It's been pulled now, but seriously. What the fuck were they thinking?

it was made by a rapper who created this lovely song:

"Tron Cat"

Satan's getting jealous of the wolves, demons say they preferring us
Books on not giving a fuck, well they referring us (Wolf Gang)
Wolves I know you heard of us, we're murderers
And young enough to get the fucking priest to come and flirt with us
You niggas rap about fucking bitches and getting head
Instead I rap about fucking bitches and getting heads
While you niggas stacking bread, I could stack a couple dead
Bodies, making red look less of a color more of a hobby
I'm not a rapper nor a rapist nor a racist
I fuck bitches with no permission and tend to hate shit
And brag about the actions in a rhyming pattern matter
And proceed to sat her down when I go splatter in her chatterbox
Atta boy, Odd Future you're not in our category
Torture with the super soaker at the Asian liquor store
This the type of shit that make a Chris Brown wanna kick a whore
That make songs about the wet blot when it rains and pours (Umbrella)
I hate this, screaming fuck patience
Got a nigga shaking like the calmest fucking Haitians
After chronic masturbation, asking where Mary-Kate went
I wanna be the reasons why all lesbians hate dick
I make this damn Bullwinkle a red moose
Game of duck-duck-duck tape with a dead goose
She run around this motherfucking dungeon, her legs loose
Until I accidentally get the saw to her head, oops

Victim, victim, honey you're my fifth one
Honey on that taco when I stuff you in my system
Rape a pregnant bitch and tell my friends I had a threesome
You got a fucking death wish, I'm a genie it'll get done
Nice to meet you but it's more pleasant to eat you
With a leaf of salad and some dressing pouring out a teacup
Bitch I'm Tyler the Creature, suck your feet up like a beacher
Beat ya rubber more than the fucking bottom of a sneaker
Jeeper the fucking creeper, get your daughter and keep her
In the jeeps where the Wolf Gang ride around deeper
Take her to Ladera now she's getting scared and you're embarrassed
Filled with terror, chop her legs off and tell her to run some errands
Put her eyes in a canteen, take her to the Berrics
Stear her, Steve say it costs ten to fuck Eric
Put her in the lake her body seems great
Now it's time to fish her like Derek
Satan says we're dangerous, we're trading kids for angel dust
Snuff and sniffing out at Michael Jackson's tryna suck our dick
Hippopot the fucking llamas, dead bodies should leave the squatters
Gave the team a bunch of fucking bees and a Keke Palmer
They will never catch him or catch up
They asked me what it was I told them fuckers it was ketchup
Nutty like my chex mix, she bleeding from her rectum
Odd Future wolves stirring ruckus throwing sets up, yep

This the type of shit that make children break in apartments
When you tell a fucking orphan you don't love 'em 'til they heart thin
Starve her 'til I carve her then I shove her in the Rover
Where I cut her like a barber with a Parkinson's disorder
Store her in a portable freezer with me to Portland
Catch me with a bunch of fucking Mexicans crossing the border
I be the only wetback who ain't really touched the water
Cause I be too fucking busy tryna flirt with Jesus' daughter (Fuck Mary)
I'm awesome, and I fuck dolphins
Sicker than a starving Nigerian kid's barfing
Odd Future Wolf Gang Nazi bar mitzvah
With your sister at the bar playing leg and arm twister
Evident that I'm the shit, I'm the Pooh like Tigger dick
I got these cracker doctors saying yeah Bob, this nigger's sick
Animal safari, if I offend you I'm sorry
Because I'm the blackest skinhead since India Arie
I don't smoke weed so no need for the matches
Said fuck coke and now I'm snorting Hitler's ashes
Plan on either dying for suicide or my asthma
Being the only bastard in a box logo casket
Rashes on my dick from licks from shishkabob Sagets
In some Kanye West glasses screaming out fuck faggots
Catch me in my attic taking photos of my dad's dick
Drop the beat here to make it extra climactic

Rap music is renown for its negative attitude to women, and its love of violence and sex.
Pepsi probably thought it was being cool and down wit de kidz, and that it would sell a lot of product on the back of the campaign. So, no surprise to me, how many Pepsi drinkers would care, or think about the meaning of the lyrics?

dogsandcats Sun 05-May-13 07:50:21

I think that is the most atrocious lyrics I have ever seen.

RubyOnRails Sun 05-May-13 07:54:39

I can't believe how anybody can write such aggressive nonsense, sit back, and think "great work"

GoblinGranny Sun 05-May-13 07:57:10

I just hate the majority of the rap music that I've heard, the negative messages and impact far outweigh any of the positives IMO.

IHateSafeStyle Sun 05-May-13 08:01:25

I can bieve someone can write it, after all that is that one persons view, I struggle with how many people in the music company heard it and thought it was a good idea. Where's corporate responsibility?

GoblinGranny Sun 05-May-13 08:20:45

Corporate responsibility is to increase sales.

HullMum Mon 06-May-13 00:05:35

I'd say there is very little that genuinely shocks me. But this really fucking did

Nekohmah Sat 21-Mar-15 19:25:09

Okay, first of all IT'S A GOD DAMN MOUNTAIN DEW ADVERT, it's the first thing they say in that video, where did you get Pepsi from? Did you not watch the video? Secondly that's not the whole advert and third of all, Tyler the Creator is playing a character, one of you mentioned that very little shocks you, yet this does and that's the point, he is trying to shock you, he uses these shocking and tasteless jokes as a juxtaposition to dramatic serious issues that he has seen, it's a commentary, he also was eighteen when he wrote that song which brings me on to the fourth point, ironically Tyler The Creator is in many ways the best role model any of your children could ever have. He created his own fashion line, production company at the age of eighteen, he does not do drugs, drink or smoke, he works, he is now twenty four and used his enormous wealth to buy his Mum and sister a house, who he lives with. His Mum is the biggest influence on him, he also talks about what a strong and powerful woman she is. It's easy to judge someone from they work if you don't have the context (or haven't even listened to/watched it).

