Sorry to ask. Did it all kick off?

Not that I saw. Last I saw, a poster commented that the contents included parts of an email verbatim, and was Hmm and judgey about it, so probably reported it. Oh well, some people can't stand to have their perceptions challenged, and will latch onto something they can be arsey about.

the OP was concerned that she might be outed if someone else who read the original email stumbled across it so she asked for it to be deleted

she had already clarified that she was fully entitled to post the email as it had been sent to her, and it was fully anonymised, so that was cleared up before the deletion came

Yeah, OP was worried about her anonymity.

it was

sorry, was just trying to reassure that it hadn't all gone tits up in the end

IMO the misogyny was revolting and distressing but not shocking. The fucknut MRA who came on was a massive joke, but the most depressing kind of joke.

Yep, in actual fact, I think the email was a really, really good starting point for a discussion on misogyny in real life, and how it manifests. But that's all it was, a starting point for discussions on this type of 'lads holiday' Hmm.

yes you're right, not shocking

we know this is how women are discussed and perceived

perhaps more should be exposed, sunlight as a disinfectant etc

Oh yes, gin, misogynistic 'banter' as a way for men to bond - what a load of wank he was trying to sell .

Sorry Shocking was probably the wrong description. Galling would have been a better word to use.

And the reason people get so angry about it being discussed is because it's a MASSIVE Pandora's box! If your partner goes in for this kind of shit then how can you face up to the toxic misogyny that is manifested in the "lads lads lads" crap and yet keep the rest of your life intact?

Oh yes, I completely agree with this. I do actively encourage men to be out and proud about stuff like this. Why hide it? Own it, guys!

Very true gin. Many people have a vested interest in keep themselves consciously, or unconsciously, unaware of this sort of stuff, as it would upset foundations of their world.

x-post

i don't mean i want to hear more of that kind of stuff generally (i hope that's not how it was interpreted) - i just meant more accountability, more highlighting the hypocrisy and misogyny, more disgust/pity/ridicule at the language and attitude

Galling is such a great word. Perfect here.

I don't blame them. I'd rather not know.

"it would upset foundations of their world"

well exactly, and for a lot of women it would literally risk their home and livelihood and that of their children to challenge this stuff

Although from my POV the reason I want men to be more open about their contempt for women is so that women can go into interactions with men with a bit more information. Forewarned is forearmed and all that.
