I am watching this film and it has struck me how powerful the friendship between Agnes and Marion is portrayed. Its a friendship I haven't seen in many TV shows lately, especially those watched by dd who is 11. She watches the tween shows on the Disney channel where female friendship is portrayed as slightly bitchy and competitive.
Any suggestions for shows that would interest dd that show positive female friendships?

Rizzoli and Isles. It's a cop show so it might be a bit gruesome for an 11 year old but basically it's about a cop and a medical examiner who are best friends. I agree with you about female friendships in programmes - it is extremely rare to see a relaxed, genuine-seeming friendship that doesn't involve an undercurrent of bitchiness. R and I is good because they're very different people and they can be quite rude and mean to one another but it's all meant in good fun - it's a loving, banter-filled relationship between two strong women.
