. And enjoys bring fucked by several penii at once because women enjoy being treated like multiple fuck holes. I guess if your mangina is made from your colon, a fuck doesn't feel quite the same as it does if you have an actual vagina

Yes, Hermione Paris Lees likes being wolf whistled at in the street. Of course she does. It's a validation that she's 'passing' that she is a 'real woman'. There is no understanding at all that actual women may find it tedious/intimidating/upsetting/whatever.

I cancelled my grazia subscription when they got a trans columnist who wrote women should be grateful that they don't have to make difficult choices like their name. You know let's fucking the whole changing sirname on marriage shit.

I phoned and emailed but the only response was that yes they've had lots of people cancel subscriptions because of the trans issue.

I am so fed up with these arrogant, narcissistic, ego-tripping fantasists.

As for the idiot young, 'cool', men in frocks are women because they say so, supporters - be bloody careful what you wish for. This is going to come back and bite you on the bum when the penny drops and you realise you have simply been conned by entitled males who fancy swanning round in a frock and lipstick and thinking that makes them women.

Will someone teach these prats who have clearly never had a biology lesson in their lives the difference between sex and gender? Please.

Interesting article here from Grayson Perry discussing masculinity- he is asked about men self defining as women and he says that identity is co-created, if you say you are X and everyone else says you are not, are you really X?
I think his programme on masculinity will be interesting.

It's possible Paris Lees was on here th other day asking for contributions to Vice. If he's still here, I hope he sees what we all think of him.

Whatevs. Paris Lees is a man, and a fairly misogynist one at that based on his published writing.
Men can all agree he's a woman if they like, makes no difference.

No male privilege there then....!

I certainly won't be buying Grazia again.

Shallishanti, I liked that article.

This I hadn't really thought about before:

“Men are always looking back to a time when men were men and trying to bring that back. I’m saying you’ve got to look forward, mate. Women are always looking forward. Feminism always looks to how women can be – and that’s fine. It doesn’t stop them being women.”

And he is absolutely right. Sorry, not about the topic in hand but interesting nonetheless.

If someone says they are a woman. They are a woman.

If someone says they are a man. They are a man.

Maybe not scientifically. But if someone identifies as either man or woman or even neither. That is what they are.

That doesn't even make any sense Blink.
