So proud of my 9yo dd....

We were watching a news report about Nicola Sturgeon earlier, in which there was some comment about her high heels and a lot of footage of her legs.

So dd says "why, when it's women, do they always focus on dresses and shoes?"

I am so used to casual sexism that I tend not to notice stuff like this very often, and it's not something I have ever pointed out to dd. I'm just so proud that she is able to watch things like this critically, and realise that it isn't right.

Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings...

She sounds great Kampeki. And insightful.

Thanks scallops Obviously, I think so, but I may be slightly biased! :)

DS sees this too, he usually starts a commentary on the men's suits to provide some balance. I'm glad he sees it, and treats it with the distain it deserves but if your 9 year old and my 11 year old see it then why the bloody hell don't the correspondents!

What I noticed on election night was the way she was "steered" into a building with a man's hand on her back. This also happened to other women standing as MPs, but not to men. i mentioned it to DS, who thought it was probably security, but even so, it didn't seem to happen to any men. maybe I am being over sensitive.
