Opinions on a breast photographer?

I would really appreciate your personal opinion on a theoretical debate I am currently having. I won't state just yet what my personal thoughts are so as not to bias replies in any way, but I am genuinely interested in all thoughts:

What is your opinion on the idea of a male photographer calling himself a professional breast photographer, where he dresses naked breasts up in fancy dress costumes (famous figures in history for example) and takes photos of them?

TheMasterMurderedMargarita Sat 16-Jan-16 11:22:31

I'd think WTF. Even if the photos were awesome.

Seeyounearertime Sat 16-Jan-16 11:24:34

pointless
stupid
unnecessary

are my initial thoughts.
is there really some kind of market for this sort of photo?

meditrina Sat 16-Jan-16 11:26:34

I'd think it was really naff (regardless of sex of person behind the camera).

SleepyForest Sat 16-Jan-16 11:31:04

I liked the penis photos. I was amazed by how much money the photographer made.

I would assume the breast photographer was jumping in the bandwagon. I don't see any harm in it though.

I think I'd rather look at boobs sleepy grin.
Those are just a bit too, phallic.

Yes, the discussion stems from the penis photographer!

I am just interested as I feel that there is certainly never just a collective feminist opinion however I have an acquaintance who has squarely informed me I am 'not a feminist' because we have a different opinion on this and as she is more widely read than me I have no right to an opinion on this matter?! It's not right that one person speak for all right?

LassWiTheDelicateAir Sat 16-Jan-16 11:55:36

The penis photos are naff. Far too "ooh look at me, I'm so edgy" buy actually signifying nothing . The breast ones sound like a copy and worse.

Yawn

whatdoIget Sat 16-Jan-16 12:48:19

They both sound crap

Conundrumparpapumpum Sat 16-Jan-16 12:50:38

I hate people like that, the acquaintance I mean.

I don't think that novelty breast photographs has much to do with feminism confused
Unless women were being coerced into allowing it, or the photos were being shared without consent, or women were being set up to compare their breasts with others, or they were being rated by observers or something. Just the concept of it is kind of apolitical I think.

But having said that can apolitical breast photography really exist in a misogynist society? Hmm.

G1veMeStrength Sat 16-Jan-16 13:12:12

Yuk. I'd think it is stupid ridiculous etc etc. Same as the penis ones. (Which I am not clicking on!)

I just can't fathom who in their right mind would want to do this. Male or female photographer, women's or men's breasts, or genitals, and whatever historical men or women it includes, it just sounds like some shite off Eurotrash.

I got a book of breasts wearing face paint for Christmas a couple of years ago. I found it interesting to look at but predominantly, I used the book as inspiration and to copy from and paint my own breasts! (DH and I both have years of experience face painting)

I dislike the penis pictures by this artist. Honestly, because the "clothes" don't fit the penises and it looks "twee" and too try hard me. I have no problem with the subject, just the execution.

There's a tumbler blog called things my dick does honestly, I find the execution more honest, interesting, entertaining and engaging.

Jamie McCartney produced a sculpture a few years back. It's called <<http://www.greatwallofvagina.co.uk/about the Great Wall of vagina>> but it's vulvas, not just vagina. I enjoyed the exhibition when I visited. Is it not "similar"?

I think we can't just talk about this in isolation: we have to see it in the context of how bodies are looked at in our society. Someone's having fun with boobs, but we can't forget page 3 of the Sun, or endless other displays of women's breasts as soft-core pornography (or worse--there's "breast torture" porn out there). There's no equivalent where it's men's bodies being looked at, and to the extent that it does happen, it's men presented as having the potential to move and act, not just stand there hinting "come and take me". Maybe there's a world of the future where we'll be able to laugh at funny penises and breasts and vulvas without having to think about a context relating to who has power over whom, the way we might laugh at knees or elbows (or bottoms?) but that seems like a very long way off.

People dress penises and breasts up in costumes and take pictures of them?

Gosh, how utterly thrilling, they must lead such interesting and fulfilling lives...

<goes to watch paint dry for shits and giggles>

kua Sat 16-Jan-16 18:44:12

IMHO the photographer must have a very boring life in order to have thought of this.

I'm not sure where feminism comes into play here .

Feel free to take photos of your dick dressed up as Minnie Mouse for all I care.

"Can apolitical breast photography really exist in a misogynist society?"
