I would like your opinion on something...

I am a trans-women, I was born with the male physical body, but always identified as female, did everything commonly associated with "Female" Anyway, I have been told that I should not be allowed to use the female bathroom.

I was just wondering if you agree with this? My gender on my passport is female, I'm attracted to men, I look nothing like a man, yet people are trying to force me into their bathroom regardless, what is your position on the issue?

The gender on your passport is female, you have put a lot of effort into this.
I have no problem with you using the 'ladies'.
A lot of recent stuff has undermined the position of true trans women.

I have no issue at all with you using the ladies.

Who you are attracted to is irrelevant

Trills · 29/01/2016 18:39

Otherwise bisexual people would not be allowed to use any bathroom with other human beings in it

I would be happy for you to use a female bathroom Smile

Yeah I agree, it's just a lot of Transphobic people use "But they are just paedophiles praying on young girls, and pretend to be female to get access!" Which makes no sense at all, because... let's be honest, there is almost nothing stopping a creepy guy (Or girl) Walking into the opposite sex bathroom if they wanted. So why any pedo would try it is a mystery to me.

Also considering the fact that if you met me, talked to me, you would not be able to tell the difference. I am just like every other woman, just have that difference there, that's all.

Except you are not a woman. If you have male genitalia, that makes you a man.

ArkATerre · 29/01/2016 18:44

Oh, I'd be able to tell, no doubt.

Seriously? Wtf.

You are male. You are not 'like every other woman', and the mere fact that you say that proves you are not.

I would have no issue with you using the female bathroom.

That's not really what you are asking/trying to generate a debate about though is it ?

Besides, even if every single woman who posted here said 'yes, I do have a problem with you using the female bathroom', that wouldn't stop you, woudl it? You'd just brush us all of as nasty TERF bigots whose opinions don't matter, and carry on your merry way, safe in the knowledge that us boring nasty cis women's opinions don't matter compared to your ladyfeelz.

No, I swear I am not trolling, I would not be so low. I just get frustrated the amount of times I've been called a pedo when I'm just going about my day to day life. Never in person, always online when I TELL people about me, they never guess unless I tell them. And a lot of the time I get called that. So yeah... That sucks :( Not being accepted when you are just trying to be what you've always felt like, but we must push on! No wonder almost 50% of Trans people kill themselves tbh....

You will not get called a paedophile on the MN FWR board. Credit us with more intelligence than that.

If you want a proper discussion, leave your own prejudices at the door.

I was dying for the loo once. Rushed in, straight into a free cubicle. Phew! Came out to a load of bewildered blokes staring at me from the urinals. I'd gone through the wrong door! Blush

Unicorns, you have asked for people's opinions. You sound genuinely decent and I don't mean to upset you, but to many women, being trans does not actually make you a woman. You are a man who identifies as a woman, to us. You have to accept that your point of view will not be shared by all. There has been a huge encroachment of transwomen in women-only spaces, groups, forums and so on. Many of us have been seriously hurt by men and could not possibly be in a 'women-only' space with a transwoman. A woman with a penis is not a woman.

I've worked with two post -operative transexuals over the years (surprising though that might sound) and nobody ever objected to either of them using the women's loos at work. I never heard anybody say that being transexual was linked to paedophilia. So wrt the bathroom issue, I somebody is clearly living as a woman, pre or post op then I don't object to them using the bathroom.

This is just my opinion and it might well be unreasonable and if it is then I'm unreasonable but there is so much talk about being trans on mn these days. I wouldn't have clicked on the thread if I'd known.

Just wondering...
Unicorns are you really good at a sport? Could you compete in the Olympics? Would you be on the male or female team? Or would you take it on the chin and say maybe you are not quite right for either?

Public toilets are actually quite private with their little cubicles.

PlumpFiction · 29/01/2016 19:13

I'm confused - if you pass, who is trying to force you to use men's toilets and why?

I used to work with a trans woman and it didn't bother me which toilets she used when she returned to work living as a woman (having previously lived as a man prior to going on the break). It did bother one of my older, more traditional colleagues though.

UnicornsRuleAll · 29/01/2016 19:14

Um, I wouldn't say I'm that into it, but yeah, I quite like sport. And I would be on the female team of course, being on the male team just feels... weird to me. Oh and btw, I am post op, have been for over 6 years :)

So it's ok for you to refuse to be with men because it 'just feels weird', but females have to deal with your presence in their spaces?

Report
AnyFucker · 29/01/2016 19:18

Have you ever been called a paedophile on MN ?

Report
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 29/01/2016 19:20

You can't identify with female, female is a biological sex. You can't identify with being of the sex that can bear offspring when you are not of that sex.

Just because you prefer to do traditionally feminine role things, doesn't make you a woman.

You may look like a male person, or you may look like a woman. I don't know. But if you look male you will not be fully accepted as a woman. I'm sure that's a painful reality but you can't ignore it.

Most women would be too polite to object to a male appearing person in the loos but that doesn't mean they are ok with it.
However, if you genuinely look like a woman then it's not a problem as you will appear as a woman.
