i'm not usually one to grab the keys of the outrage bus, but have you seen this?

A picture of the Colombian women's cycling team in their new strip.

Now, perhaps it looks different when on a bicycle, but the pic of them standing left me almost speechless.

And the other 'awful sports attire' examples (though horrible in their ways) don't come close, as none are simulating nudity.

The men have something equally faux revealing, afaik. Grim

On another forum I read that the costumes are actually gold, but it shows up as skin tone in pictures. There's no way to assess how true this is without seeing it in person, but it's hard to imagine that the women would accept it if it really is that way.

Then again, remember the Olympic volleyball players.

AnguaResurgam · 16/09/2014 20:43

Thanks!

Still wondering why the BBC chose to picture only the women.

It really doesn't look gold. And Beeb helpfully pointed out that it wasn't really see-through.

It's clearly a publicity stunt and I'm disgusted the BBC decided to publish it.

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 16/09/2014 22:15

I'm v surprised the beeb didn't add the famous red rowing shorts.

AnyFucker · 16/09/2014 22:17

Oh, my Christ

AnyFucker · 16/09/2014 22:18

I see labia !

MaryWestmacott · 16/09/2014 22:26

Yep, it's gold in real life, and unfortunately, noone thought to take photos of it in different lightings to see what it looked like. It's unfortunate that no one thought that gold would look flesh coloured, and that the gusset padding would make the whole look even worse...

The men also wear gold and it can make them look like Ken dolls.

I do feel sorry for them, I can't imagine they realised looking at a shiny gold outfit they were being asked to wear, and now they've been made laughing stocks world wide when they are serious athletes wearing outfits that are no more revealing that the other woman and the men in the same sport.

Glovender · 16/09/2014 22:52

I suppose that it's pointless to mention that the designer is a woman and that the team chose to wear it? Nah, unimportant. This is all about the exploitation of women's bodies isn't it?

scallopsrgreat · 16/09/2014 22:57

Like the athletes get to chose to wear their national kit Grin. So what if the designer is a woman?

I agree Mary btw. It's all a bit shit for the athletes.

It is indeed.

Luckily I have a Tardis!

TiffanyToothache · 17/09/2014 00:14

The photo in the metro of the men's team is from 2010, look in the background. Not sure what the current men's team of Colombia are wearing. The women's kit is hideous. Awful. They are a laughing stock. Can't decide if it was intentional for publicity or a dreadful error.
