Some of you might be interested to know that the first meeting of East Midlands Radical Feminist Group is tomorrow (Saturday) in Nottingham, at the International Community Centre, from 1-3pm.

Women only. Anyone who is a radical feminist or genuinely interested in radical feminism, is welcome.

I'm not in your area but good luck! It's amazing to hear of actual radfem groups starting up.

Thanks Tunip. There are others already in existence, but usually you have to know someone who goes to get an invite. We decided to advertise this one publically.

Can I ask how radical is a radical feminist group?
I suspect it may be the type of thing where if you need to ask the question, then you probably aren't radical enough!
Is there any other info about the meeting as I am interested? I do consider myself a feminist. I don't know much about the literature, etc but would be interested to learn more. However, I am slightly nervous.
Thanks
Wise

Hi Wise,

You are more than welcome. Which is why it says anyone genuinely interested in radical feminism. If you were going to come along and tell us that radical feminists have got it all wrong and that we are all just a bunch of prudes, then obviously that wouldn't be genuine interest.

But you really don't need to know the ins and outs of radical feminism. I am pretty sure there will be other women in the same position as you.

In our poster we say -

" The aim of this meeting is to bring together women of all ages in the region to meet, and discuss radical feminism, issues relating to gender, ant-sex trafficking, anti-sexual exploitation of woman, women's empowerment and liberation. We hope that the meeting will be a friendly and welcoming space for woman to share experiences, and meet like minded friends.

We invite any woman interested in radical feminism, and these themes, to come and join us."

And if you don't want to talk, and just want to listen, then that is fine too.

Thanks
From when I've lurked on here and from the little I know, I wouldn't expect to agree with everything that is said, but I do find your aims interesting so I'll see if I can make it.
On a purely practical point, I've looked at the ICC on streetview and there looks like there is some parking there. Am i going to be able to park or will I need to park else where?

The parking at the ICC is reserved for those with disabilities only. You can park on the street, including behind it. Or in the car park at Victoria Shopping Centre, almost opposite. Hope to see you tomo0rrow.

This went really well. There were 9 of us altogether with quite a few apologies. Everyone is keen to do activism. Next meeting at the same venue and time on the 9th of November.

I'm glad it went well. Sorry I didn't come. Partly busy/ partly chickened out! I'll think about 9th Nov. I am working thAa day, but if it's quiet I may be able to make it.

Wiseknee - If you want to pm me I can give you my phone number. Or if you pm me an email address I can add you to the email list about future meetings.

And no need to worry about the meetings. The women who came were a mixture of women who knew a fair bit about radical feminism, and women who are feminists but didn't know what the difference is between radical feminism and other types of feminism, but wanted to find out more. You will know more than some, and less than some.

There was a wide spread of ages as well. On the 9th of Nov, there is a Reclaim the Night march in the evening from 6.30pm in Nottingham if you are interested.
