She can't act, she can't sing, but who cares - she walks like Rihanna.

I know it's only a bloody pop song, but it seems to be everywhere and is bugging the hell out of me. I can't even verbalise why - I suppose it's glorifying a woman who has a sexy walk, but isn't "much good for anything else".

Ken Bruce introduced it in a scathing way a couple of weeks ago. I truly loved him at that moment.
It is an awful song. I detest it too.

I heard it for the first time today and couldn't believe what I was hearing. It makes me weep for the DD's as they grow up and have to content with this kind of crap. Its the pits.

It's by 'Blue' isn't it? Between them they don't have a pair of brain cells to rub together.
Shit song, shit sentiment, shit band.

Well, that's 3.34 minutes of my life I won't be getting back.

Oh, and based on the video she is also fairly stupid. And has got to the position of Director by everyone fancying her? Is that the joke of recycling all those boy band video cliches.

Awful, just awful.

Doesn't she end the video in her underwear Hmm
Surprise

Rihanna's walk had never struck me as the most fascinating thing even for fans of hers. In fact I don't think I have ever seen her walking anywhere in any video. . I do dislike the idea that her public image is one to aspire to.

It's by The Wanted. 5 hormonal young men that probably have one thing on their mind. .

Rihanna can sing and dance as well as walk though. Hmm she's worked really hard to get where she is, not something everyone wants to aspire to, but surely better than just a wiggly walk.

Bloody terrible, and yes, it makes me worry for my DD too :(

"She can't sing, she can't dance, but who cares, she validates the heterosexual male gaze" didn't scan as well.

Yes, my (wonderful, feminist-ally) husband made a point of asking me what I thought of it last night and I said 'It's a pile of crap'!

He laughed and said he knew I would say that...I wasn't TOO sure why I KNEW it was crap as I hadn't heard it properly, but that I thought it basically stated that a woman's abilities/talents/personality do not matter, and even are ok to be commented negatively upon, as long as she looks the part...it even compares her, loud and clear, to another woman, a popstar, which is criminal!!! She is a fucking person in her own right!!!!

The Wanted I think have made misogynist comments so no surprise they put out a shite song like this.

Hang on a minute is this song not about a girl who can't sing or dance but holds herself confidently (anyway)!! Think you have all missed the point!!!

I was going to post about this tonight. I heard Ken Bruce this morning slating the song with comments like "Have we not moved on at all?". He soared in my estimation but then it was the point in the show where Jeremy Vine comes on to talk about his show and his response to KB's comments was something like this "Well a couple of weeks ago we had Rod Stewart on the show and he had a young female musician with him with a skirt no bigger than a postage stamp". My blood pressure rose and I wanted to yell at the radio wtf has that got to do with anything

Stupid bloody song anyway in response to the OP!

So she is confident because she looks a certain way?? Or WALKS a certain way?? I read the lyrics and they say nothing about her as a woman at all. Nothing. Just that she moves in a way that men like...so that is all that matters and enough for men to want to be with her. It is pretty bad about men too in that way!!!

Jeesh!!!

I love Ken Bruce. He is one man who took being father of a daughter VERY seriously.

I can't help wondering how this would have gone if I'd posted in AIBU. I would imagine I would have been handed a few grips by now. Grin

I'm pleased to hear the Ken Bruce comments. Jeremy Vine is just the DM on legs really isn't he?

our local radio station gave it an ageist slant - doing a version called "She walks like me nanna". Lots of references to dentures etc

Lol @ Mardy....I Like AIBU but some of the posters have NO idea about feminism!

I heard that song today and thought exactly the same as OP and swore roundly at the radio in the car - as yer do. It made me mad because it didn't seem to take any account of the speech/thoughts/personality of the woman who walked like Rihanna
