Feminist theory section

Its a bit quiet non existent. I know there's lots of posters here who have something to contribute to feminist theory. Any reason that its quiet? I love the way this chat area is working out but I also think feminist theory is important... Would be good to get a balance and make this an all round board. I'm not experienced in feminist theory, otherwise I would start a thread.

I am really busy at the moment but will probably get round to starting a thread when I get time.

I think a lot of the people who are well versed in theory are gone - haven't seen them about anyway, and it wouldn't be surprising.
I hope they come back.

I think some have been put off posting because of all the shit that went down. I don't really want to post anything because I don't want people to read and post and discuss stuff on fb behind everyone's back. It's altogether too weird.

Have gone elsewhere for feminist chat and it is altogether less odd.

I think the FB fiasco is over isn't it?
The horrendous carry on seems to have ended very badly, some may never come back, only going by something Hully was saying in chat though. I didn't see the end of the last thread. I hid it! soon after it seems it went poof.

Fair enough, seems like a myriad of reasons. Shame, hope there are some posts soon. I know the fb thing is a major issue for some, but that was a minority involvement, surely.

that seems to go on in every section though Yellow.
Though I see what you mean.

It's still a little too bruised to swing in with gusto, atm.

There's certainly plenty of people who really wanted to post in feminism but felt they couldn't up to now, maybe they'll swing by.

It will pick up I'm sure when the dust settles a bit.

It did go poof... Anyway, let's forget fb rubbish and try to make this board something to be proud of, for that we need feminist theory too.

Hope so. I will post more but I don't think everyone is interested in capital and where I have posted more theory people run off Confused feel quite unloved Grin

oh don't Mini

I will be very interested to hear Marxist feminists viewpoints.

I think if you post it in feminist theory, you'll get a receptive audience, hopefully. Chat is more musing by the looks of things which is great and what was missing but the intention was never to replace theory with musings... Just to have them both as far as I am aware. I have actually learned a lot from people posting feminist theory on here and now that there is space for both, I think people may find theory less threatening or they may feel they have a choice to participate in it or not.

Fab, Thanks electic, off to look at the guardian, maybe that might be a good place to start, I'll have a read. It always helps to have something to link to so everyone can have a starting point. Thank you Pardy Smile

Marxist analysis and critique of capitalism is definitely making a comeback, I have just been reading David Harvey on the death of neo-liberalism
www.counterpunch.org/2009/03/13/is-this-really-the-end-of-neoliberalism/ and reading about Barclays and the fact that Governments are selling out our future to prop up a desperately dead duck.

I would love to know more about fem theory. Could we maybe choose a topic or type of fem then discuss the various merits etc?

There was a gear thread on here ages ago about separatism.

Hi Wickety, never got time to post on your thread. Have read some of it though. Girls present very differently to boys and it's quite difficult to get a dx as an adult. Hope you feel better soon.

To me it feels slightly odd having a separate section for theory. Just as it would be odd if there were a similar division between the politics board and a "political theory" board.

It would feel rather grandiose and exclusionary to make a choice to post in theory rather than in the general feminism section. It seems like just an unfortunate division created by the unwelcoming former tone of the FWR board, which is now hopefully over.

I think it's just that a lot of posters are still a wee bit sore from all the earlier stuff.

I've made more of an effort this week to try and pick up on some of the really horrible AIBU threads although I suspect that all it will do is earn me a kicking.

The whole FWR fight showed me that we were so caught up if who was a better feminist, that I lost sight of the everyday crap that perpetuates all the shit that women endure.

I am trying not to be confrontational but it's ain't working. Would love to see the theory section take off and get more posters over here.

Sorry, my penultimate sentence sounds negative when I read it back, in a way that I didn't intend. I was just pondering a reason why the theory section might stay quiet.
