Nancy, the organisations that published the call today already presented their evidence to the Leveson enquiry back in January.
I believe they may have issued this today in conjunction with International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women and because now that Leveson has reported, it's now up to the Government to decide what measures (if any) to put in place as a result.
I heard William Hague speaking on the radio earlier today and depressingly (but not surprising,) he was suggesting that he favoured a very "light tough" approach - a further "voluntary code of practice" for papers. Ho hum. They could have saved a fortune having the enquiry, leading folks up the garden path thinking something might be done, if they'd just come out and say, "You know, we don't actually care. Just suck it up."
