What a charming advert

Why a 'lady'? How very odd. hmm

I think I just needed to share this one!

JimmyCorkhill Tue 15-Apr-14 15:47:54

In a newsagent's window near me is an advert for a 'Topless Cleaner'. Apparently the person advertising doesn't want 'any timewasters'. It's been up for months so I'm assuming no takers!

NigellasDealer Tue 15-Apr-14 15:49:47

anyway it is not even legal to state required gender in the advert unless the job is eg cleaning the changing rooms in a women's gym.
not that you can legislate against such wankiness really.

Am I the only person who wants David Williams to go round in full "laydeeee" rig?

Perhaps MN can organise a trannie sit-in?

Thurlow Tue 15-Apr-14 15:54:14

That would be fantastic, Beast!

ImAThrillseekerBunny Tue 15-Apr-14 15:56:33

I might defend that if it was for a nervous elderly female householder who wouldn't be comfortable employing a strange man. It would be illegal of course, but understandable. But for a bar? That's just weird, and very illegal indeed.

NigellasDealer Tue 15-Apr-14 15:56:47

haha funny beast i was just thinking of those two laydeeeeeez going around there for the job!! grin

Ewwwww a restaurant that only has a cleaner once a week?

And lady cleaner - how awful.

Thurlow Tue 15-Apr-14 16:04:43

Eurgh. I've drunk there. I hope to god it's cleaned more often than that!

Though I was pissed before I even went inside so I can't remember

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26543267

minimum wage is £6.50

Keepithidden Tue 15-Apr-14 16:11:24

Maybe they already employ lots of male cleaners and its a positive discrimination quota filling exercise?!

Teabellie Tue 15-Apr-14 16:18:10

Can we call him? grin

NigellasDealer Tue 15-Apr-14 16:19:01

call him what? grin

ouryve Tue 15-Apr-14 16:20:40

Perhaps it's not a female cleaner they want, but one to clean ladies.hmmconfused

I have emailed their head office <cackles>

Hi Archie

You may want to have a little word with Peter at your Hitchin pub about his advert for a "lady cleaner"? I am presuming he is advertising for a cleaner in which case this ad is unlawful. Unless he has one of those boob operated Hoovers of course, in which case this ad is fine at not at all sexist.

Apologies if the above ad is not current, and has in fact slipped through a worm hole from 1948. Even greater apologies if it is current and Peter is ruining your brand with his misogyny.

Best wishes,

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed Tue 15-Apr-14 16:33:31

It's not very well written, so could it be a badly formulated ad for someone to clean the womens' loos? Although, I'd hope they did that more than once a week.

Thurlow Tue 15-Apr-14 16:47:11

Oooh, good plan K8 - am bored, I'm going to do that too grin

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Tue 15-Apr-14 18:06:59

I see it's been fixed. Good work, K8.

Monumentally stupid ad also as no doubt sufficient applicants would have been female so that Peter could have picked a Lady.

6.31 is minimum wage at the moment. It goes up to 6.50 in October.

K8, that is brilliant. I will look for opportunities to use your email.
