Grin Sorry if this was meant to be a seeeerious thread. I am downloading already, but I certainly shan't be saving AD for holiday reading as she tends to get me fired up and angry (in a good way, but not in a "getting it away from it all" way IYSWIM)

I'm afraid to read it, I'm sure it'll be the push over the edge in to burning all my undergarments and dumping DH in favor or Political Lesbianism.

Still it is free..... Grin

?In a patriarchal society all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent.?

?Heterosexual intercourse is the pure, formalized expression of contempt for women?s bodies.?

Do you have a smiley for rolling eyes?

Woohoo, last time someone pointed me to free Andrea Dworkin I hadn't got a Kindle, but I have now!

I read Heartbreak when we did it as a book club (back in the days of Dittany) and it was fascinating; interested to read more. It was all so different from what I had expected. Much more subtle, complex and beautifully written.

Anyone want to recommend what I should read first?

If you like Andrea Drowkin you will also like the "SCUM manifesto".

Have you got anything useful to say, WD, or are you just brandishing a wooden spoon for shitz'n'gigglez ?

This isn't a thread to slag off Radical Feminism, it's a heads up for anyone interested in reading Andrea Dworkin for free

Even those who disagree with her should appreciate the opportunity to do that, right ? Because even her detractors should be fully apprised of all her arguments without rubbishing them so comprehensively, yes ?

And all the better to do it gratis, in these times of austerity

en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Catharine_MacKinnon

"In a patriarchal society all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent."

These words were quoted by the conservative writer Cal Thomas as coming from Professing Feminism, a book which he mistakenly ascribed to Catharine MacKinnon.[2] The passage does appear in that book, but is given as the author's characterization of MacKinnon's views rather than a direct quotation."

Seems this one gets misattributed a fair bit then! Well done.

I am reviving this thread as I was looking for something and thought others might appreciate a few free books.

I must be a glutton for punishment as I am after The Whole Woman by Germaine Greer.

If anyone knows of any other legal free resources, put them here maybe? I'd be grateful!

This site has a whole bunch of books in pdf by Sheila Jeffreys, Catherine MacKinnon, Audre Lorde and more.

radfem.org/

I have to put in a particular recommendation for the third book listed, Loving to Survive: Sexual Terror, Men’s Violence, and Women’s Lives, by feminist psychologist Dee Graham with Roberta Rigsby and Edna Rawlings.

Graham has developed (AFAIK) the first comprehensive theory of women's psychology that takes into account the fact that it has developed under the ubiquitous threat (and actuality) of male violence. She calls it Societal Stockholm Syndrome - the tendency of an abused group to bond with their abusers. It sort of blew my mind when I read it. It explains so much: female masochism, why so many women reject feminism and identify with men over other women, and the difficulties involved in developing female solidarity.