Okay, first of all, this thread is 2 years old, so a zombie thread, which you have searched for and then registered on a parenting website to whine about.

Get over yourself.

FeijoaSundae Sat 21-Mar-15 19:39:10

Wow, one of the most bizarre zombie-ing of threads I think I've ever seen.

And doesn't Pepsi make Mountain Dew...? <misses point>

TheCountessofFitzdotterel Sat 21-Mar-15 19:45:28

I don't think you're the one missing the point. And yes, PepsiCo make Mountain Dew.

Nekohmah Sat 21-Mar-15 20:08:49

What does it matter if it's two years old? I'm an eighteen year old kid who found Tyler The Creator after my Dad killed himself (context), I saw this thread and just wanted to explain some stuff although I didn't know about the pepsi co aspect, so I did miss that point. All I really wanted was to show you that maybe this guy wasn't so bad, so if you heard about him again you might second think it because you condemn him and maybe in other situations also I would like to point out that non of you addressed any of my points other than the pepsi aspect (which I hold my hands up to and admit that I was wrong).

FeijoaSundae Sat 21-Mar-15 20:12:10

I'm really sorry for the loss of your Dad. If you felt this musician was a lifeline at a time like that, then it's understandable this touches a nerve for you.

I've never heard of him, but I find the song lyrics in the OP really quite offensive.

ApocalypseThen Sun 22-Mar-15 08:04:07

This is a feminist chat place, so we tend to have this odd aversion to graphic, violent descriptions of rape. I suggest a Tyler the Creator fan forum is what you're looking for. We're all too not down with the kids to have any real interest in defending this kind of thing.

HullMum Sun 22-Mar-15 12:56:52

I don't know many 18 year old's who call them selves kid. I'd moved a thousand miles from home by myself at that point. The next year I moved contents. And while I am very sad your father is no longer with us there is actually no context for which you should be defending this musician.

This man hates women and frankly my feelings are he can go fuck himself in the least convenient hole.

Rape a pregnant bitch and tell my friends I had a threesome

I fuck bitches with no permission and tend to hate shit
And proceed to sat her down when I go splatter in her chatterbox

HullMum Sun 22-Mar-15 12:57:58

*continents obviously. hmm

GibberingFlapdoodle Sun 22-Mar-15 13:23:16

Ok I can go with a zombie thread. Let's try... So your defence in short is that he is trying to make other people see the horror of this kind of thinking and so turn away from it.

How many of his listeners will hear that message in there? The artificiality of rap performance doesn't give much leeway to express sarcasm, nor is there any sarcasm in the words. There is nothing in those words that denies or negates them.

How is it differentiated from the rest of the misogynistic rap crap which genuinely uses the very same words to create, perpetrate, and enable glorification of rape, mutilation, torture and murder?

You presumably think that the circumstances of his life negate the words. How many of his young listeners actually a) know or care about his life anyway or b) would see the negation message there?

Do you also not see the irony of complaining to women who will have a very emotional response to the actual words because you have an emotional response to theirs?

It rarely works to fight fire with fire. All you get is a bigger fire. Feminism is about trying to find a better way.

Rappers and rape: the incredible sound and hateful lyrics of Odd Future

The writer says "Like a lot of people, I'm horrified and hypnotised at the same time"

Oddly I'm just horrified. I appreciate rap culture is not speaking to me but still horrified.

PilchardPrincess Sun 22-Mar-15 16:19:05

I suppose you'd have to listen to it to see if there was anything hypnotic (if the style of music were at all your cup of tea).

I can get on board with people producing output that has merit in one respect and not in another. I guess all we can do is to make a choice as to which outweighs the other.

PS I am also not down with the kids grin and wouldn't have those lyrics in the house. This is the other problem though - if the music is good, the albums are good, most people won't be tuning in or hearing the odd really awful one. My children aged 5 and 7 would sing along with that merrily having no idea what they were saying, for eg.

PuffinsAreFictitious Sun 22-Mar-15 18:48:06

Sorry your father died.

Doesn't stop this piece of music being violently misogynist, or PepsiCo any less wrong for using it. A lot of rap is violently misogynist, and the thought that damaged, angry young men like you are somehow "finding yourselves" through it, is frankly terrifying.

FeijoaSundae Mon 23-Mar-15 04:32:04

And the thought that you are so outraged by our dislike of this music, that you created a persona on Mumsnet to defend this man, is also terrifying.

And then you came back and hassled us for not responding to the points you raised.

I wonder, now, if you will return to this thread.

StillLostAtTheStation Mon 23-Mar-15 13:49:12

While we're on the subject of misogynistic rappers this in its way is just as bad.

Tyler might genuinely have been trying to play a part and subvert the norm or he might just be an attention seeking boy shouting things he knows will upset people without necessarily holding those views personally.

West on the other hand is a grown up married man with children and this seems to be his opinion.
I can't get my head round the idea of anyone thinking a fashion faux pas is equivalent to bringing a new unplanned life into being.

Oh and I'm sure I read that West will be a headline act at that most right on of right on festivals, Glastonbury this year.
